As a massive Wicked fan, I was STOKED when this trailer dropped. Like, kicking my legs screaming. I can’t wait to see what parts they have taken from the musical and put in the movie!!! Edit: and yes, I saw it on Broadway, it was PHENOMENAL!! I haven’t even *seen* this version of the trailer! Gave me even more chills and resulted in more nerdy freaking out hahaha

Loved the homages to the original film here. You can hear the original wicked witch’s theme from the wizard of oz, and the clip of the lion cub peaking out of the basket is reminiscent of Toto doing the same on the back of Ms. Gulch’s bicycle!

"Wicked" is gay culture because "Wizard of Oz" is gay culture, you absolutely have an argument there. It's part of US gay history that the film was beloved by the queer community because of Dorothy's acceptance and love of her "queer" group of friends including the Cowardly Lion who was a not-so-subtle "sissy" stereotype. So much so that calling yourself a "Friend of Dorothy" became a covert way to tell others in the know that you were queer. Judy Garland who played Dorothy was extraordinarily accepting of her gay fans for the time, and she was regarded as a "gay icon". Also the author of the book "Wicked" is not only gay, but he and his husband were one of the first couples to be married in Massachusetts, the first US state to legalize gay marriage.
@oldemanA17 күн бұрын
He wasn't a "sissy", he was a "dandy lion" which is a double entendre...dandelion being the flower, and "dandy" being the early 20th century's "polite" term for someone perceived to be homosexual. When researching, you have drill passed the MOST common meaning which is someone overly concerned with their clothing/dress.

Wicked opened on Broadway on Halloween, October 31, 2003. And Idina Menzel opened the show in the West End a little over a year later. It is still running; is still selling out every night. And is currently the 3rd longest running Broadway Musical… ever! And would that you were not a 9 hour flight away from Los Angeles; a BIG OLD GAY meet up and Screening Party would 1000% be on my “Must Do!” List. Because you two Gays would be pee in your pants HYSTERICAL!!! 🌈🦄🤣🦄🌈 But trust! Not only for all the reasons you mentioned… AND my Anglophile Crush Jonathan Bailey! 😍🔥🇬🇧🤤🇬🇧🔥😍 As it opens here on Thanksgiving Day. After stuffing myself with Turkey & Stuffing. I will be grabbing a slice of Pumpkin Pie on my way out the door to see it! 🖤💚🖤💚🖤

there are 3 reasons... #4 Ariana Grande; kinda odd that #5 ins't just: it is a musical

2:25 I vividly remember that the tic-k-tok dragon moved again before and after the intermission; the stage is made to resemble the clock of the time dragon from the Wicked novel that inspired the play; in the novel it travels the land, holds mechanical puppets, and shows prophetic scenes; it depicts Elphaba's birth and seemingly tries to tell her about the identity of her true father; in the play we, the audience, basically see all the events play out in the clock; so basically the actors play puppets who portray characters if you will; I always found this more true to the montage of Elphaba's upbringing; especially how different characters enter and leave the stage through doors in the back reminds me of the puppet play of the Munich town hall and similar displays. Like the town hall of Goslar, house Schmieding in Minden or the pied piper display in Hameln.

I was so excited when they announced Wicked was getting made into a movie, but then disappointed that it's being split into two parts, and completely devastated that they cast Arianna Grande. I just find her so unbearably insufferable that I now don't plan on paying to see it it in theaters. I'll eventually watch when it's on streaming, so I can mute it whenever she speaks.

I will never forget my first experience of seeing the musical and seeing all the beautiful sets and the costume designs, as well as the amazing talented cast. And I had just recently saw it again this past Christmas as I was introducing it to a family friend, so I am so hyped to see this iconic story come to the screen! And ironically the first musical I ever performed was the Wizard of Oz where I played Professor Marvel and the Wizard. 🫧🧹🩷💚
