That was the most heartbreaking moment next to the Ozdust ball scene for me. I relate so much to that sentiment as someone who was an ugly duckling growing up. The moment people started finding me beautiful was so overwhelming after years of being repeatedly told how ugly and disgusting I was. I’ve also had many Ozdust ball moments throughout my life where I was made a spectacle for awful people when I thought they were being genuine. Elphaba is the perfect representation of many groups of people who are othered by society at large. Queer people, fat people, neurodivergent people, POC, etc all know what it’s like to be Elphaba.

4:04 No One Mourns the Wicked is all about Glinda admitting she was the wicked one all along, she realizes her choices will result in her dying alone. Also when she riffs “ah” it’s a hidden tribute to Elphaba’s battle cry in defying gravity. It’s also said that the higher Glinda sings, the more she’s lying. You can see the disgust on her face when she burns the effigy of Elphaba, she’s sick that people were waiting for the day she died and mourns her friend in secret.

words……This movie broke me…1000/10! WICKED WAS ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE IN EVERY SINGLE WAY!! IT WAS PERFECT!! I FREAKING LOVED IT TO DEATH!!! ALL OF THE SONGS, THE CHOREOGRAPHY, AND THE SINGING WERE FANTASTIC, THE SETS AND THE COSTUMES WERE AMAZING, AND THE ACTING WAS PHENOMENAL! I cried like 4 times watching it! I teared up during Wizard and I, I cried when Glinda and Elphaba danced, and oh my lord! Defying Gravity!! I was sobbing! I was hugging my friend and crying my eyes out with her!! When she started flying and when sang that final note…… got so many chills, my soul left my body. It was an life- changing experience!!! My theater was packed!! I laughed, I cried, just a roller coaster of emotions!! Wicked better win some Oscars. This is already me of my favorite movies that I've seen in my life! I can not wait for part 2!!! I've always just found it's best to view 'Wizard of Oz' and 'Wicked' as two seperate stories rather than one as the backstory to the other - if you compare them side by side to each other you notice where the stories don't add up and that kind of ruins the experience of 'Wicked'. Just view them as two seperate stories with some similarities and nothing gets taken away from your viewing experience.

_Wicked_ and the book are even AUs of each other, let alone when you bring in the 1939 movie and the other Oz movies and the Oz books. None of them match, and that's cool. You're totally right.

In an interview with Jon Chu, the director, and I’m paraphrasing here, said that the original WOZ film was likely a dream, where Wicked is how it would have played out if it were a real-life experience. I love them both equally and for me, Wicked reframes the WOZ as seen through the eyes of a (literal) child, who believes whatever people tell her, misunderstands peoples intentions and is easily manipulated by the Ozian’s propaganda. 😊

I loved seeing wicked in theaters. I love the songs, I loved the Acting. I Love the costumes. The actress who played Nessa is the first Person to be Wheelchair bound. I loved seeing Kristen and Idina on the theater screen. I’ve never seen the musical but I have read the plot and I know what happens. There are so many Nods to Fiyero becoming a Certain Character. Also I like how the Silver shoes are incorporated into the story, cause in the Original Book the Slippers were silver. Also I can Obviously tell that the man in the beginning is Jeff Goldblum. All the actors and Actresses did an amazing Job. 1:52 They Did Elphaba dirty in that poster. Also Glinda slays her pink Ballgown. 3:19 Yes. 50:14 I lost my mind in the theater. the worst part is that I couldn’t sing along. Also The second movie is for sure gonna destroy me.

There was this deleted scene where Galinda asked Elphie about the time where Elphie and Fiyero saved the lion cub asking her why she chooses Fiyero instead of her, that she could've helped her instead of him. Elphie says sorry and she promised Galinda that she would never leave her behind making that scene where Elphie asking her to come with her in defying gravity more impactful because Elphie made a promise to her only best friend. It was sad that they did not include that scene in the movie because altho it was 2 hours long, for it's too short for a movie of that caliber.

No matter which portrayal is your favourite, 2024 a big year for Oz. The long awaited release of the movie of 'Wicked' over 21 years since the stage show started. Plus there's the tour and the (sadly limited - though that was planned not as a result of the ticket sales) run on Broadway revival of 'The Wiz' (nine years after the 2015 live filmed performance with Queen Latifa as 'The Wiz' - and just four years before the 40th anniversary of the 70s movie 'The Wiz'), and of course it's the 85th anniversary of the classic iconic movie 'The Wizard of Oz'.

I love your videos. I love this movie and can’t wait for part 2 later this year, but I know, like everyone else, I will be crying more than I did in this movie. Also, at 8:35, did you notice that underneath the wizard were animals? I don’t know if you caught it or if anyone put it in the comments here, but that means that all of what the animals created or help to create were basically shut out and not taught to everyone. So, everyone thinks that the wizard did all of it, but he didn’t.

Everything was non-CGI wherever possible! I set a high bar of demands (having loved the books and stage production), plus a fan of original cast. But this exceeded all my hopes. Bring Kleenex to cry (with joy). They transformed it all the source material into the 2020s, yet timeless for all future generations. And now a perfect metaphor for a nation of hate, fear, fake manipulative conspiracies, propaganda, mediocrity, and autocracy with the Wizard a con artist (i.e., Trump). Yes it's Peter Dinklage's goat voice. Yes, it's one gigantic sets with tons of water in an amalgam of historical architectural styles. He doesn't fall asleep because he becomes the scarecrow. This was a product of genius in choreograph, design, costumes, orchestration (85 piece orchestra). Yet contains respectful tributes to everybody and everything. Stunned by Ariana's acting chops I wasn't expecting. Best movie of the Century so far!
