I just wanted to drop a comment emphasising that the books do have some very disturbing content that I might not have made clear enough in the video, and that you may want to look up a content warning before picking them up. Also, don’t take my summary as fact - the book is definitely confusing, and I forgot/misremembered moments. I filmed this before the teaser trailer for the movie came out, but I guess that makes this video's upload date pretty perfect. If it's not clear from this video, I'm down for a different interpretation of the story, and I think the trailer looks intriguing.

Great video, but check your facts, Wizard of oz 1939 film Copywrite is not own by Disney, its now part of Warners Bros(brought the film from MGM studio)

@@sandstorm200 Oh, sorry. What I meant when I said that is that Disney is the reason the film is still under copyright (thanks to all the copyright extensions they've managed to put into effect in their determination to keep Mickey Mouse), not that they owned the copyright to it. Probably could've been a bit clearer with how I worded it. Glad you enjoyed the video

I’m excited to watch this. I’ve read wicked many times and each time I notice new things. I think the musical does a good job of making it family friendly and still keeping it true to its source. Excited to see what the film implements from the book. The wizard is a true villian in the novel.

Absolutely. Much worse in the book

Wicked came back to Denver for a month so I saw it as it has been five years since I last watched the musical. It’s my favorite musical and I’ve seen it so many times. It’s what got me into musicals. I knew and heard about the book. I’ve never read it. Part of it is I discovered wicked in junior high and heard it’s not family friendly like the musical and very graphic. I’ve gone back to see the differences and spoilers for the book. I don’t know if I want to give it a try at all even though I know the book is entirely different and to think of it like that. But it was good to hear commentary and a balanced review.

@@sarapinkandpurple I’m glad you enjoyed. Wicked was my first show too.

You made a great point about nessarose in the musical and how problematic her story is. I am curious if they will do the same in the movie or different with Nessa.
@TheSoundOfGeorgiaАй бұрын
@@sarapinkandpurple I’m not sure. As far as I know the actress is disabled herself, and regardless of what they do with her story, that means a great deal to me.

The book is very grimdark and full of complicated political machinations. The musical is very simplistic and designed to make you feel good basically. The one sequel about the cowardly lion is actually my favorite of the series because I like his character the most out of all the protagonists.

Interesting. That was actually the one I found the most tedious. (Though I LOVE that he dedicated it to Maurice Sendak)

Only thing is Morrible in the book definetley was involved with the wizard! Behind the scenes for sure but she tried to recruit them for the wizards “sector service”

True. But, yeah not nearly as overtly as in the show

I’d like to hear your opinions after you watch the trailer for the Musical movie (and your thoughts on splitting it into 2 separate movies etc!) Great overview of who will enjoy the books, why the sequels were written, and preparing the audience for that to be a totally different story too! Personally, I like both the books and the musical, but only on the idea that they really aren’t the same story!

I did a pinned comment - since I filmed this before I saw the trailer. I'm open to a new telling of the story, and it looks interesting. But yeah, I might make a separate video it anyway Glad you liked this.
