I filmed this video almost two years ago. This is a nice little wideband Yagi but the driven element turned out to give me a new idea for a new antenna design that I have been working on for the last 12 months. And I think you will like it.

I'm glad you're back Andrew, I enjoyed the video as always. I don't find much time nowadays to get to building antennas, but your new videos have reminded me how much I enjoy the nature of them.

Interesting antenna principle! Thanks for sharing.

That only looks like a patch antenna, but its actually kind of a UWB monopole antenna. As to four SRR-s in front of director elements I have no idea, it certainly looks like some of those meta-materials. I would love to see some radiation patterns.

Thank you for doing so much. Finally, let us test the power of every antenna you make, its ability to pick up networks and their quality. I don't understand the changes you explain on the frequency reader

Hi Andrew. Thank you for sharing this! Very intriguing -- and highly worthy of a test-build. Which leads to a question: For the purpose of scaling the PCB layout, should the 20mm square you show for scale be measured between the outside edges or the inside edges of the black lines defining this square? (On my printer, these figures come out as 21mm and 19mm, respectively).

Hi Andrew, the moment I saw the planar filters on the end of the Yagi, I thought it very strange. On the end are Folded arm Open loop resonators. They are typically used for filter design. Never seen them in Antenna design at all. You are right the orientation of the planar antenna is weird and I would have never thought of that so I would be curious about its radiation pattern. Patch antennae are inherently very narrow bandwidth, but I have considered the option of edge coupling to increase the bandwidth, but the cost could be something else. Gain? Directivity? will have to wait. I don't have access to CST Studio at the moment as I am working on another project. May one day.

What I can tell you is that they do add capacitance to the antenna if you remove them it completely changers the frequency!

You should cut off the elements at the end and see how the frequency response changes.

I enjoy your vids, good work. In a future video, could you explain what's going on please, on the network analyser please? I see that lower on the screen is better but could you possibly explain a bit about what we are looking at? Cheers!

Hi Andrew .Long time no watch.Hope you're well.Another good Vid. 1?=What would you say is the Overall Gain of the above PCB as it is? 2?=Can someone recomend a Decent budget friendly Tenna for MR600 on bands 7,7 ,1,7 MiMo.Tried a few Cheapies indoors so far= on par or worse than the OG Tennas?All ideas appreciated. 💡

The active element does not have ground plane under it so I think it should have more less omnidirectional radiation pattern. I just wonder, does your modification improve its parameters?

Do you think that using the copper tape on pieces of plastic arranged in a radial pattern with eight leaves make an omni-direction antenna for a television reception ? Thanks for your methods and ideas too Andrew. .

Hello again! Ive come to rely on your channel as vital source of information in the field of microwave antenna design and construction. That being said, I was hoping you could visit the topics of parabolic antennae, polarization and SatCom reception. With the end goal of actually launching my KZbin channel the debut project I’ve put on myself is attempting to receive the imaging payload downlink of various lunar orbiters. I’ve just about sourced all my hardware. I’m down to devising a receiving element for my parabolic and need some more knowledge in the area primarily of polarization. I understand the theory I just need to see a hands on of how polarization is factored into antenna design. The frequencies I’ll be working with are 8.45Ghz (+\-350Mhz) and Left Hand Circular Polarization . Any input will be greatly appreciated

those 4 outer "u/n"-shaped elements seem noticably closer to the outermost parasitic element on the PDF than on the PCB. couldn't that degrade performance or did you do it that way for a reason?

is it actually working as a yagi or is the main element just a panel?
@andrewmcneil
@andrewmcneil Жыл бұрын
No, it does work as a Yagi the same way that some of the panel antennas work when parasitic elements are added to reduce the beamwidth to increase gain.
