I think I heard some "when you're an Addams" on the Godin at 8:21? I've played the Addams family book for a season as well, great show!

As a keyboard/conductor, I forget just how much work goes into the amp setups for musicals. Cool stuff!!!

Wicked was particularly involved for guitar.."dancing through life" has the most variation in one track (well, it is a 10 minute track lol). The keyboards also.. 4 kurzweils, using the original broadway patches.. hundreds of them.

I use a 6 six string banjo as well for pit work. One little trick to make it sound more banjo-y is to replace the low E and A strings with a .56mm and .41mm then tune them up an octave. You'll basically end up with nearly the same range and tonality of a 5 string banjo.

Awesome! Will try that!!

Thanks Dave! I do a ton of pit work in the San Francisco Bay Area. I'm currently using PODHD500x and hoping to upgrade to Helix next year. Your video is the only demo I've found from a pit guitarist's perspective. Thank you so much for sharing and keep killing it. Sounds great! One question: why don't you like the Helix volume pedal?

Keyboardist here that does musical work here and there; love your channel! I do a lot of programming myself on the keyboard end, but cool to check out all the 'fun' a guitarist works with as well :) Great vids man!

Joel Everett thanks Joel. There's some other videos on my channel from the show and also a video touring the pit- we had 4 kurzweil keyboards all programmed using the original broadway patches that were sent to us.

Thanks for the videos, Dave. I've just started learning Wicked for a production coming in Jun. I'm a seasoned guitar player, but I'm no pit musician yet. Looking at the charts, and man I have some work ahead of me. I'm in Syd, Australia and by the sound of your accent you may not be that far away. I'd love to discuss the musical further if you're able, please. Thx. Ted

Hi Dave, could you do an extra little video showing how you set up the acoustic mute switch on the unit. I want to do somthing similar at the end of the month for a show having just bought a Helix myself, but am not sure how to go about it. Thanks !

Karl Younger Guitar hi Karl. I run a single patch. The top 3 paths (1a, 1b, 2a) are for electric with guitar as input, output set to xlr panned hard left (so xlr left output). The bottom path (2b) is for acoustic. Input is aux input and output is xlr panned hard right (xlr right). In that path I have a volume pedal block first, a pre-amp and reverb. The volume pedal block is not assigned to the expression pedal, but rather to a foot switch. On/off simply sets the volume parameter from 0% to 100%, so in effect acting as a mute. If you can't work it out get back to me and I'll try and do a video showing how I did it.

Amazing video mate! Do you still have this setup saved, recently bought a helix and just getting my head around it. Doing a lot of pit shows too, so any chance I could download it at all? Cheers.

Hi Dave. Any chance you can upload your preset(s) to Line 6 Customstone? I'm doing the guitar part for a closed showcases and it'd spare me loads of time, if I didn't have to programme it all from scratch. Greets from DK, Frederik.

Good stuff man. Out of curiosity, does the charts you get come in standard music notation or tabs or both? Thanks for the great videos!

Play a show :) or scour the internet. They’re out there if you search hard enough. But yes it’s very difficult.
