Leaving King Triton off the list seems like an oversight. I’d put him slightly below the neutral-toxic line, as his actions are abusive but he ultimately regrets them and supports her choices.

I agree because as much as Triton loves his daughters he isn’t really a good father he’s neglectful and easily angered, and he maliciously destroyed his youngest daughters prized collection and though he looked sorry after the fact he didn’t actually apologize for what he did. If he had explained the reasons behind his fear of the surface world than Ariel would have understood better, much like other parents on this list their biggest issues stem from poor communication on both ends, because Ariel also could have talked to him about what was going on and why she felt so trapped.

I’d also say Ariel and Melody’s relationship should be mentioned. However, that was in a direct-to-DVD sequel, so I’m not too upset they left that out.

Also leaving out Goofy's relationship with his son Max and everyone of the Madrigal parents from Encanto. If I knew where to put the former, it would be like somewhere in The Grey Area. Goofy has risked his life to help Max with his troubles; even if Max is making this relationship a bit rocky. Still you could see the reason why Goofy truly loves his son like a real parent. Encanto would be in three different sections. With Mirabel's parents they deserve to be in The Healthy Section; but not quite at the highest, since we don't see much of their relationship with the two elder daughters. We mainly focused more on Julieta and Agustín's view of their daughter Mirabel, and I must say it's pretty wholesome. They don't question why Mira doesn't want to have powers and they tried everything to cheer her up. But the best thing about those two is when the whole Bruno situation starts to bring chaos, we see them stand up for their daughter(especially in the case of Agustín). And when Casita started to collapse, we see Julieta try to reach out and protect Mira from danger. And that's what I call good parenting. Pepa and Félix's relationship with their children would be sort of in The Grey Area. Yes, we see them interact during Antonio's coming of age ceremony. And yes, we know Félix is trying to balance out his wife. But if there was more focus on their family, we wouldn't have shown Abuela's advantage on those events. Speaking of which, Abuela Alma's relationship with her children, in-laws and grandchildren can be considered toxic. I mean, why did she think that not talking about Bruno would be considered a good idea? She didn't stand up to him the same way Mirabel's parents did. And speaking of her relationship with Mira, who could've thought that during the scene where Alma blames everything on her granddaughter would be something to learn about. Even if all is forgiven, her advantage on the family caused dysfunctionality.

Not to mention, when Tiana's costume was messed up, Lottie gave her a dress to wear and the dress looks amazing on her. Lottie said she has the perfect dress for her and with that execution, tells us how much she truly does value Tiana. Especially when she pays Tiana for her bineighs for the costume ball. Which also helped Tiana earn more money for her restaurant.

As bad as Chicken Little and Buck Clucks relationship is, it is definitely not worse then Rapunzel and Mother Gothel as there was no redemption of that relationship at the end unlike Chicken Little and Buck Cluck.

Eeeh I agree that on a technical level Gothel is more toxic, but Buck is more jarring because we're supposed to want him and Chicken Little to repair things when in reality, I want Chicken little to go no contact the second he turns 18. Meanwhile, the expectation for Rapunzel to get away was always the main goal. Aside from that, Buck's change didn't feel genuine. Due to bad writing, he made an abrupt 180. It evoked less genuine healing and more the fact that abusers consistently apologize while not making any meaningful change. Gothel is 100% the worse person, but I don't think Buck should get any points for the ending.

Mulan did not actually express an aversion to their customs or a want for something else; she tried to fit in, and just wasn't good at it, and her parents were very understanding of that with the talk her father had with her after she failed with the match maker.

I think people forget this. Mulan wasn’t some badass bloodthirsty tomboy warrior. She was nervous about the whole matchmaking thing, but she was mostly nervous about messing it up (which she did, through her clumsiness). She was actually pleased with the makeover.

Mulan grabbed the cup back because of the cricket and the matchmaker set herself on fire because the cricket was in her dress. It is also a really good point that Mulan's dad talked to her after the matchmaker, pointing out that one blossom was a late bloomer and proclaiming that he believes it'll be the most beautiful of all. The important thing is that he accepted her BEFORE she went to war vs Moana's dad didn't take her seriously or accept her as she was until after she saved everyone. Mulan didn't have to "prove herself" to "earn" her father's support.

