When you travel the states, and you and Frankie find yourselves near Seattle, especially a little north of Seattle, I have a place for you to stay (my and my wife’s home) where you could rest/sleep with a hot shower; where Frankie could run on an acre of sustainable, organic land; a zendo where you could meditate; and a gourmet-like kitchen where you could either cook a vegan meal for us, or allow me to cook one for you. You need to check out Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah. It’s a a No-Kill shelter on 6,000 acres in one of the most beautiful places in the world. They give tours and serve a vegan lunch for $5.

Welcome home! I’ve only been watching you for a short while, however, this 85 year young lady has learned sooo much from you. Thank you! Our journey to being vegan has been most unconventional. Changing our diet to, organic, nondairy, sugar, gluten free, non processed foods because of my grandchildren’s autism. I live with my daughter & 2 amazing kids. As time passed, my grandson informed us, first, no meat, tummy hurts, then no chicken makes my brain hurt, etc, etc. Bottom line.. we’re vegetarian/vegan and I tell everyone, “ my grandkids autism has made us the healthiest we’ve ever been “ You have helped us add more variety to our meals! My Grandaughter tries new ways to cook veggies, UTUBE shorts, grandson will eat anything I cook, adventuresome with combination of spices. Smart, healthy and willing to learn. Moving from city living, Orange County, to our home in the beautiful mountains has been another great! Don’t hesitate to go plant based. Slowly but surely. Get to a certified nutrition specialist first. We take supplements, and get blood tests every year and are doing excellent! Good luck!❤️🙏👍🏼

It took my twenty years to change my diet from 99% meat to 100% plant based. TWENTY. YEARS. I hate(d) veggies and fruit. I've always cooked the food that I eat andI found that when I swapped to full plant diet, I was cooking amazingly tasting foods. My wife and I went vegan overnight after watching Gary Yourofsky's best speech in 2011. That's all she wrote! Sure there was a learning curve but the commitment can absolutely happen instantly and does with many vegans. It's super easy for most people to just switch body parts with beans. Let's not patronize to people's weaknesses creating self-fulfilling prophecies. It's best to jump right in because then you will experience the physiological benefits right away. Your taste buds will change quicker, you'll lose that excess weight quicker, etc. but of course you have to worry about any medications you might be on because you may not need them anymore! So consult with your doctor. And if you're not used to eating legumes and whole vegan foods then there may be an acclimation period required. But that can happen in just a matter of a week. 💚🌱💚

Yourofsky's speech is also what made me go vegan overnight. But I only found it because of a kindhearted & approachable vegan chef. I would love it if everyone had a similar reaction to the speech and went vegan overnight, but that's just not the world we live in. And so, I think it takes all types and approaches to get others to consider veganism. Maybe Derek's patience will be that for some, and Yourofsky's stern condemnation for others.

@khymesound I think it takes a multi-approach effort as well. But virtually every approach can encourage abolition. I have interviewed hundreds of vegans and many of them are advocates with different approaches. It's rare if ever for a vegan to employ welfarism and reductionism. But if they do or if they encourage baby steps then it still makes sense to use that time and explain the benefits as I've delineated in my original comment. Sure it's important to meet people where they are at. But it's also important to be straight up. Really baby steps are more complicated if you actually think it through. Some may even argue reductionism is so much more effective it saves more animals. But that's implying mutual exclusivity. For example I know that people have reduced after hearing my abolitionist oriented vegan activism AND some have just gone straight into veganism. If someone else wants to take a Peter Singer or humane society approach it's all good. But personally I'd rather just not waste any time beating around the bush...
