Beauty and the Beast was one of the most successful and beloved movies to come out of the Disney Renaissance. Following the story of Belle, she found herself at the hands of a cursed prince and slowly began to fall for him, leading to true love breaking the enchantment on his castle. It’s a story of learning who a person is beneath the surface rather than assuming one’s worthiness at face value.
That said… The characters in this movie have a lot of problems. To the point where there’s quite a bit of depth to their morality. And that’s what we’re looking at today.

I think Forte should’ve been 2nd. He tried to destroy the castle and everyone in it and is a lot smarter than Gaston, making him more dangerous.

Forte should be first on the list. Guys, he was willing to destroy the WHOLE castle, he did not care that people could die…he did not even care that he could die! He truly thought that death would’ve been preferable rather than abandoning his pipe-organ form. It’s true, Gaston himself along with the civilians attacked the castle as well, but definitely not on this level. Forte’s strength is unmeasurable since he could really take the whole ship down with him just using some notes.

I feel if you did a good to evil list for the live action Beauty and the Beast, it would look a bit different. LeFou would end up in the Grey area Most evil wouldn’t be Gaston, but the Beast’s father

Adam (aka Beast) is my favorite Disney character of all time. I can relate to him in some ways and he is such a BADASS! 😃 But frl tho, I love how his character changed from Neutral to pure Good. Although I did find his neutral behavior quite interesting.

As far as ranking the "sinful trinity", I have it as being inverted: M. D'Arque is sinister, but he doesn't do much other than try to take Maurice to his asylum; Gaston is chauvinistic, and tries to devastate Belle into marrying him, but as you said he keeps the community supplied with game, and not knowing the Beast, he perhaps had due cause to raise the alarm against him; now Forte did perhaps the most damage, he conspired to push the rift between Beast and Belle, he tried not only to kill the two but also destroy the whole castle, his is menacing to the point that I would have given him the gold medal of evil.

I think it’s because he enforces the rules to ensure the Beast doesn’t get angry and hurt/destroy anything. Lumiere is a little more lax and technically endangered Maurice by letting him into the castle knowing the Beast would be furious….. so it kind of makes sense.

My Ranking of the Characters from good to evil. (only the first film and not including the sequels) The Good Ones: 1) Chip 2) Maurice 3) Mrs Potts 4) Belle 5) Lumiere The Grey Side: 6) The Closet 7) Cogsworth 8) The Villagers 9) The Female Trio 10) The Beast The Evil Side: 11) The Asylum Owner 12) LeFou 13) Gaston The Beast had excellent development but the sequences where he was a complete narcissist before he loved Belle indicated that he deserved to be lower than The Female Trio, Cogsworth and the Villagers but he’s still a great character with excellent development and made sacrifices by saving Belle, changing his attitude and realizing that his actions impacted and took personal responsibility.

Nice list here dudes, though I would like to rearrange this list quite a little bit myself. First off, I would split up the Villagers/Mob and form them into two groups, mainly the rest of the villagers, like the baker for example, and Gaston's quartet of minions, Gaston's Gang/Goons (who might be named Tom, Dick, Stanley and Gramps). I would give most of the townspeople a very lowly ranking, probably the in the lower grey area or top of the bad area for being a bunch of jerks to Belle and eager to take Gaston's side on everything and take his word on the Beast being a threat to their livelihoods (helps that the Beast does look like a terrifying monster). The four men in Gaston's team are even lower than them just for being a bunch of yesmen who blindly follow their leader Gaston. Also I think Forte is much worse than Gaston myself, he is willing to destroy the whole castle and take out everyone, even killing the old prince himself, who he considered his closest and best friend.

The Enchantress should’ve been higher. Despite the Enchanted Xmas flashback, Lumiere said they were cursed for 10 years & the opening narration said the rose would bloom until the prince was 21 years old, which means he was 10 when he got cursed. Royal privilege or not, it’s completely normal for a kid that young to refuse a stranger, creepy looking or not, into his home.

Anita Darling - She was always a good friend of Cruella unlike the most of kids Artie - He saved Horace and Wink from George who tried to kill them Grey Area Principal - He held a grudge against Cruella but he only did that because he thought that she is a bad kid Buddy and Wink - They are both very nice dogs who truly care for their masters and saved them from trouble many times and could easily qualify as Good if they weren't assisting their masters in stealing stuff Jasper and Horace - They let Cruella join their gang and saved her from worries but still were stealing stuff from others Cruella - She is the most complicated character in the movie as she was a sweet but disobedient kid at first who turned into a full-fledged villain later and even was rude to her companions in one period but still loves them and saved them from prison Dalmatians - They were Baroness' attack dogs who killed Cruella's adoptive mother Catherine and possibly many other people before her but they were only listening their master and became good quickly after they were removed from Baroness' care Bad To Evil Gerald - He was a huge jerk to Cruella and disapproved and mistreat her 3. School Bullies - They were doing much terrible things to Cruella from the beginning 2. George and Jeffery - They tried to kill Cruella and to incriminate Jasper and Horace for burning the building and didn't care when Cruella told them to spare her and that Baroness is the terrible boss 1. Baroness Von Hellman - She is easily the most evil character in the movie and she tried to kill her daughter multiple times and killed multiple people in the past including Cruella's adoptive mother

This movie Beauty And The Beast is up there as one of my favorite Disney movies. Lumiere & Cogsworth are my favorite characters from the film because of how they were helpful to Belle showing her around the castle, and how they put on a show with the song Be Our Guest. Though I associate with Cogsworth more because I can be more cautious wanting everything to be safe, and I'm the smart one in my friend group.