And this was just before WB would talk about what he thought would be a controversial choice, but I think THIS might just be an even more controversial take that is made to make Simba sound a lot worse than he actually is as if he were Sonic from the 2000s Archie Comics tricking (maybe even in a way that is intentionally GASLIGHTING) his own friends into thinking that he was dead after #135 (I know Sally Acorn took it the wrong way with an “I HATE YOU NOW, SONIC, BECAUSE YOU NEVER WANTED TO BE MY FUTURE HUSBAND!!!!!!!!!” slap (which has thankfully been regretted in #187 with the magic of Ian Flynn and his team of Archie Sonic fixers as of 2006-2016/IDW Sonic makers from 2018-future), but still!!!!! While he was right to think that could have taken his friends with him to end this war with Dr. Eggman!!!!! THAT, my friends, is something that not even Simba (well, at least in the 1994 version) would go as far as to do because I think Coco Beans really said it all best about his (or her) defense of Simba.

I’d have to disagree on the 1 with the lion king. Simba likely wouldn’t have been old enough to comprehend how Sarabi would’ve felt losing him. Plus he went into exile in the 1st place, because he was made to believe he was responsible for his father’s death (plus the hyenas or Scar would’ve likely killed him had he returned thus ruining the whole point of that argument). I also agree with some people here that “mother” Gothel was worse than Buck Cluck, cause at least Cluck attempted to mend the relationship in the end.

Taking Tangled the series into consideration Mother Gothal is much worse as she abandoned her own biological daughter Cassandra when she found Rapunzel. Also What about Zira, Nuka, Vitani, and Kovu? Zira ia stright up cruel to all three. Starving Nuka and the rest of the pride for Vitani and Kovu, scaring Kovu after he did nothing to help them kill Simba, then threatening to kill Vitani when she joined Simba.

I think most of the gray spots on this list are actually some of the best written characters overall. Especially John Silver, that has to be the most underrated Disney character ever. Also I wanna dispute the King Stefan rating due to the fact that he in fact had a whole damn argument with King Hubert that almost ended their friendship over whether Aurora and Philip should marry right away.

Where would the Encanto parents fit into this list? I feel that Julieta and Augustin would probably be in the Healthy Category as well as Pepa and Felix. They seem to care about their children. Their only flaw seems to be that they let Abuelita Alma use their children's gifts, which leads us to Alma. I think she would be in the Grey Area. She does exploit her children and grandchildren's gifts, but it's not for personal gain, but to help their community. Also, because Mirabel doesn't have a gift, she doesn't seem to treat her like a member of the family, but the good news is that she does apologize and she is willing to better herself at the end. Maybe some would label her as Toxic, but I think she would be Grey Area, since she at least apologizes in the end.

I'm going to say auggie comes out ahead of his wife only because the talk in kitchen scene. Julieta comes off a bit, I guess deaf, to her daughter's complaints. It didn't read at least to me, that she understands what mirabelle is going through. Her father on the other hand immediately identified the potential danger the vision tablet posed for mirabelle and tried to hide it and he stood by his actions to protect her when confronted.

Juliéta has a bit of the “toxic positivity” vibe going (telling Mirabel “you are perfect just the way you are” when she is obviously expressing insecurities) while Agustín really has a heart-to-heart talk with her. He relates more because he married into the family and also doesn’t have powers. Its great to see a father being portrayed positively in kids media. Fathers often get overlooked.

Duchess does belong in the good tier since the whole mess was not her fault and the poor cat was completely out of her limited scope of the world. Hercules and his two sets of parents have the best relationship ever. They are the kind of parents who everyone would wanna have, they are kind and gentle, patient and wise, they want what is best for their child, and they understand their child’s wants and needs. I wish that they got more credit for being so caring and loving, their relationship needs to be higher up on the good categories list, because they have the healthiest relationship with their son ever! I just can’t believe they’re at number nine! I love them! Their relationship with Hercules is just beyond heartwarming!

