Older Disney films weren’t that prone to visual gags and outright jokes. They generally played things pretty straight, maybe with a touch of slapstick here and there but only from the side characters. Every character, even the main ones, crack jokes and are part of visual gags. There aren’t any 4th wall breaks except from Allen O’Dale, but it’s the closest that Disney got to straight up copying the Looney Tunes in a feature film. There’s so much humor packed into its short runtime.

Watch BREADSWORD’s Tintin retrospective. It is, in my opinion, one of the BEST on ANY TOPIC. Also, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! WATCH ROBIN HOOD!

21:45 It's got nothing to do with language, Snowwhite came out in 1937, Sleeping Beauty came out *_22 years_* later, in 1959.

The Road to El Dorado one is BREADSWORD's best, for the very least, without it, I would never have known it was a spiritual sibling of the Road To series of vintage comedy films, or how interesting its production was.

Rotoscoping is one of the oldest forms of animation. It does have a bit of a bad reputation but, it's a reliable way to animate characters mimicking real life movements & can actually look really good. Many disney films viewed as classics today used it at least a little bit, if not for the entire animation process.

OSP does a really good deep dive on the character, and evolution, of Robin Hood. Highly recommended. EDIT: And, yes, you really should watch Disney's Robin Hood, it's great.

BREADSWORD is one of the best, hands down. The Scooby Doo Movie countdown is absolutely made of distilled pandemic cabin fever vibes and is great, but the TinTin one is how I got hooked. Added bonus, they have one of the smoothest voices and delivery in the business, so if the editing is distracting you can absolutely just listen on headphones while accomplishing something.

Thanks for this. Breadsword is great, though I haven't found time to complete their archive. _'Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro Is a Perfect Movie, and Here's Why'_ was the 1st I saw.

4:34 "I don't recognize many of those!" Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (Or, at risk of dating myself, Warriors of the Wind) was the two people staring up at the golden bit, then World of Warcraft (Anduin Wrynn's grown up), then...I don't rightly know, there were so many egypt-inspired films from that era of hollywood, then Steamboy.

I love Breadsword especially this video by him. He hits the nail on the head how modern adaptations completely miss the point of the legend and the mythos surrounding him by thinking they need to go dark, gritty, mean, and have our hero match that.

19:00 The "main" reason Snider got Superman, despite his whole "It's a stupid concept and people who like it are idiots" take, was that he helmed the Watchmen movie, which made money, but was considered a travesty of an adaptation: things like glorifying a vigilante serially killer, who melted off cops faces. Basically inverts the moral of the subversive superhero deconstruction, because heroes need to punch "bad"-guys. He also insisted that Doctor Manhattan be given a giant blue pensi ... so, yeah, killing Superman's best friend and that, his priorities.
