waterfieldV I respect your opinion, but I don't agree. The two shows were about the same. They were both meaningful, "Captain Planet and the Planeteers" was more about calling upon a hero to save the day and working together with people from different corners of the world. Whereas "Widget the World Watcher", was more about an alien coming to befriend children to protect their planet. Unfortunately, those kids (Kevin, Brian, and Kristine) were not seen in every episode. Probably because they weren't titular characters, (referenced in the former's name). However, they were very much the same concept. I appreciate both shows for reaching out to children to help with the environment all over the world.

I've been typing boy with watch cartoon, on google so many times, and couldn't find it. Same as @Dellerss I have been searching for this for about 15-20 years. Been looking through my old tapes, with no luck. Today i tried to type in wiki "cartoons from 90's" and found a list expanding from 1950-2012, pressed ctrl+f typed "watch" found "widget the world WATCHer", didn't think it could be it, but pressed it any. and PUFF !I couldn't be more happy. So random. this made my day ! thanks so much.

its so much better than Captain Planet and The Planeteers its very rare that you see Aliens as the good guy in a cartoon or a children's television program. Widget, is by no means the first show to feature an alien as a good guy, but still.

I can't believe I finally found this. I have wondered for like the last ten years what the name of this show was. I remember seeing it on television in the early 90's, before I was in school age (I was born in '87). I just remembered channel and what time it was broadcasted (5.30 PM - can't believe I remembered that), and that the main character was purple and had some strange watch. I tried searching, but nothing came up until today. Really awesome to find it after about 20 years!

This show is AWESOME! I use to watch it when I was in Upper Elementary 5th Grade and 6th Grade! and I use to watch it on KALB-TV 5 and KLFY-TV 10 on Saturday Mornings right after Mr. Bogus. God Bless Russi Taylor for her excellent performance and this along w/Captain Planet were 2 of the most AWESOME Educational Cartoons that I've ever watched!

Hey, I remember this cartoon. I use to watch it on KALB-TV 5 and KLFY-TV 10. This show was so awesome, inspiring and educational, Disney TV Legends Russi Taylor (Strawberry Shortcake and Huey, Dewey and Louie) and Jim Cummings (Bonkers and Darkwing Duck) did an excellent job as the voices of Widget and Megabrain and the show was from the producer of Voltron and Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs and was also composed by Dale Schacker. God Bless Calico and the cast for a job well done.

The cartoon when you watch it carefully, had a very powerful message. It showed how it was messed that Widget, who wasn't born on Earth, had more love and care for our planet then someone born and bred in this planet. That went over a lot of people's heads.

This was a Weekday Morning Cartoon in New York, so you had to be on holiday or home sick to see it. When you were, you RARELY felt disappointed. Just the thought of a a shape-shifting alien with the voice of Gonzo from the Muppet Babies & an sci-fi based rock theme song was enough to make some kids skip school!

I actually just found it today, too. I was seven in '90, and couldn't remember the name of this little guy but have been trying to for years. All I could remember was the similarities between Widget and Captain Planet, lol. I actually ran onto this while searching for the director of "Denver, The Last Dinosaur" (TOM Burton... I thought the credits said TIM Burton. I was doubting it was seeing as how bright and upbeat the show was. Not Tim Burton's style.). I'm glad I found this!!!

This was my favourite show growing up. I have 10 episodes (but I want the full 65). This show is EXTREMELY hard to find. Been trying to find more for over 12 years. Had a dream the other night that I was channel-hopping and suddenly saw a "coming up soon" announcement that "Widget" would be on TV in an hour. I got up from the couch and started screaming (so hard that my Uncle thought I was in pain). I had to explain to him my reason for the outburst! Then I woke up from the dream. Shattered.
