Learner Tien, the pride of Irvine, CA. He is named Learner in honor of his mother’s profession. She is a math teacher. He has a sister named Justice to honor his father’s profession. His father is an attorney.

An absolute natural. His court movement and shot making are so fluid, to go along with a calm and focused demeanor. Fight On!

Learner Tien? He was a learner and a teacher. This is one of the most artistic Grand Slam tennis match I have seen in my near forty years watching tennis at this level. The art, the craft, the skills, the geometry, the smart (intelligence), you name it. It had almost everything. It was intriguing. A classic in my view. This young man out Medvedev, Medvedev.
@garywheeler946515 сағат бұрын
I remember watching him several months ago and thinking, 'he's like Medvedev.' If his opponents want to hit him off the court, they are going to need to get low for as long as possible because he, like Meddy, keeps it low and moves it around like a magician.
@brandonchan825510 сағат бұрын
I'd let this simmer for a bit. Once other players figure out his play style and ways to counter, he might not be so great. It's a nice surprise, but will it last? I've seen too many players who were a flash in the pan, but we'll see.
@byronhay16488 сағат бұрын
@ Point taken. But he has tremendous potential. How he is managed going forward is a different thing. But you must admit he played that match at a level way beyond his experience.

Seems like a great kid. New fan here. I didn’t see the whole match but it is obvious that he will be tough to handle in the future… he is a fluid mover and so accurate with his shots… not the most power but hits the ball early and accurate.

The winner deserves kudos and so does Medvedev for trying hard in the wee hours, an Australian Tennis scheduling official's booking strategy. Next time, the scheduling officer should start booking matches at 3 A.M. so that they can finish at daybreak. This may seem bizarre, but certainly not to the former U.K. penal colony down under.

CRINGWORTHY interviewer, you are interviewing Learner Tien, turned 19 last month, went through qualifying, into the 3rd round of main draw after BEATING the #5 seed, former #1 in the world, US Open champion, in almost 5 hours, down in the 5th set tiebreaker....and he comes up with "19 year olds are not supposed to be that good." .... "I used to live in Newport Beach."....""that is the first time this year a 5 setter has gone to a super tiebreaker in the 5th set." (HELLO!!!!! It is the SECOND ROUND of the first 5 set event of the year!!!) "you don't know what to say to that do you?" (as a matter of fact, YOU don't know what to say!) Here let me stick my hand in front of the camera!

Do they announcers not understand that you should ask a question first before you stick the microphone in front of them? So weird. They did the same with Novak the other day when they stated his record breaking stat and just put the mic in his face without prompting a question, weird.
