The husband is a lowdown snake for using their children to manipulate his wife. It's so typically selfish of him that he doesn't cater how he hurts his children as long as he gets his way.

He's beyond despicable, using his children for his sick manipulation game with his wife. Who does that? Using the children as pawns in a twisted, pathetic, emotional assault he orchestrates and launches so his wife doesn't leave him and take the kids. While the oldest son shows a maturity level far above his own father for his age, he also is feeling ignored by and invisible to both parents. The younger boy gets most of the attention because he is younger, but the older boy still appears to be preteen when he needs just as much attention and emotional support, but both parents seem to be demanding more of him in their own insecurities right now. The little one cries when he's needing an emotional connection and comforting and the older son shuts down and becomes distant. The parents react to the younger with comfort and gentleness but scold and blame the older one. No wonder the older boy wants them to divorce rather than live in an unhappy home.