I’m glad Nani and Lilo were put on this list. Yes they’re actually sisters but like you said, Nani is essentially Lilo’s guardian. The movie does a great job showing their struggles as does the series episode “Remy”. In that episode it’s the anniversary of the day the girls lost their parents and Lilo is depressed because of this. Nani tries to make her feel better by making her a peanut butter and anchovy sandwich and Nani even scolded Stitch after he eats the sandwich when Lilo goes up to her room too depressed to eat. Later on when Nani learns of the experiment inside Lilo she gets mad at Jumba and Pleakly. She then sings to Lilo a song that her parents would sing to the girls to help them sleep when they were younger.

I think King Triton has a mixture of being healthy as well as being an toxic parent. His hatred towards humans is understandable if you saw the prequel film and his love for his 7 daughters is one that is almost natural for any father who has to raise them on his own while also managing a kingdom. His anger against his daughter when he discovers that she is in love with a human is where you see the toxic anger side of his parenting but he also regrets being angry and upsetting his daughter almost immediately afterwards. King Triton has all the different facets of both loving relationship as well as toxic in the same character.

I think Koda and his mother should've been on the list; due to how Koda is, it's clear that his mother loves and cares for him the way a parent should and is immediately ready to protect him anytime. And when they were separated, she spends her time trying to find him before her death. Koda brings up his mom a few times, showing that she has taught him a few things to help him in life. And their final reunion is heart-warming.

I would have put Rapunzel and her Parents lower down only because of the series. Her dad is kinda..... I just... he's not perfect, no one is but he has some pretty toxic and controlling behavior in the series, which is canon. There are a couple I disagree with but really THANK YOU for calling out Elsa and Anna's parents. They traumatized Elsa. There were told fear would make her powers harder to control and what do they do? immediately erased memories, isolated her, forced her to wear gloves because she shouldn't touch anything. They projected their fear onto their daughter.

He didn't respect her experiences, her skills, her intelligence or her independence as an adult. He lies and manipulates her away from the truth in an attempt to control her and he's willing to endanger his kingdom in order to do it and in order to avoid taking responsibility for his actions. He was extremely toxic in the beginning of the series. He learned better after season 1 and even he admitted he was wrong when he eventually apologized.

Thank you!! I always get frustrated that Gepetto doesn't walk Pinocchio to school on his first day. It isn't just the first day of school, it is literally the first day of his life, darnit. A few oversights though: Ariel and King Triton (The Little Mermaid) toxic - she disobeys him repeatedly and he yells at her and destroys her stuff instead of trying to compromise with her. Also, Triton actually favours Ariel over his six other daughters. Jenny Foxworth and her parents (Oliver & Company) toxic - they travel around Europe, leaving their 7-year-old daughter with a butler, who is a better parent, and they don't make the effort to come home for her actual birthday. Hiro and Tadashi Hamada and aunt Cass (Big Hero 6) neutral - Aunt Cass seems to try, but she admits she doesn't have a great hold on parenting, and Hiro lies to her about his activities with Baymax and being a super hero. Penny and her mother (Bolt) neutral - Penny is a child actress, but she doesn't seem happy about it and only wants to spend time with her dog, it takes Penny nearly dying for her mother to finally end her career despite how unhappy she has been. Arthur "the ward" and Sir Ector (The Sword in the Stone) toxic - Sir Ector treats Arthur like a servant and doesn't call him by his real name, though he is a decent father to his actual son Sir Kay, whom he actively encourages in his career goals. Judy Hopps and her parents (Zootopia) toxic - her parents discourage her dream career and promote racist views, though they change their views eventually. Kanga and Roo (Winnie the Pooh franchise) healthy - Kanga is loving and nurturing, but allows for Roo to be part of the action in the Hundred Acre Wood - albeit I don't remember every movie under this franchise, but the classics from 1977 and 2011 are fine. Aladar and Pilo (Dinosaur) healthy - Pilo raises Aladar to be caring and compassionate, and they stick together through their journey, never letting their difference in species tear them apart. Koda and his mother (Brother Bear) neutral - she protects him from danger, but since she dies, that is about as much as you can say about them. And joke mention: Fix-it-Felix and Calhoun to the Sugar Racers (Ralph Breaks the Internet) healthy - the couple make the racers kind and encouraging towards each other making their previously nasty personalities.

