Even though this one is a basic recipe everyone is or has started somewhere and I appreciate it just the same. The humor makes these even more enjoyable. I hope these get the attention they deserve, I can tell how much thought is put into production and the end product is worth it.

Poor mum 😂. Been 80/20 vegan for 2 years. Almost given up finding experienced chef to make uncomplicated tasty recipes. Thanku so much for sharing.

OK I will try it this way. Had given up on the 'steaming' method and gone to free boiling, like pasta, because I could NOT get the rice to cook without making it a gummy sticky blecchy mess. For like 30 years! Free boiling has yielded better results but not always perfect, more than likely because I don't get enough water off after it has completely cooked through.

I had soo much fun watching this video your mum is a dish! At my young age I can't still cook rice properly so it was extremely informative, thanks Derek. By the way I kind of like to listen to the instructions being given in cups and spoons, after learning to cook from watching food tv network, around 20 years ago while living in Pittsburgh, and being in UK for the last 10 years I still use the same measurements! 😇😊 Thanks keep the good work! 💚

I made the peanut sauce last night and it was really salty. My brothers loved it. The mushrooms were really good and I made them different then the way you made them. I think you might want to try it this way if you dont have cast iron pans. I cooked them in a pan and then i put them in a panini press and my gosh yum! The sauce was good and I think I might need to make more this week. I kinda ran out of gluten free soy sauce. Oh and my youngest brother looked at some of the names of the sauces and said lets make the one I cant read the name! I could not make that sauce because I did not have every thing for it.

I think this is the only instruction set that tells you to open the rice while it’s cooking. Everyone else says to keep it closed. When you constantly open it or check on it, you release the pressure of the water from the pot, throwing off the cooking process. Every time I’ve tried this it has made the rice inconsistent and uncooked. Don’t open the pot.
@hankkingsley9183 Жыл бұрын
Yeah that's not a thing. Unless you are cooking in a pressure cooker, there's no need to worry about that. There is no "pressure of the water". The steam isn't building up in the pot, it's being released by the hole in the lid, or escaping from the edges. Open the pot as you like, there's no way to check on the cooking process unless you open it. Of course once you do it a few times and if you use the same brand of rice you'll know by your timer when to remove the heat and then you don't have to open it, but it does no harm to open it.

Time for you to upgrade and buy a rice cooker and/or an Instant Pot. I haven't cooked rice on the stove ever since I got my rice cooker. And heck, I use the delayed start feature on my IP, program the cooking time, program the delayed start, walk away, and do my daily chores, cook back home and I have a rice dish, or soup often cooked up for me. No babysitting a pot on the stove required. But if I'm just cooking rice, I pull out the rice cooker because it often has a shutoff feature that will turn the rice off. And the IP automatically goes into keep warm when something has finished cooking. This isn't bad unless you get home three hours or more after the cooking has stopped.

Hi Dericks mum 👋 Hi Squrel friend. What are your thoughts on black and red rice? Can I apply this method of cooking to those as well?. Wow thank you, I didn't know some of these. Honestly I just put rice in a wok and with eater boil it for 15 mins and then drain and rince the water out.
@DerekSarnoChef5 жыл бұрын
Some of the ancient grains require slightly different cook methods always good to read the pack. This will work with most white and brown, long grain, Jasmine and basmati rice.
