I remember my dad singing this song, on holiday in Devon, driving to WIDDICOMBE IN THE MORE. A child hood memory.

Used to listen to this as a child, and I've had it going round my head all this Christmas season, so I've finally saught it out! Thanks for the upload it's as good as I remember!

It's believed the Bill Brewer mentioned in the song is my ancestor. Closest we can find to celebrity status - how sad am I?

Not sad at all! How many people have ancestors mentioned in a song? Even kings are precious few and far apart.

@@christopherbrown842 Thanks, you make a valid point. My Grandmother (Susie Brewer) was the last of the breed in my line. She was born under a tree at the fair ground in Penzance. Married a sailor by the name of Dench from Weymouth and moved away from the travelling fairground life. Both now long gone unfortunately.

Brilliant. But my personal memory of it being performed wonderfully in concert by the 'original' Kings Singers with the Alistairs, Brian, etc.....Happy Days...

This is such a great performance of such a great arrangement. Anyone know whether the score is available for humble imitators like myself to buy?

My Brother Steve had to sing this song on stage when he was 8 or 9 in what must have been the early 60s and his one line was "PETER GURNEY" ..I wont mention the stupid papier Mache hat he had to wear as that would be cruel.

The same thing happened to me at the same age at St. Peter's R C Primary School in Bromsgrove though my only line was "Peter Davy" as I popped up from behind a screen, I can't remember if I had to wear a silly hat.

Absolute hell: can't bear this lot. They are so contrived, mechanical and uninspired!