I feel like Elsa and Anna’s parents should be in the grey area not toxic. They locked Elsa away but to protect her. The towns people reacted badly when they found out about her powers in the movie and sent Hans to arrest or kill her. Plus they died trying to find a way to help Elsa that could have led to her being able to fix her relationship with Anna much sooner and not fear her powers. Of course they definitely could have handled it better but from what we see they clearly loved their kids and wanted the best for them…they just didn’t know what to do after talking with Pabbie.

Aurora actually had good parents. King Stephon even told Philip’s father that they might want to take things slowly when she returned because he feared that everything would be a shock for her. Also, the fairies’ plan to protect Aurora was working for most of the film, but then Flora and Merriweather had a magic duel because of the color of Aurora’s dress.

I wouldn’t think so. I have them in a mixture between healthy and toxic parents. Stefan and Leah made a poor decision of not inviting Maleficent and going way too far in enraging Maleficent even more by allowing the Fairies to insult her, yet they do care for their daughter by having her live with the Fairies, just to make sure she is safe. Even if he said he missed his daughter for a good reason, Stefan can be somewhat of a hypocrite as he opposed the idea of Aurora marrying Phillip just to unite their kingdoms, which indeed they did. His plan of burning spinning wheels is NOT truly heroic enough as it does not do enough to prevent the curse, according to the Fairies. His concern over Aurora relies on bog-standard acts of kindnesss, so he fails the admirable standards to Prince Phillip, who has performed more heroic actions than Stefan did. As for Leah, she contributes very little to the plot and she is no heroic actions as her concern over Aurora and kind traits rely on bog-standard acts of kindness, so she, too, fails the admirable standards.

I find king stephon rather stupid. When Melificent curses aurora, she says that aurora will pierce her finger on a spindle on her 16th birthday. They didn’t have to keep her hidden away when she was a kid, just when she was 16. They could’ve raise her normally and then just be her bodyguard her all day on her 16th birthday. They should’ve tried to help her find love so she could have a chance of saving her from the curse. He didn’t care for his daughter that much.

Buck was an idiot at the first half of Chicken Little but he redeemed himself and realized that it was time to be by his son’s side, not to mention he whupped those aliens and told Melvin to back off! But Gothel and Frollo are WAY worse than Buck. Same goes for Gabriel Agreste and Tomoe Tsurugi (even though Miraculous wasn’t Disney it is now). Minor nitpick, but for Tinker Bell 3: The Great Fairy Rescue (really underrated childhood imo), there’s a parental boundary that needed to be fixed between Lizzy and her dad. Her dad was busy with work all the time and was pretty strict with her daughter, heck he even had winged creatures on the wall! When Tink set the butterfly free, Lizzy took the fall unfortunately, but then Tink told the truth and when Vidia tried to save her, she got trapped by Lizzy’s dad, and everybody flew to save her, and Lizzy convinced her dad that those little fellas very friendly, and Lizzy’s dad finally understood her. After their hug they set Vidia free. I’d put Lizzy and her dad in the gray area.

Let's be honest, you only put Buck Cluck that low because you know it's popular opinion to say he's "the worst", but he's clearly not worse than Gothel, Treimane, Jim Hawkins' dad, and a bunch more on that list... The guy just wasn't comfortable supporting his son's questionable and destructive attitudes, but when he realizes the mistake he made, he felt guilty and ran to fix it, tryng to save the boy and eventually helping him in his plan to save the world, even fighting an army of aliens for that.

So where would Aurora and the three good fairies fall? It’s not a great relationship between the three of them since they drop all the domestic chores on Merryweather, however from what we can see they all clearly adore one another as a family unit of sorts, and all the effort they go to for the birthday party is great. Points off for poor planning on returning her on the night of her birthday rather than the day after, since Maleficent hadn’t found them, and they didn’t know Diablo was listening in. It isn’t perfect since they do isolate her out of fear of being discovered, however it looks hypocritical to let her go wandering into the woods alone where anyone could nab her.

Marlin and Nemo were also a grey relationship, Marlin kept on bubblewrapping Nemo after he lost everything, but even when he was over protective, he never gave up on getting him back and he showed interest in the little things like how he asked Crush how old he was for Nemo. For an adult the little things aren't really thought of as much, but for a child it means a lot and in that scene about that one question "can sea turtles live up to a hundred years old?" Is a really valuable example.

