So interesting lore fact about why Solas is the only one wearing that silly hat at the ball. First of all the hat is suppose to have metal part coming down over his nose but it clips sadly. there's a mod that fixes it. Anyways, that hat is called "Helm of the Drasca". Centuries ago the Drasca were rebels and warriors from ancient Anderfells that were hunted by the Imperium and who led rebellion against Orlesian rule. Basically Solas prepared that hat on his own, clearly dyed it red so it matches the uniform and smuggled that hat in and parades with it at the ball at Orlais, but it's a symbol of resistance against them, and no one at the ball probably even realizes it since it's ancient history lol 🤣 it's like his personal joke, I love him for it he's so smug lol!

Don't blame the Chantry for the hate against the Elves, Humans had enslaved the Elves centuries before Andraste let alone the Chantry, the hate existed long before the Chantry and wouldn't get any better without it. You can't really expect people of faith to just abandon their faith and their Church because someone of a different religion doesn't like it. Also there's a good book, I think it's Masked Empire, that explores the relationship between Celene, Gaspard, and Briala. No spoilers but it really muddies the water even more and makes the decision of who to side with even worse, especially for your elven inquisitor. If you talk to Gaspard during the ball he does mention that he intends to retake Ferelden which is why I as a die hard dog lord sided against him, but there was some stuff in the book that made me almost side against Celene. With the added background of the book its up there with Mages or Templars from DA2 and the new King of Orzammar choice from Origins in it's moral complexity. I absolutely recommend reading it when you get the chance.

The Chantry does encourage treating Elves as lesser though, same with Dwarves, and Qunari. And Maker help you if you're a human who worships a different faith.

@Shadowpack95 I'm not saying it doesn't but the idea that it's purely because of the chantry is just false, there would be hatred towards them anyways because there was hatred towards them before hand arguably the hatred against elves was worse before since Andraste was the one who helped free all the southern elves from slavery. The Chantry is inspired by the medieval Catholic Church, the first truly international arbitration organisation, the Church was the UN of the middle ages, and like the UN there were a lot of problems but it would have been worse without it, the same is true of the Chantry.

@@Kevc00 The Chantry supported Orlais in its conquering of Southern Thedas, which included Ferelden, Andraste's Homeland. Orlais wanted to conquer The Dales, the Chantry then called for a Crusade drawing religious zealots from all over who wanted to kill Elves. Quite literally 90% of the Problems Thedas faces in the Dragon Age is a result of the Chantry

@Shadowpack95 the war in the dales started because the Dalish attacked the Orlesians, they fucked around and found out, magic is a problem and the chantry were 100% justified in their control of it's practice, the chantry helped mediate dozens of wars throughout the history of Thedas. So 90% of problems, like Tevinter, the Qunari, the Darkspawn, were all the Chantry's fault? The Chantry were absolutely justified in supporting the invasion of the Dales, they stopped the Qunari from conquering Thedas, they pacified Tevinter, have always supported the Grey Wardens and opposed any government who refused to support them including condemning Ferelden for exiling them. So helping to stop Thedas from being conquered over 8 times is bad? Also the Chantry was split on Orlesian rule of Ferelden and many opposed if, just as happened in numerous wars in Europe. There are only 2 organisations that unite Thedas, the Grey Wardens and the Chantry, people don't really care about the wardens in peace time so the only thing anyone in Ferelden has in common with an Orlesian is their faith and just as in Europe the common faith was the only thing that ever restrained them.

Really enjoying your play through and how invested you are in characters and decision making. Honestly amazed at your talent for talking to an audience who won’t be there until later while somehow making it feel like we are as you are recording. While trying to avoid even hinting at anything to come, I also feel quite intense empathy for characters and you may want to have some irl support on hand for Into The Abyss.

And if it's cut low in the front we must put your hair up to show off that lovely neck."_ If you take a look at Morrigan's outfit, she took Leliana's advice to the T.

First time playing through this is a confusing and stressful with the timer/court approval, but it gets easier when you know it. Yes, the other option has the Duchess apprehended without the battle but both ways save the Empress.

"Where is Morrigan?" - You literally checked every single black head on the map there at the end, except for Morrigan in the garden XD Halamshiral is such a fun experience (especially when playing it for the first time) and a nice break from the usual gameplay. I believe there are 5 different possible outcomes for Wicked Eyes, Wicked Hearts. I found it funny how vehemently you were for erasing the chantry completely, only to then agree with Cassandra's vision for it ;) Cassandra wants to reform the chantry, Leliana wants a revolution and tear it down completely first. Both have arguments for and against. Not an easy decision. There might be a third option as well...

congrats on getting through the quest. it was chaotic hehe. it' can be very stressful with all the timings and all the dealings going on, and having to find lot of secret sections and unlock all halla doors, which is hard of first try so you did good considering! :) even on replays it's a mess lol. it gets easier on replayes when you see all options and have a clearer picture of everything going on. the more secrets you find the more dialogue options you get at the end. I really wonder how your opinion on this quest and your final decision will change after you read Masked Empire book. it covers a lot of Briala and Celene history and introduces epic fan fave character. My opinion of this quest changed a lot after reading it. definitely let us know when you do :)

