There is no such thing as autotune. I have a Thundermax. I love it. BUT you must have your base maps right for your set up. You still have to adjust timing for low rpm spark knock, or change base map AFR for mpg vs heat etc. Thundermax is great at adjusting your tune for conditions but you have to do the initial work. You get the setup disk with the tuner. You should familiarize yourself with the program before installing. My bike is not stock. I've had to spend hours tweaking my base maps. If your bike is closer to stock or hopped up more traditionally than mine then yes it's the best. And it's the only tuner for boost I trust.

Been using the Power Vision for years. Besides being a outstanding tuner it also features a very complete sensor display, if the bike has a sensor they will display the output making troubleshooting a lot easier. Also Hammer performance strongly suggests Power Vision, and since I was using their 1250 kit on my Sporty it made the choice a no brainer. Thunder-Max does not have a real time display. When I started using Power Vision I didn't know about Thunder-max, and most likely wouldn't have got it because of the cost. I started using Power Vision, then added the wide band sensors later, the old style, not Target Tune. Today, Thunder-Max has a real strong point if your bike is still under warranty, since it is a complete ECM replacement just reinstall the factory ECM before taking it to the dealer for any problems, could save you thousands in repair. Also Fuel Moto has it for sale at a GREAT price. And in my opinion Fuel Moto is a great shop.
@GixxerFoo3 жыл бұрын
The Power Vision is awesome since you can email tunes as well. It's great especially for Hammer since they can send you a tune they've built and take the risk of destroying the engine out. There's been guys try and input the tune into a FP3 on a phone or tablet and shell their motor. It can be done but it's very risky, well worth investing in the Power Vision to be safe doing major upgrades.

Excellent video. Just want to add one thing regarding ditching the Harley ECM for a ThunderMax (which I am a big fan of). The stock Delfi ECM has the capability of retarding timing if it detects pinging. You won't even know it's happening. All automatic in the background. That's not available with ThunderMax. So, if your motor starts pinging, there will be no timing retarding in the background like with the stock ECM. To eliminate pinging, (providing it's not happening due to bad gas, overheating, or lugging the motor) the timing would have to be adjusted manually in the tune. In my opinion, not a deal breaker as I do like the Thunder Max
@Jermz19792 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Adding to that, finding someone that's not only capable, but GOOD at tuning on a ThunderMax can be an exercise in futility as well. If they don't have a tune that matches your engine combination (cam/intake valve combo) you still have to take it to be tuned and good luck finding someone worth taking it to. The ThunderMax is one of those things that sounds amazing in theory, but in reality it's just not worth the problems, especially if you're already out of your warranty period.
@MarvFitBikesKicks Жыл бұрын
So would you recommend the Thundermax over stock ecm?
@kenpuzio645 Жыл бұрын
@@Jermz1979 Well, the ThunderMax IS pretty amazing. You just need to start with a close base map & be aware that timing is fixed in the map & needs to be manually adjusted in the case of pinging. I wanted to upgrade my 03 SE Deuce with pipes and air cleaner. I was told by HD that they couldn't flash my ECM because HD would not give them new maps for that bike since it was "special". So in order to do so I had to go with the TMax. Even TMax had a hard time giving me a map for the tune. Fast forward the bike runs great. For the first year I would ride the bike for 500 miles and update the map based upon the auto tunes suggested points. The tuner will only allow 10% up or down of correction from the base map. Any thing outside of that it wont correct. But as you update the tuning points that were outside of the 10% get within range to be tuned. Thus building a near perfect tune. The cost @ over 1k after tax was not what I wanted to hear but it was well worth the money to get the project finished and me what I wanted to do with the bike.

I think that when the thundermax tuner is recommended since you have to replace the stock ecm, people should be informed that the it is a alpha n system and there is no knock sensing with the thundermax tuner. @GixxerFoo2 жыл бұрын
If you have a tuner you might be able to view the specs on the cam, you'd want to look at the intake valve open and close times. Stock cam on a 2016 Street Bob with a 103 is the 484, Street Bob didn't have the 103 HO with the 511 cam. Open would be 12 atdc (at top dead center) and 30 abdc (above dead center) this is the timing specs where the ECU reads the MAP sensor. If you are able to view those numbers and they differ, that would indicate the cam is not stock. If it's not stock you could search down those two numbers and maybe find out what cam is actually in it, otherwise you'd have to pull the cams out and see what is stamped on them.

Please an answer on this, power vision with target tune wide band o2 system (speed density) or thunder max (alpha n) for a 2022 low rider s with full 2-1 exhaust and possibly a cam? Which one and why? Or just dyno tune and be done with it?
@RideAmerica3 жыл бұрын
So, is the PV target tune meant to stay on the bike full time? Previously, I had a PV - I didn't do anything but flash a canned map for a state 1. Admittedly, it is probably more powerful than the FP3. However, for my new bike, I just ordered an FP3. Primarily is ease of use and using my phone to interact with the device as I plan on leaving it on. I probably won't do more than a stage one with the FP3.
@GixxerFoo3 жыл бұрын
Yeah the target tune stays on the bike, it's the link between the wide band 02 sensors and the ECM. Nothing wrong with an Fp3, it will everything the Power Vision will do. The FP3 just needs a better interface like a PC program like the power vision.

