I actually thought the Netflix version was entertaining, but I agree that everything about WIDM is better - the cast, the challenges, the production. @@MoleTracker You can tell the producers of WIDM think highly of their viewers. The challenges are complex and multi-layered and the cast is allowed to behave the way in which they want. Of course, this is season 23, so they have experience. I thought the producers of the US Netflix version thought extremely poorly of their viewers. Everything was basic, simplified and repeated as if we were elementary school children. The sabotages by the Mole were so overt and obvious it was embarrassing. Finally, the reveal was quite lame. Very anti-climactic. If they do bring it back, I hope they copy WIDM!

Marieke you absolute legend, thank you so much for getting this up so fast! . . . . . . . . . . No suspects yet but wanted to say that the pacing and editing this episode felt WAY more like Belgie than anything NL's done in recent years. The reveal of information in the first challenge, the second challenge basically being an expanded adaptation of a Belgie game, and even the first episode cliffhanger all SCREAM Belgie. Which hey, I'm down with that! If you're going to crib someone's notes, crib from the best. Maybe with a little more character development in between scenes (just a tad), this would have been better, but I thought this was a really strong episode all around! Thought both challenges were really good, and the latter distinguished itself from its Belgian source material just enough to be a new little twist on it.

I don't really have suspects yet, but I do want to say that I loved the challenges in the premiere. The opening one was epic, where the money was incredibly dependent on everyone working together. The second one had multiple layers. I was initially apprehensive because, let's face it, the choir was almost entirely black, so if the judge could have seen them it'd have been an easy win for him. Glad to see they ran it the way they did with his back turned. Plus, the twist at the end? Good stuff all around. The only thing I can think of as far as clues go is that Everon kept mentioning "poker face" and later on one of the songs was "Bad Romance". Those are both references to Lady Gaga. Maybe there's something there?

@@shahlatona6768 Yeah to me it seems like him 'mole-ing', it seemed deliberate to me. He said 'Bad romance!' with such certainty, but anyone who knows that song surely knows that there's no "bluffin' with my muffin' " line in there? And then he said 'The Beatles' to that line from Harry Styles' Watermelon Sugar, which I thought was a bit odd and far-fetched too. Yes The Beatles have a song with the word strawberry in it, but who would think of that? Everyone else instantly recognised it as Harry Styles. Maybe I'm looking into it too much but that's two answers he gave which were clearly wrong, and he came up with them super quickly, seeming very confident.

