Derek, I love this recipe and the marquee narration makes me laugh out loud. I'm going to make this tomorrow after soaking the beans - which will be a first for me. I soooo appreciate you and the straightforward cooking education. You make cooking simple and I love the fact that you don't have 100 different tools, machines, etc. just sharp knives, cast iron or stainless steel pans, and awesome clean up habits. Thank you so much for always being there just when I need the next recipe. Namaste 🙏😇🕊 and big hugs to Frankie 🤗🎄

Hey Derek, I recently discovered your channel and I wanted to say THANK YOU. I've been vegan 8 years, and I'm quite competent in my cooking at this point. I used to love watching vegan youtubers but felt really burnt out the past few years as I found all the content and recipes pretty similar and I wasn't really learning anymore (still incredible creators! I just wasn't feeling it anymore) This channel is like a breath of fresh air. Great cooking tips, original recipes that I can alter easily, and a super quirky (in a great way) editing style that keeps me engaged and laughing. Plus look at that POOCH!! So so cute. Thanks, from a new fan

This soup looks incredible! I LOVE making soups/stews. I can say with confidence that I'm a soup-a-holic. 😄 One of the things I really appreciate about them is that you can easily make them into an all-in-one, one-pot meal -- meaning you can get all your nutrients in that one bowl. No having to make a side salad or a grain or a potato. Everything you need is in that one beautiful bowl. 👍

Any instapot tips for beans?
@user-fs6ou3fk9p10 сағат бұрын
@Di-eq7wn I just googles dry beans in the instapot and came up with lots of videos.
@VeretenoVids4 сағат бұрын
@@Di-eq7wn Rinse, sort, chuck 'em in the pot, add water (generally ratio by volume is 1:3), salt, couple of cloves of garlic, two onion halves. You can toss in a bay leaf or some cumin if you like. I find that smaller beans are usually done in 30-35 mins. Larger ones take 45 or so. I use the bean setting only because it's like a preset time/temp I can just press. If you open the pot and the beans are still a bit firm, give 'em another 5 minutes.
@todayisforever8 сағат бұрын
i love how you describe the cooking and giving a guide and a "short recipe, thx for this.
@sheeralim80207 сағат бұрын
Bought an instant pot. I can pressure cook any dry beans in 35 minutes. Best purchase ever!
@VeretenoVids4 сағат бұрын
I love my Instant Pot for beans. Dump dry beans in (after sorting and rinsing, of course), add water ( I find generally 3 inches above the beans is plenty and any extra becomes pot "likker" for soups, etc.), add salt, chuck in a couple of smashed garlic cloves and two onion halves. Seal it up and 30-45 minutes later there will perfect beans! (It does take a bit of experimentation with different varieties before you get it bang on every time.) I never thought I'd want an IP, but now that I've discovered the joy of cooking beans and steel cut oats in it, it was totally worth it for me.

Thanks for your great recipes. so many chefs and channels insist they have easy normal day life recipes. but often I got disappointed as it is more complexe and high skill based and expensive than i hope. but your recipes ar so clean , clear , cool .. "simple", yummy and awesome for us normal people out there. Thanks a lot for your time. appreciated. warm regards from Germany. Our vegan old Dog: Aki ...says Hi to Frankie. 😊

In Spain this kind of soups/stews are part of the traditional winter cuisine. Instead of adding ready made broth, as you'll be boiling the pulses a long time you make the broth at the same time. Just add a lot more vegetables with the beans, after boiling for two hours what you have is a nice home made broth. You can sauté the veggies first, but you can just put everything together and simmer it. You typically use onion, leek, celery, carrot, parsnip/turnip, and add whatever you have, really. I like to add a couple of fresh tomatoes (peeled, diced) and, even if not traditional, a piece of fresh ginger. And one or two laurel leaves are a must. If you boil lots of veggies with chickpeas, the broth is delicious, which you can use for other recipes.

You are soooo right about every advantage to making dried beans. Also, re: making dried beans - once I got the process down, they're super easy, and they practically make themselves. I feed 3 adults and I make 2lbs of pinto beans per week, and eat beans in pretty much everything I make for lunch/dinner every day of the week. Salads. Soups. With eggs. Vegan nachos.