The ThunderMax is the best one out there, but for a dyno tuner l would have to say Power Vision. That's what a majority of tuners out there use. If you have a couple tuners in mind you might give them a call and see what they can tune with and what they will charge.

Harley-Davidson says it only works with the Street Tuner but your bike is the right year to use with the Smart Tune Pro. I don't know for sure if it would work, Harley says it won't and I have a feeling there's something with the software coding that tells the unit if it's a Street Tuner. I have been trying to contact guys that erase VIN numbers from these tuners to be able to use them on other bikes again to find out. They aren't exactly forthcoming with their secrets, which is understandable. I am not a computer programmer but I know enough to be dangerous lol. I've been playing around with some old units I bought to try and figure what would prevent them from being used with these wideband systems. I'll be happy to share if I can get one unlocked!

I've brought the Power vision, just the touch screen one, and I'm going to do a stage 2, 468c, s&s pump etc, and I'm going to remove the catalytic converter..........."so" can I tune all of the above modifications just with an auto tune from the power vision. ??? I have narrow band. Thank you for any help provided, keep up the good work. 🤘👍
@GixxerFoo3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, you can do that with your current setup and just the cam swap. You will just have to input the cam specs into the Power Vision and run the auto tune. You may even give DynoJet a call or where you bought your PowerVision and see if they have a good base map for the cam. Just make the autotune as thorough as you can, that will get you a good tune that will work well. It may not get it's full potential but you would need to get it on a dyno to get all the power on the table.

Is there anything for us guys that have the older bikes? I have an 01 FLHTCUI with the fantastic MM injection. I currently have a PC3 that I have done the firmware update on that dynojet tells me it is now equal to the PC5. I changed out the cams while I did the cam plate/tensioner upgrade and have been struggling badly to find a tune for it. All the local timers are booked through august and the local dealer won’t touch the bike because of its age and injection system. I love the bike, especially since it’s paid for, but what are my options to upgrade the ecm/fuel management system that will allow me to keep building on this thing without running into that same brick wall I’m trying to get over now?
@GixxerFoo2 жыл бұрын
You've got some options, none involve the Manetti Marelli system though. Zippers does make a Delphi conversion kit to update the injection system, it's not cheap but it's less than a decent down payment on a new bike and you get a ThunderMax ECM. That's the best option out there if you want to keep the FI, the other option is a single fire ignition and converting back to a carb. Here's a video that will give you insight into the options kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGO6g6CQqrxkotk.

Over my head, do all require changing pipes? What about the Cobra plug and play thingy, supposed to check tune 5 million times a second, but I don't see how it works without using O2 sensor? My dyna and ScreaminEagle run great, I have no idea if they got a tuner or not, but it seems to me that ScreaminEagle would be the one to use, if I ever think about it.....well I think I'm limited on choices for 07 and 08
@GixxerFoo3 жыл бұрын
2007 and later you can run just about any tuner you like, 06 earlier is Power Vison V or Thunder Max. The Cobra is a piggy back tuner, it works to modify the fuel system but does nothing for timing or cylinder volumetric efficiency like a flash tuner. They are good for a set of pipes and air cleaner but nothing more. Harley doesn't sell the race tuner anymore, so now they only offer the street tuner. The Street Tuner's AFR tables are locked and can't be modified so your stuck with a very lean tune which keeps the bike running hot like a stock bike would.

@GixxerFoo3 жыл бұрын
My understanding is that the Smart Tune Pro only works with the Screamin Eagle Street Performance Tuner, the SE street tuner's map allows the Smart Tune Pro to work. I'm not a software developer but I know enough to be dangerous lol. There is a specific map with the SE tuner that is required for the Smart Tune pro to operate. Which basically means a line of code that tells the auto tuner yes this is a Screamin Eagle map you're okay to operate. Without the map from the SE Street Tuner my understanding is that it will not function.

The Powe Vision, it's a complete flash tuner that reprograms the ECM. The Power Commander is a piggy back system that manipulates the ECM. It's not a bad system but flash tuners are way more powerful.

@GixxerFoo3 жыл бұрын
If he's got a dyno and is able to flash the ECM I would go that route, he's probably wanting to modify the timing and tune your cylinder volumetric efficiency (calculations on how much air is filling in the cylinders). He may have a perfected tune to start with for the combination he is installing so I would likely go with what he says.

From what I am seeing the Target Tune add on only works with the Power Vision. But if you were to upgrade to the Power Vision and then add the complete target tune setup you're right there with getting a ThunderMax. If you already had a Power Vision I would recommend the Target Tune, since you would need a complete upgrade the ThunderMax would be the way to go in my opinion. The Target Tune is a signal interpreter to allow the stock ECM to understand the wideband system. The Thundermax is a complete ECM designed for wideband and they are about the same price as the Power Vision and the Target Tune together.

Possibly, since the autotuner has it's own stand alone controller it should care less about the map in the ECM. All it's job is is to keep the parameters within the map on the ECM. I say it should work unless Harley-Davidson has a coding in the map that wouldn't allow it to work unless it's flashed with a map from the Street Tuner. I'll have to ask around to be sure, I haven't seen anyone try it yet.