As a long-time Mol fan who has watched series from several other countries in addition to the Netherlands, the second assignment was familiar to me. I’m glad they chose to do it, though, and it was obviously a really cool experience for the contestants. I noticed some suspicious actions during both challenges, but my suspicions from the first episode are almost always completely wrong, so I would be extremely surprised if I actually picked up on any real Mol actions. Woot woot! Thanks Marieke! What a nice first episode this was! Spoilers below..... I liked the very first twist in the episode, of it being Everon spying on the contestants. Wasn't expecting it and a nice surprise. I have only a few thoughts surrounding this 'mini challenge', and one is that it almost looks like Jurre, Soy, and Sarah seem to know each other? Maybe not true but they seemed extra friendly to each other. Also, if Jurre is the mole he already deserves an Oscar for his reaction to the phone call. But most curious is that everyone is introduced with their name prior to the phone call with Everon...except for Ranomi. The first person to say her name is Everon. Coincidence? Perhaps. Only thing I caught during the intro is that there's some kind of noise that can be heard before the classic camera group shot that isn't usually there. An extra electronic beep and some clicking. What that means? Perhaps nothing, perhaps something. Can I say in general how nice it is to see challenges that can earn up to $4000? I don't know if it was to help set up a nice juicy pot for the end of the episode, but darn is it nice to see some higher stakes. First challenge, I love the escape room vibes, plus roping in the locals to help. The contestants shouting at strangers to come closer to the box made me chuckle. I love when the contestants have a good time with a challenge and you could tell they were enjoying it. I like this light-hearted bunch. But you see, I have a problem with this challenge. Does the mole try to get out as quickly as possible and leave the other groups in limbo so there's no chance that $4000 is earned? The old mole tactic of 'since money will likely be won in this challenge, minimize it'? Or is it the 'I refuse to earn any money, so we aren't getting out of the box' gambit? I think the latter in this particular case, if only because the two successful groups got to the right location with barely any time left (like 3 minutes), implying they stayed as late as they could before abandoning the other groups. The duos that seemed most suspicious to me this challenge were Daniel & Froukje, for getting out of their box but somehow not catching the memo that the others had already deduced the correct meeting place (and not even taking a wild stab at a guess to at least try to earn money), and Ranomi & Nabil, for literally they only had to do the bare minimum of escaping in order to earn money but couldn't even manage that. I argue Anke and Sander are close to being knocked off the suspect list, for they said they went to the vegetable garden following Jurre and Sarah's lead. If you're the mole, and you hear another team headed for the right location, surely you'd want to try to steer yourself away from another team's correct guess instead of following along blindly? Second challenge is a bit harder for me to discern. I originally thought the mole would want to be with the singers, in order to guarantee money isn't won (even if it's a small amount). However, Sander is decidedly not suspicious to me after his behavior in the first challenge. Jurre is more of a question mark for me. He seemed decidedly not suspicious with the 'Everon mini-challenge,' and was an extremely good communicator in the first challenge along with earning money. But he is supposed to be in musicals and fails this challenge. But but he had the forethought to write out the lyrics on his sheet to help himself and his fellow contestants....I don't know. To me it seems far more likely that the mole was with the musical ear group. The thing that sticks with me is we know they earn 13 out of 20 choir members. 3 points are certain from Annick's 2 point singing + Nabil's 1 point finger drumming. Only 10/15 points are earned with the other 3 challenges (iPad songs, lyric rearrangement, and fill-in-the-blanks), which seems exceptionally suspicious considering how confident they were. Thoughts on each contestant in that group: Daniel: What a time waster! Literally slows the group down with the decision-making process on which singer should be worth what amount. It takes them 15 minutes (?!?), a quarter of their time, to make this decision. This should not have taken this long. And he makes it seem so contestant-like too. Sus as hell. And then when Annick is holding her note, tells everyone to shut up and watch. More time wasting. Also has no qualms about writing down Nabil's bad Bad Romance answer. He seemed a bit of a ring-leader in this challenge and wasted a ton of time and resources in general. Why did all 5 of them need to work on the iPad songs? And shushes the lot again at the lyric rearrangement challenge. And has his fingers in 3 & 1/2 of the 5 challenges in general. And always holding the pen when an answer must be written down. I've got my eye on him. Annick: For the flack she gets (arguably deserves) for not holding a note for 15 seconds, she still solo earns 2 choir members in that task. Production is definitely trying to make her look suspicious. I don't think she's the mole. Nabil: Offers a bad answer to a Lady Gaga song. Correct answer should have been Poker Face, which most observant viewers already caught ties into the beginning of the episode. Tries to give a bad Beatles answer, but corrected by most of the group. Seems to try to play dumb. Reasonably competent with the finger drumming. I'm not sure of him just yet. Ranomi: Quiet. Too quiet. How easy it could be for the mole, after three challenges are completed in the first room, to subtly sneak back into the room (or linger behind while everyone moves on to the next room) and mess with the board they had worked on to turn a correct answer into a bad one? Seriously, I didn't even see her in the second room participating. Also didn't help or contribute AT ALL except for 1 of 5 challenges. Maybe she's just not that into music and thus took a backseat this challenge...or maybe she's playing us all. Froukje: Seems too earnest. Had her hands in several of the challenges. I don't think it's her. Unrelated, but I love how earnestly Sarah loved this challenge. And I love how the singing contestants somehow got the choreography down in the hour too (even when the judge wouldn't be able to see them). And the most unrelated comment of the episode, but what on earth is Daniel doing at 51:20? Why is he watching his fellow group members rather than the singers? He seems super restless and chatty rather than eager to watch the singers and I don't know what he's up to. Majorly sad about the elimination...but maybe they'll be back next week? One of the rare instances where I won't be sad to have an eliminated contestant back in the game because I loved them so much. I'm already really looking forward to this batch of contestants' future interactions. Some seem genuinely competent or like they've seen the show before which is always nice. I also think there's a lot of good mole options. Soy could be a great innocent-looking, win the group over with boyish charm and stab them in the back mole. Ranomi could be a fantastic sporty female mole (does she have the acting chops to pull it off though?). Froukje, with her stone-cold stare down after her phone call with Everon, could redeem the older female mole archetype (darn you Renee for making me despise them). Daniel could play a great serious, diligent mole. I mean at this point the only one who would disappoint me as mole thus far would be Annick (way too obvious and obnoxious about the sabotages). Main suspects are Ranomi, Daniel, and Nabil, but far too early to fall into a tunnel.
@windfallsofdreams Жыл бұрын
What a thorough analysis! You definitely picked up on some things that I didn’t notice, particularly with Daniel. I will have to watch the episode a second time. Daniel and Nabil did stand out to me as being a little suspicious, but so did Jurre, actually. It’s kind of hard to explain, but sometimes it seemed to me like Jurre was trying to come across as a good communicator/a contestant that was trying really hard to get things right, when actually he was doing a lot of interrupting. Like in the second challenge, he was asking so many little nit-picking questions, at one point even interrupting as Sander was singing a line with a choir member. He also asked the same question multiple times. And he kind of did the same thing in the first challenge as well. The group had just made the decision to take turns asking questions in an orderly fashion, and then he interrupted almost immediately. I don’t know if it was necessarily a mole action though, or if he is just someone who is talkative like that during assignments. Some of the things that Nabil did seem a little too obvious to me, like he is messing around just to make people think he is acting suspiciously. Like when he was (correctly) reciting the lyrics to Poker Face, but then called it Bad Romance. I believe he was also the one in the first challenge who saw a person in a yellow vest outside his box, and decided that therefore his box color must be yellow? (I’m not 100% sure that it was Nabil who said that, I might not be remembering correctly). That’s something that a pretend Mole would do imo. I think that the large amounts of money available during the first 2 challenges (and the fact that Rik has not given the money to the group yet) definitely have to do with what happened at the end of the episode. It will be interesting to see how that whole situation plays out.

