@NylaTheWolf tbh, I think the movie didn't need a romance subplot, so I agree more with this view. But since it was inevitable they were going to shove a romance in there, I'd say having Delgado be the love interest would have been a lot more interesting and satisfying, and the pairing that makes the most sense!

as a child, the rose petal scene in the 2nd movie completely re-contextualized the way i viewed love. when chloe was eliminated from the dog show, papi was not angry at her or the judges, he was committed to make them view her the same way he did. he might've upset mr. mckibble and quite possibly ruined the runway/stage, but he did not do it out of rage or ill-intent, papi simply loved her so much, he couldn't stand the idea that someone could see a flaw in her and he made it his mission to fix that. and as a child who saw little more than anger in the ones who were supposed to love me, it meant everything to me. i truly believe beverly hills chihuahua shaped me into the person i am today and i am forever thankful, no matter how shitty the series actually is

@@ghostsontrains7629 it might make you feel a little better to know they were only really eaten by the elites as a delicacy, so for the non elites they were commonly kept as pest control and heating pads, also since meat wasn’t a big of their diet :) There’s a lot of speculation that the Spanish accounts of fat little dogs that they ate could have been them mistaking possums for dogs since they mentioned them being mute and not barking, but if the mute creatures were dogs it’s likely the famous chihuahua “yap” really comes from crossbreeding with European dog breeds. The modern chihuahua is almost entirely European, having little ties to their mesoamerican ancestors, but I’m just glad we have the adorable little rascals to love now.

I know it's just a movie about dogs but I feel like Chloe represents what Mexicans think Mexican Americans are like or at least what they think we think we are like, especially if you're a 3rd 4th 5th etc generation. Ofc it's not always true but growing up I did see fellow chicano peers loose connection with their culture and identity. Really the only way you would tell they are Hispanic is their last name and some select features. Today it can come from insecurity that you'll never be "latino enough" so why even try, but back in times of segregation and the country's attempt to whitewash many immigrants and Hispanic Americans would purposely choose to separate themselves from their cultural identity to fit in and overall survive. And yes there were ones who believed they were better then their immigrant relatives because of their American nationality and would try to be and act as white as possible (including changing their names to something English American) and passed that onto their children who passed it to theirs (the generational trauma is realll) And this isn't exclusive to Latinos as anyone who is an American with immigrant family will understand the pressure of their preconceived notions that you're American so you'll never understand the struggle or the culture like someone from the motherland would.

also i will add to counter your point about a dog caring more about being in your house than being with you, there are numerous accounts of dogs desperately loving and missing their owners so much, that they'll continue to run after the car of their owner who heartlessly dumped them in the middle of nowhere, that they'll wait in the same place every day until their owner returns from work (heard of many stories like this, but the most famous is of the dog Hachi), and that often in vet offices when they put down a dog (whether due to old age or illnesses) that sometimes the family will leave and the vet has to call them to come back because their dog has fought through the euthanasia and is still alive and looking for them and has to be euthanized a second time and will likely go quieter if the family is there to comfort them and say goodbyes. dogs desperately and devotedly love their owners, and in too many cases deserve much better than we give them. i have no doubt that a dog lost in another country isn't just missing the house it lives in, but its owner specifically. they can experience depression and anxiety when their owners die, or even just when they leave for a vacation. so obviously dogs aren't on the same level of depth as humans, but dogs do still have a lot of love in their hearts!

8:20 this characteristic of her character is realistic, my cat escaped from the house two years ago she was out for a week and a half and we found her somewhere close to the house and she’s never try to get out again and I can tell her from the way she acts and treats us she knows she’s safe here and she needs us to survive but she isn’t an overly affectionate cat unless she actually wants the affection in that moment, if you try to cuddle her and she doesn’t come to you first she’ll squirm and then run down the hall

dude, first the buddies, now beverly hills chihuahua? bro is combing through my childhood for content and i'm down for it eta: i love your videos, and am loving this one, but i do have a criticism that you think money/mortgage/eviction are stakes that are incomprehensible to a child. it comes across as a little privileged and a little condescending to think that there aren't a ton of children who understand what bills are and that not being homeless costs money. most kids aren't dumb, and many come from families where being shielded from that knowledge is impossible. very faboo channel though please continue eta eta: when i was a kid i thought the chef guy was gordon ramsay. surprised to find out gordon ramsay is not in beverly hills chihuahua 3 eta eta eta: i always wondered why rosa is the one that gets a quince when her sisters are the same age as her... favorite child much?

the money issues being known to a child is very true! some parents will outright complain to their children, but also, it’s a real threat to lower income families and that’s not something you can really hide from children. kids are very observant and catch a lot of things. at the very least, they can tell when their parents get stressed opening the mail, or how at the end of the month, they’re only eating bologna sandwiches.

Hes also saying it cause of the trauma he got too. Idk i thought i should explain idk.

14:46 i think another interpretation of the piñata-stick metaphor is “where there is luxury, there is violence to earn and covet it”. he’s worried about being beaten for not belonging (like how drew barrymore keeps getting kicked out for being dirty and poor-looking) and also you need to hit a piñata to get stuff. like how jamie lee curtis’ luxury depends on the probably underpaid labor of workers who she treats poorly. the stick is a metaphor for the police essentially .. and the systems that keep poor people poor …

@@reina8284 Well yeah, but people argue that the main reason for them being together is that the studio wanted two chihuahuas so that if they made a second movie they'd be able to have puppies. Im arguing that they could have easily written a plot around this issue, and that the 'well they couldn't have puppies so no second movie' is a dumb argument. The real reason is that a chihuahua couple is more marketable, Geoge Lopez dog is more marketable (why do u think he's front seat on all the movie promotion), and all kids media must have couples of the same breed/species for some reason

31:30 made me realize that we were struggling financially a lot more than I originally thought. When I was watching the second one I was worried about the house, them losing everything and having to stay in their car, or a hotel, or at some shelter in town and I genuinely was upset about it. Then I remembered the big mansion the dogs live in and they could just live with them. Like I didn't know what a mortgage is or bank statements, but I knew they were gonna lose the house from not paying on time. Welp, I still love all these movies, sappy and corny but amazing

39:20 thats also dumb because being purebred and being found on the street/a stray arent mutually exclusive, i know people who adopted a dog from a shelter and after getting him dna tested found out he was 100% purebred great pyrenees. like sure finding a dog on the street means you dont know which breeder they came from, you dont have any paperwork legitimizing their status, but it doesnt unequivocally mean that he absolutely is not a purebred dog, just that you'd need to do some testing to find out.

12:36 In this situation, Chloe might get home faster but it’s not guaranteed. Since she wears a diamond necklace instead of a collar with the dog’s name and the owner’s phone number, there’s no way of knowing that the villains would call the right number. If they’re looking for a quick buck, they would more likely sell her to the black market.

I got a response back from Disney saying they don't take suggestions for movies and poor elementary school kid me was DEVASTATED. So imagine my surprise when years later I saw that there was a direct-to-DVD sequel. I still maintain to this day that I planted the seed and I'm the reason the franchise even continued.

15:24 i would actually disagree that dogs cant act! they definitely can and it can be beautiful. and even showing emotions, dogs literally evolved to have "eyebrow" muscles SPECIFICALLY for showing emotions to their humans in a way we would understand. showing that clip of del gado without his internal dialogue, it does actually give the unspoken feeling you were talking about. this is why plenty of sappy emotional and beloved dog focused movies have minimal or NO dialogue. because dogs, and the framing around them, can successfully convey feelings.