The fact that Elsa and Anna's parents didn't even listen to the trolls is what makes it worst. They said fear of her powers would be her undoing, so what do they do? They lock her away to make her fearful of herself and others, make her fearful of her own powers by telling her she can't show anyone her powers, create a dungeon to keep her in (the one Hans puts her in when they get back), and then run around the world trying to get rid of her powers. They feared her powers and that is what undid them, after they traumatized their daughter to be scared of herself and everyone else.

Hiro, once he gets his head out of his ass, about almost everything, really, shows her the love that she'd been showing him, the entire time. It's a solid relationship, and a realistic depiction of the burden of grief and loss.

(Sorry no animals) 1. Maurice- despite he’s a tad eccentric, he completely accepts Belle’s dreams and learns to forgive Adam. I also liked he wasn’t pressuring her to giving Gaston a chance 2. Archimedes Porter- he’s just like Maurice, loves Jane and even encouraged her to follow her heart to stay with Tarzan instead, even willing to give up his career to be with them. Only thing is I think he’s a bit clumsy because he’s older. 3. Kala- Not counting Kerchek, Kala is so sweet, supportive and loving to Tarzan despite the other gorillas kinda judging her. She’s even willing to let Tarzan be with other humans. Kerchek at least in the end apologized for being so hateful towards him all because he couldn’t accept his own son being murdered. 4. Frederik and Ariana- they never gave up on ever seeing Rapunzel, the scene before I See the Light is so sad with Ariana wiping Frederik’s tear away. And the lantern literally symbolizing a beacon of hope and love for their daughter wherever she is. Best part is they managed to make the most romantic scene ever! I also really liked their relationship in the sequel as both do have struggles with developing genuine relationships with her and Eugene. 5. James and Eudora- very sweet couple that grew up in a racist society, and taught Tiana the value of hard work, but Eudora also reminding her not to literally slave her life away. 6. Hua Zu and Hua Li- despite its more they want Mulan to become a typical bride, Zu actually shows he truly loves his daughter by assuring her it just isn’t her time yet. Also they gave their YinYang necklaces to Shang and Mulan when noticing they do have opposite views on some things. They even let Mulan choose her husband instead of sending her back to the matchmaker. I also really loved Zu saying “The greatest gift and honor is having you for a daughter” not even looking at the sword or crest. 7. Kida and her father- He is willing to admit to Milo its his fault why Atlantis suffered the flood and it cost them her mother to protect them, instead of blaming it on the crystal or something. He only wants to protect her and his people from something he feared could easily kill them, especially in the wrong hands. He is grieving when learning Kida’s fate too, begging Milo to save her because unfortunately he dies the next second. 8. Powhatan and Pocahontas- He truly does love his daughter and ultimately wants her to be safe and happy. While he betrothed her to someone he thought for sure would be a perfect husband, he doesn’t really listen to her trying to say she doesn’t love Kokoum and already knows he can’t accept her free spirited nature, instead insisting its the right path regardless of what she feels or wants. Even in the end he still believes John Smith killed Kokoum but completely forgave him, even giving him his chief robe, calling him brother so basically kinda making him a prince status, and giving them his blessing if Pocahontas wanted to go with him. When Pocahontas chose her people, you could see he was proud she made a heartbreaking but mature decision, but still completely supported her no matter what. Don’t care what Disney says, Pocahontas and John Smith got married and became the next chiefs of her people. 9. Hercules Earth parents- Just isn’t my favorite movie. They’re so loving and supportive of him even knowing about his divine nature ever since they found him. Its so cute to see Hercules actually giving them a freaking temple and chariot from his royalties. Also Zeus and Hera completely accepting his decision to stay a mortal instead was very sacrificial. 10. Triton and Ariel- Triton imo is probably one of my least favorite dads because of how stoic and stern he is. In LM3 it does show he used to be a more gentle father when Athena was alive, but unfortunately her death lead to him forbidding anyone from going to the surface, his daughters having almost absolutely no fun, but ultimately NO MUSIC. I really love in the end Ariel helps him see banning music isn’t going to bring her back or anything, if anything its just driving Athena away even more. And Triton does finally learn to let go of her and restore music. Despite nearly blowing up the grotto when Sebastian tattled, the night Ariel is with Eric he is so worried this time he took things too far, making everyone probably including her sisters to look without rest until Ariel is home. He even gave up his soul? to revoke Ariel’s deal, and despite not really knowing Eric aside him impaling his crazy sister (yes Ursula and Triton are siblings) he still chooses to let Ariel be with the man she loves, knowing forcing her to stay a mermaid would just make her miserable forever. Plus the ending Triton lifts the ban of surfacing/human interaction. HM: Its Pixar but I had to mention it. Hector and Coco! Despite he left to become a musician and Imelda resented him for “abandoning” them for his selfish gain, Remember Me is still so beautiful and undoubtedly one of the most beautiful love songs as all he wanted was to be with Imelda and Coco once again! Always bawl my eyes out at the end when Coco finally gets to be with her papa again! 😭