@@windfallsofdreams Thanks! This and the Belgian version are my favorite obsession; I love watching them! I usually watch the episode for funsies first and then rewatch to analyze before posting to help catch things I didn't notice on the first go around. I've definitely still got my eye on Jurre. He just did so well in the first challenge to earn money (and acted so relieved on his phone call with Everon) that I don't have him in my top 3 (for now). I can't decide if Nabil is being purposefully dense/moley (it was indeed him that thought their box was yellow just because he spotted a guy in a yellow vest), if it's just first challenge jitters, or if he's just that way naturally. I'm still on the fence with Daniel. I kinda think he may just be a paranoid quirky guy, but it'll take a few episodes to flesh him out I think. Ranomi is my lead suspect for now (she had a enviable position in the first task--being paired with Nabil who may not be the brightest bulb in the pack and being at the one location that doesn't have to travel--and she did so little and was seldom-seen in the second task), and Anke, Sander, and Annick are all at the bottom of my suspect list. Sarah will be at the very bottom of the list if she re-enters the game (I don't think the mole makes themself the center of attention with a come-back-in-the-game stunt this early in the season).
@thefuzzyoranges Жыл бұрын
@@martijnf4869 I think it would be very interesting if this is the case. Do Soy and Jurre (and Sarah if she re-enters the game) form a bond since they're already friendly? If one of them is the mole, how much harder will it be to fool the two that already know you? I guess it depends on how well they know each other.
@stygian6642 Жыл бұрын
Your analysis of Daniel is interesting to me, because he isn't suspicious to me at all. Like telling everyone to shut up while Annick was holding a note (he did not tell them to watch) made complete sense to me, because talking through that might disturb her focus and it's only for 15 seconds max. When he shushes the lot at the lyric rearrangement, he sends half the group off to the next challenge while he absolutely nails the lyric rearranging. He really seems like a haantje-de-voorste who's trying not to take over completely. Honestly, I probably don't find him suspicious because he's an ADHD mood. These are all things I would've done, including restlessly watching my fellow spectators instead of the choir.

Woohoo! Thanks Marieke. Going to post theories below with asterisks for very mild spoilers for those who haven't seen the episode yet... * * * I feel like at this point it's safe enough to rule out a few people. Annoyingly, given my "it's time for a run of female Moles" theory, most of them are women. I feel like Anke might be a candidate who makes it some way through but isn't actually the Mole. Her first confessional seemed to provide a very candidate-like reaction. I'm questioning Soy but it would've been so easy to fail that singing challenge by just mis-pronouncing a word. I'm not feeling the Froujke suspicions either. Anniek just seems like a bit too much of an outsider. As to the first challenge... it's so difficult to judge what the Mole would've done there. Get out early and leave the others with less information to stop that pot being doubled, or try and stay in to make sure that the last E2000 weren't earned? I think I would've played it by ear and, if it looked as though my team would have to leave early, made sure I set them off as soon as possible to deny information to the others. That leaves an awful lot of suspects there. I feel like the person who left might've been a real asset in challenges going forward, based on their performance in both of the ones so far, and was a really interesting personality as well. Will they actually get a chance to return? Guess we'll see next week... personally I'm kinda hoping they make it.

I had very little expectations so at first I thought ok, this isn't too bad. But then it got worse and it never recovered. I'll stick to WIDM and De Mol

47:23 laughing so hard right now. I wonder if they're going to play the finger drum version at the end of the episode.

Ah thanks for the heads up. It's fixed. I accidentally added a dot after so the link didn't take.

Top Suspects: . . . . . . . . . Soy is my number one right now. Especially with his behavior after the execution. Second suspect is Sander

The first ten minutes of a season always take me at least half an hour to get through, as I keep pausing to write down names and appearances and jobs. They do _not_ give it to you straight, you really have to work for it. (Or I could just check out the list of candidates on the site, but where's the fun in that?)

This episode is very exciting although even though the production tried to edit the best, the mole is kinda obvious :(

Once again, thanks sooo much for uploading! I gotta say though…this was the worst Wie is de Mol episode I have ever seen. And I’ve seen every episode since 1999. I can handle a little bit of cringe in Wie is de Mol, but this embarrassingly bad.

Did you see the US Netflix version? That entire season was cringe to its core! This episode was 1000x better.