I'm curious what Justinia did or said that made you have that impression. I haven’t read the book Asunder. From the codexes I have read and the talks from Leliana and Cassandra Justina seemed like a supporter of the mage rebellion and sympathetic to its cause. I agree with Leliana as Divine. I think the Chantry needs to start over and drastically change, but as she says, people need an example to follow, so that’s why the Chantry can’t just disappear. (I'm not defending the Chantry; I am not a fan of it either, but it does good things, too. Small-scale stuff. Just like with Christianity in real life, things get messy and complicated and harmful when religion becomes a huge institution.)

Justinia was a supporter only to a certain extent; do remember she threatened an Exalted March against Kirkwall in DA2 because The Templars claimed the mages were rebelling well before Anders had his New Year celebration. Justinia was ruthless and pragmatic, she took Leliana, a hero and penitent bard and turned her back into a cold-hearted spy and assassin.

Iquisition soldiers should ask increase to their hazard pay. Iquisitor Lavellan is ruthless. Exposing the duchess is available only with high approval. I can see how this oprtion can be misleading. I like this quest and The Landsmeet. The Landsmeet opens up with all side quests: gatherind allies among nobles, collecting evidence against Loghain, doing stuff for antivan crows and thieves. Wicked eyes and wicked hearts is compact. Both are complex packed with content.

Hey Shan, great to see you back! How was the Holiday season for you? (If you celebrate). Glad you're doing better :) - This mission is one of the best in the game but it stresses me out so much. I can't remember the first time I did it, but I do remember what I felt...PANIC lol! Even using a walkthrough it would stress me out! - Gutted someone spoiled Morrigan returning in this game for you. I'm sure you didn't know when she would turn up, but still. It would have been double the shock! Her conversations are great, I like her a lot more in this game than Origins. Incase you don't remember it, when you asked Vivienne about certain events at the palace, she said something like "Look for Celenes PET apostate" in a really snarky tone...An interesting thing to remember for the future, possible HILARIOUS interactions loom? - The dance is so cute, and Solas is adorable with it. Never seen the mod before that lets all allies come to the palace, but I love it. The conversations back in skyhold are so jarring in an ordinary playthough because everyone acts like they were there. Also, I don't know if you clocked it, but during the ball Cullen was getting hit on by a group of women and a man haha. - Viviennes personal mission...she can go with you but it's a little immersion breaking if she does because when you deliver the heart she will be like "have you got it?" YES VIV YOU WERE THERE! - Just a small thing, but there is a really funny interaction between cullen and lelianna at the wartable regarding how "popular" he was at the ball. Only a small detail but I love it, keep an ear out for it :D Great video as always Shan, and incase you don't post again before the 31st...HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I did catch them hitting on Cullen! Someone even grabbed his behind! And yes, this mission was stressful and hard. I had no idea where I was going and got lost so often! I know I missed things, but making up all that court approval I’m okay with how things turned out. The dance was so cute, but the hat so awful! Great Episode ! 😀 There's a Dragon age animated movie called Dragon Age: Dawn of the seeker that goes through Cassies back story and how she came to the beliefs she has (I really enjoyed it and recommend it) You gotta hand it to Solas, he was introduced as your man servant and took it all in his stride, he can certainly not be accused of insecurity The Circle of Magi question is so complex, what I always came back to was that when the mages voted it was only passed by a slim majority to rebel. To me that says allot when you have that many mages choosing to stay in that situation over complete freedom. In an ideal world of course complete freedom is the most desirable outcome but Thedas is not an ideal world and they realize that. I still don't know what the right answer is. I totally cracked up at your facial expressions when Mother Giselle walked up to you 😄😄 Happy Holidays Shan

Freedom is the answer, one should never be told they are a blight on the world, a curse from their god and should be imprisoned for their entire life and never have the same rights as everyone else, where if they mess up slightly their punishment is either death or the utter destruction of their soul, just from something outside their control.

@@Shadowpack95 I think it's allot more complicated than that but I see your viewpoint and no doubt freedom is the ideal answer, but with great power comes great responsibility and not all are equipped to deal with that responsibility and some crave power over others. Also Mages do need training and protection from what they need to face. If someones neighbor had the ability to control their mind or make them explode in a ball of fire, or could succumb to a demons influence, I'm not sure "Just trust them" would put anyones mind at ease. Having said that though the current treatment of Mages as things stand was neither working nor acceptable that is plain to see. It's a complex issue (By design I would imagine) and I still can't see a perfect solution. But hey that's just one opinion

His dialouge changes and he's the one you ask to dance. Also curious why sera has the option to ask to dance as well, considsring your relationship with her. Glitch?