Since no one else seems to be speaking up for Agnarr and Idunna: They were living in a time and place in which magic was equated with evil, and in point of fact the villains in most of the Disney movies that came out before Frozen were usually women with magic. Agnarr and Idunna were terrified that if Elsa's magic became publicly known their people would try to kill her and possibly Anna as well, which is actually pretty close to what almost happened. It's also possible that Agnarr was afraid that using her magic might make Elsa evil, especially since Anna had just been hurt because the girls were playing when they should have been asleep. Their decisions were made out of fear, not malice, and the trolls did say that fear would be Elsa's enemy.

Kanga and Roo (Winnie the Pooh) - Grey Area healthy on the level of Duchess and the kittens. She is a loving, good, and kind mother but too often Roo ends up in danger simply because he's allowed to go out on his own so often at such a young age. Pacha and Chica and their children (The Emperor's New Groove) - Healthy. Both of them support their children's interests and take the time to listen to them babble on. As a family unit they are very supportive of each other and work together. Plio and her children, Suri and Aladar (Dinosaur) - Healthy. Plio is Suri's biological mother and adoptive mother to Aladar. She is shown to be supportive of Aladar and doesn't see him as a monster which so many of her other family, including her father Yar, initially sees him as. She is the primal reason Aladar was ultimately accepted into the lemur family and is loved by every member, including Yar. She is a guiding force and mentor in Aladar's adult life. Her relationship with Suri is good too. She is loving and protective, but also gives Suri the chance to explore and be herself. King Triton and Ariel (The Little Mermaid) - Grey Area Unhealthy. He obviously loves his daughter very much, but is so traumatized by his wife's death by humans that he absolutely forbids his 7 daughters from even going close to the surface. He is initially patient with Ariel when she breaks his rules, but overtime he loses his cool and eventually destroys her collection, driving her to go see Ursula. After Ariel's disappearance, he is seen regretting his decision and grieving. At the end, he ends up giving Ariel the life she wants, trusting her that she knows what's best for her. Their relationship starts off more toxic, but ends on the healthy side of things. Also, I would definitely place Buck Cluck and Chicken Little above Gothel and Tremaine. Buck was emotionally neglectful yes, but he wasn't trying to be. He just didn't know how to handle the situation given to him, which does impact Chicken Little quite a bit. In the end, they end up repairing their relationship.

I think Elsa and Anna’s parents and Aurora’s parents are on the grey area because I think they’re just doing their best to protect their children, and not to mention, in Frozen II, Iduna shows a healthy relationship with her daughters while Agnarr is on the gray area. Idk why Nani and Lilo’s relationship is on the healthy area because they get into fights a lot and should be on the toxic. Aladdin’s father should probably be on the toxic. King Triton should be on this list and is absolutely be on the toxic side! King Hubert and prince Philip should be in the gray area bc his father had a hard time accepting that he married a “peasant”. I think Pinocchio and Geppetto have a healthy relationship overall despite not being walked to school, he searched for him no matter how risky (that’s personally my opinion) Kerchak is toxic while Kala has a quite healthy relationship with Tarzan while raising him the best she can.

I know they weren't on the list, but Virana and Namaari have probably the most toxic biological mother-daughter relationship in Disney. Virana brainwashed her daughter from the time she was in the womb right up until she was 18, and emotionally manipulated Namaari in order to do her bidding. I mean, Virana's already an extremely harsh individual, who threatened to kill Raya and also threatened her generals when they disagreed with her, but her treatment of Namaari was just abysmal. She proved throughout the movie that she doesn't care about her daughter, Virana only cares about having power and being seen as the "superior" ruler of all the lands in Kumandra. The icing on the cake is that Virana never apologized for what she did, and that ticked me off greatly.

