Draco’s lack of redemption arc is so frustrating, even in the books. I remember being absolutely certain that Draco was going to turn after reading HBP and then he just….doesn’t. One moment, he’s carefully not revealing Harry at the Manor, but then he’s attacking Harry in the Room of Requirement. Even in the final moments of the battle, he’s just doing what it takes to survive. The only Malory who truly turns on Voldemort is Narcissa. I love that moment for her, but not getting one for Draco was the biggest letdown of the series.

not everyone has to turn into a good person and draco is the proof of that. he is a pure slytherin and only thinks of himself in the end
@elinama7061 Жыл бұрын
@@ilbwfy1550 I think it's fairly realistic too, like his family fell out with the Death Eaters, but that doesn't mean he's gunna turn into a goody two shoes after that. Sometimes people don't like the group they're in and distance themself. But it doesn't mean they want to be good people. They do whatever they can to survive. Def felt like staying on Voldemort's side any longer would've gotten the whole family killed so naturally they would aid his enemy subtly.

58:25 Dylan... Hermione made everyone sign that parchment because she secretly cursed it. This isn’t shown in the movies, but Hermione is cutthroat about these things in the books. When Marietta Edgecombe (Cho’s best friend, and a member of Dumbledore’s Army) told Umbridge about the group, big purple blemishes appeared on her forehead, spelling out the word “sneak”. She cut her hair so her bangs would cover the word because no one could cure them. In the book, Harry and Cho broke up because Cho hated Hermione, but of course Harry took Hermione’s side.

The beauty of the ambiguity of Sirius falling through the mirror is intentional. Too often people are separated from their loved ones without ever really knowing if they're still out there alive or dead, hoping against hope for someone to come home that never will. It becomes a massive point in the books where people try to convince harry that sirius is gone but he is in denial and won't accept it.

@@Nikstar112 no. Neville could have been saved by the same kind of love - his parents surely would have done the same. Voldemort made Harry the chosen one by picking the Potters instead of the Longbottoms. The books and background stories are pretty clear about that. Voldemort thought that Harry being a half-blood was more likely to be his match and he "marked him as his equal".
@raphael_santiago2 жыл бұрын
While I realise that Dumbledore said that and Harry believes it, I disagree. The reason Lily's sacrifice saved Harry is because she was going to be spared (because Snape asked Voldemort to spare her) but _chose_ to die to save him. With Neville, Voldemort would've had no reason to intend to spare his mother. There would be nothing to sacrifice. She would be dying anyway. Actually, I'd imagine Voldemort would kill her before trying to kill Neville anyway (therefore depriving her of the chance to sacrifice herself in the first place).
@aureliaavalon2 жыл бұрын
@@raphael_santiago Wait. You got a point. Those very few seconds of not killing Lily immediately resulted in Voldemort giving Lily a chance to inflict the curse. This is so well explained on the books, Draco’s arc in the last movie is shit compared to the books
@faithjolley60343 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The thing that makes Draco a complex character is that he's essentially trapped in this environment with no real way out. His parents have shoved him into their cult, and he never really had a choice. His choice is "Leave and die or stay and be miserable," and that's not a real choice. Not to mention that if he obviously makes a choice and helps Harry, there's a good chance that Draco would be killed, even after Voldemort died. Even after Voldemort died, he still had supporters, even if they were supporters of just his pure-blood ideals. Not only this, but Draco had just begun to question his father and those ideals that he was raised with. The entire foundation of his reality was slowly crumbling as he learned that the things he was taught since birth are actually not good for him and not good for others. This is totally something that happens to people who break away from abusive communities for whatever reason: your entire reality is built on lies. When you've been raised a certain way from birth, that is now the way you see the world. So when you're in the beginning of that process, questioning and starting to see the truth, it's really hard to make definitive choices about anything, because your brain is so used to doing things one way, but that way is also something that you're actively questioning- you don't know if your reality is real or if you've been lied to and brainwashed. But those questions and showing that hesitation is dangerous, and it was especially dangerous for Draco in that moment. I don't blame any character for prioritizing self-preservation over heroic selflessness. I'm pretty tired of the 'selfless is heroic' narrative. I don't think Draco's arc was supposed to end at the same time Harry's ended. I think Draco is still in the beginning of it by the end of the Deathly Hallows. There's a lot that Draco has to do in order to even start working on being a better person, and that wasn't going to happen on Harry's timeline.

tbh tho the films should be able to stand up on their own. the twilight films managed it. i don't even like twilight (like, i gave up before the end of those films), but at least the people in charge of them knew to include all of the important information. if you don't understand what you need to from just the films, the creators failed. that's not to say the series is bad--despite jkr, i like the potter films and enjoy the world built in the films and books--but not everyone CAN read the books (illiterate, attention issues, money, don't enjoy reading, no time because they got other things to do) so including what the audience needs to know for the plot should be the most important thing, and it just wasn't. it's weird how lax everyone is on the potter series when any other series pulling that would get dragged through the mud by its hair and absolutely roasted.
@adude84943 жыл бұрын
@@camila-qx8cu To make a horcrux (item that contains part of your soul, basically making you immortal), you need to kill another person. Every time you make a new horcrux, part of your soul is ripped apart and shoved into that item. So Voldemort split his soul into 8 pieces, including the part in his own body. He ordered Draco to kill Dumbledore because, 1) He wanted to punish Draco’s father by using his son 2) Dumbledore knew about his horcruxes And lastly, most people don’t use the death spell because it’s a one way trip to Azkaban. Forever. So, you can imagine people aren’t keen on using it all the time.

@Ava Smith i get your point and while i was reading the books i thought the same for a while, until i saw that although the story is written in the third person is always from harry’s perspective, so we just see ginny’s growth when harry sees it which he only does when she starts to act normal around him, that’s why it feels like it’s all of a sudden but actually it was just her being herself around him and letting go of her fears and all that
@ariannedigs3 жыл бұрын
@Ava Smith i actually i loved hinny and my favorite book in the series would always be the half-blood prince but i really see where youre coming from. it would be much better to see who ginny really is after what happened to her from the chamber of secrets so the readers could get an understanding of what led to harry and ginny ending up together.
@gi20Moon3 жыл бұрын
@@imsaracaroline I agree with your point of view... Also the fact that normally when you hit puberty you are definitely not the same little girl. I think that every character changes (obviously) but it is easier to see how the golden trio changes because as you said we see mainly Harry's perspective, it is after he becomes interested in her that he sees how she changed and has a new perspective of her, which I think it is really realistic, sometimes it happens that you see a person and suddenly you are like: When did she/he became so attractive? Or when did she/he did grow up? She/he has matured! Sometimes we don't pay attention to others and we don't see the process of change... Sorry I wrote a gigantic comment LOL
