You're living in ignorance. Rape of female prisoners is allowed (verse 4:24). You are allowed to beat your wife even if you think she might disobey you (verse 4:34). You need 2 female witnesses in court compared to 1 male witness. Women get half inheritance that men get. It's a misogynist religion. Read the Quran and hadith. I cannot think of Almighty God Allah actually giving men permission to beat their wives (or any woman, for that matter). Prophet Muhammad (Allah's Peace and Blessings be upon him) never, ever beat any woman. Mufti Menk gave an excellent explanation on the issue of wife beating. However, if the Prophet were here among us, he would give the best explanation of the verse. Hands down! No argument there! I highly recommend that people go on the internet and look up the article, "The Verse of Abuse Or the Abused Verse" by Sheikh Sa'dullah Khan. The last time I checked, he was the Director of the Islamic Center of Irvine.

The Arabic word ضرب daraba has 26 different meanings. Several meanings are to avoid, to forsake, to leave or to ignore and have nothing to do with. He said, "hitting with a siwak and alike" (At-Tabari Tafsir of Quran 4:34) go ahead and google what a siwak is and take a look at the images. how about the prophet himself saying that its a 'strike' that doesn't cause harm, leave a mark, or hit the face? (Sunan Ibn Majah 1851, Sunan Abi Dawud 4493) what type of a 'strike' is this? the issue is that we have a certain english connotation with the word 'strike' which is not reflected in the arabic. thats why we use context to understand words. and remember this is the maximum a husband can do to his wife that is committing Fahishah (clear indecency/wrongdoing and immoralities) your issue seems to be with the word 'strike', and you are correct in that its used in the ayat for striking necks in war, but its also used for tapping the ground, as the speaker mentioned in this video, and also used in the Quran as metaphor to strike an example (Quran 17:48). the point is that the meaning of words is understood in its context - thats how language works (this is very common in english homonyms, e.g bat(animal) vs bat(baseball)) the companions and the prophet himself explained what this word means, and that is the classical explanation that muslims hold to. anyways, you are asking the right questions. i truly hope that god guides me and you, and i firmly believe if you sincerely look into Islam - you will find the truth.

Al-Baqara (2:285) "اٰمَنَ الرَّسُوۡلُ بِمَاۤ اُنۡزِلَ اِلَيۡهِ مِنۡ رَّبِّهٖ وَ الۡمُؤۡمِنُوۡنَؕ كُلٌّ اٰمَنَ بِاللّٰهِ وَمَلٰٓٮِٕكَتِهٖ وَكُتُبِهٖ وَرُسُلِهٖ ۚ لَا نُفَرِّقُ بَيۡنَ اَحَدٍ مِّنۡ رُّسُلِهٖ ۚ وَقَالُوۡا سَمِعۡنَا وَاَطَعۡنَا ۖ غُفۡرَانَكَ رَبَّنَا وَاِلَيۡكَ الۡمَصِيۡرُ" (285) "Amana alrrasoolu bima onzila ilayhi min rabbihi waalmuminoona kullun amana biAllahi wamalaikatihi wakutubihi warusulihi la nufarriqu bayna ahadin min rusulihi waqaloo samiAAna waataAAna ghufranaka rabbana wailayka almaseeru" Translation: "The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and [so have] the believers. All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers, [saying], "We make no distinction between any of His messengers." And they say, "We hear and we obey. [We seek] Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination." *. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people." 3. Dua from Surah Al-A'raf [7] : (56) "وَلَا تُفْسِدُوْا فِى الْاَرْضِ بَعْدَ اِصْلَاحِهَا وَادْعُوْهُ خَوْفًا وَّطَمَعًاۗ اِنَّ رَحْمَتَ اللّٰهِ قَرِيْبٌ مِّنَ الْمُحْسِنِيْنَ." Quran in 11;71 - used the word "Imra'ah" with regards to Abraham's wife. But in 04:34, it is not the case! The word Nisak is used, showing the verse is with regards to all WOMEN in general, whom men are to protect their rights, can be one's mother, sisters, aunties as mention in 04:23, OR any free women as mention in 04:24 OR any women your right hands possess as mention in 04:25! 1

First of all mufti assumed that this verse means issues such unruly misbehaving, evil things or bad characteristics who is to say which issue requires this to be used.