Every time I see and hear Pete, I get the distinct impression that he’s a military brat, which would help explain a lot about him if you stop and think about it. It’s not that Pete is incapable of love (I mean, he DOES end up having a wife, son and daughter of his own)--but having a soldier as a father isn’t exactly a picnic, especially if he’s a Vietnam War soldier (no offense, guys, but be honest, being in ‘Nam during the 60s and 70s--as Pete’s dad would’ve been if you do the math--wasn’t exactly a cakewalk, was it?). Pete’s dad didn’t know how to deal with the trauma, so he wound up taking it out on him. So Pete wound up raising his own son the way he he himself had been raised. During the pool scene in The Goofy Movie, Goofy gently and meekly calls Pete out by saying, “Maybe Max isn’t all the things that you think a son should be but--he loves me.” Pete REALLY doesn’t like that and responds by saying, “Hey! My son RESPECTS me.” It’s like he’s saying, ‘If that’s the price I have to pay so my kid doesn’t end up in jail, then so be it.’ Pete IS a bad dad, but at least he tries to be a good one. After all, he provides for his family and makes sure they stay on the straight and (very) narrow--even if he himself occasionally strays. And if anybody messes with them, look out! And being his family, his wife and kids have to have at least an inkling of what he went through, which is why they’re able to stay with him and love him, even if he doesn’t know how to show and tell it back to them. Anyway, that’s just my theory, but it makes sense. Doesn’t it?

Personally, I'd put Elsa and Anna's parents in the Grey area. Not the worst, but far from toxic. People (especially parents) can do the wrong things for the right reasons unintentionally (a *lot* )

Cody’s parents should be mentioned here. Yes they did call the Australian officers and rangers to find Cody. However, they don’t go out of their way to join the search effort for Cody themselves, which would’ve been a bit heartwarming to see them spend their time to track their only son to McLeach's hideout in the mine. However, I can probably understand they were afraid that McLeach would’ve taken the chance to have them chased and possibly attacked by Joanna similar to what happened with Cody.

Rapunzel's relationship with Gothel is similar to Mother gothel and Cassandra's relationship Gothel was leaving a 3 year old Cassandra on her own for many hours morning till night in their cottage. She was telling Cassandra to do the house chores and she fakely told her that she loves her . She also cut the bridge, she left with baby Rapunzel and abandoned Cassandra who was adopted by the captain of the royal guards. Cassandra loved Gothel and showed her affection while Gothel didn't show her affection.

would've replaced sarabi(as far as simba knew he thought scar would take care of everything with how he trusted him and thought everyone would be safer if he stayed away thinking he got his father killed,got pissed seeing scar hurt her and returned from his fathers words not only nala.) with king triton(could've avoided the stuff with ursula if he just let ariel explain herself.), moana really isn't the same as mulans(wouldn't say it was forcing their views on her as they were understanding to her not fitting in.) as their world was literally getting the life sucked out by te fiti's heart being stolen and she nearly loses her life at sea as a baby,in king stefan's case maleficent was pretty petty with her actions,the fairies weren't that incompetent with aurora(they help give the prince a chance to actually hurt the witch for one.) and he does argue with hubert about their children marrying right away,with frollo still find it odd the priest even if it was out of his hands doesn't really have scenes of him comforting quasimodo considering he saved him . with gepetto really wouldn't call it outright negligence more just natural of the times where they lived/jiminy could've done a better job averting him from honest john,would put gothel over buck cluck as he at least attempted to make up for everything chicken little went through protecting him from the aliens(especially when until they got teleported thought the alien robots were killing people with their beams/defended ace when the alien father blames him for taking his child.)/pressure from the way worse townspeople compared to gothel being a selfish narcissist who locked up rapunzel to use her power instead of naturally raising her and put tremaine/elsa's parents(even by disney standards they had a billion ways of handling elsa's problem instead of gaslighting her.) at the top as they are completely at fault for the movies events.
