My GF stared at me in disbelief when I bought a bunch of ethernet cable and an additional router to split the connection. I literally drilled my way from my office from where the modem was installed to our gaming room. She thought I was tripping because we could play "just fine" but she quickly realized that some of her sporadic DCs were due to dropped packets. Some games are very forgiving with this, especially if they have good netcode, but some games are notorious for being very sensitive to packet loss and will make your gameplay a jankfest or will flat out DC you. If your modem is far from your gaming devices it might seem like a hassle to pass wire through walls as this is more laborious than expensive, but it will depend on how much you game if the increased quality of life is worth the extra work for you. For me, it totally was.

Nice technique for gauging network performance! I would suggest that, before making a blanket statement, maybe see if your own Wi-Fi is optimal? I used your technique for testing my Wi-Fi connection and capped out at a maximum latency of 4ms, with the vast majority at 1ms. When considering a conservative 50ms as tolerable latency, this is an extremely moderate 2% threshold for which I would be hard pressed to find an observable difference between hardwired or not. Taking it further, console gaming raises the threshold to 100ms or more... Just sayin, maybe it's worth more than a 3 min video on KZbin to come to any conclusions.

In my case wifi speed is faster than my ethernet, I get 1100mbps down and 40 up on my gaming pc and my latency is lower than ethernet, due to me having a wifi 6e router and network adapter. So I think it really depends on how good your router is and what your clients support.
@TurboSpeedWiFi7 ай бұрын
True, having a WiFi 6e router will help and can offer a theoretically faster speed than gigabit ethernet. Based on my 10 years as a network admin, what ethernet gets you is stability and reliability. WiFi can be good for one minute, unstable for the next, and good for the next due to the nature of using unlicensed wireless spectrum for communication. I guess I could care less if I get more than 950 Mbps for a home network, and if I needed more, 2.5 Gbps and 10 Gbps ethernet are also available and would obliterate the speeds of WiFi 6e.

Wireless was never designed for ping sensitive applications. The way that WiFi works is half-duplex. Your device cannot send and receive data at the same time but rather switches back and forth. WiFi also can only have one device transmitting at a time per channel. If you have multiple devices connected they all have to wait their turn. Granted, modern WiFi does a reasonably good job of minimizing these issues with technologies including OFDMA and Mu-MIMO, but WiFi was never intended for ultra low ping applications and it still holds true today.

Assuming both providers are using the same type of technology, the next best thing to do is to ask around, ask on local forums, etc. It really does vary from region to region. If I’m using Ethernet on my ps4, can other people in house use the internet wireless?
@TurboSpeedWiFi2 жыл бұрын
@@cash9140 Absolutely. In fact by using ethernet you will get the best connection possible and will also keep the wireless RF spectrum free for other people to get the best connection possible.

@TurboSpeedWiFi11 ай бұрын
@issaelynuma900111 ай бұрын
Y nunca he tenido problemas de lag.

@issaelynuma900111 ай бұрын
@TurboSpeedWiFi11 ай бұрын

Would you choose low isp wired speed (less than a hundred) or high isp wifi speed ( over one thousand.).

It depends on what I was doing. For gaming wired 100% of the time. For downloading large files, whatever is fastest.

@@TurboSpeedWiFi personally. My only issue is that their lines aren't dedicated. Speeds be all over the place. Att has steady speeds but unfortunately it's a low speed. If we had fiber in my area, it'd be no competition.

@@YOGA47 It should matter less. However, it is impossible to say for sure. If you have lots of neighbors with WiFi networks and they are crowding up the air you could experience issues. However, the shorter range minimizes the impacts.

The only IP addresses I show in the video are private IP addresses. IP addresses in the 192.168.X.X, 172.16.X.X - 172 31.X.X, and 10.X.X.X ranges are not publicly routable. Check the IP address of any device connected to your router and you will almost certainly have an IP address in one of these ranges. These IP addresses are used over and over again by billions of people across the world. Your public IP address that your ISP assigns you is globally unique. Your private IP address is not. I would be willing to be that 50% of the people reading this comment have a router using 192.168.1.1. Anyone who feels the need to blur out a private IP address clearly doesn't understand how IP addresses work.

@Sick-Of-It-All2 жыл бұрын
WTF? ANYTHING more than 1ms (MAYBE a sporadic 2ms here or there) to/from a client/router on the same network and your either in the back yard, your router and/or adapter suck or you have network issues? Period. While inconsistency still allows a LAN connection a slight advantage, the average gamer couldn't tell the difference. I get 228 Mbps/Down & 11.4 Mbps/ Up from a 200/10 Broadband Connection via Wi-Fi w/ a solid 1ms ping to/from PC/Router! And that's using a 7 year old Linksys 6350 router!!! FYI: unless your using a Multi-Gig input or port aggregation Wi-Fi surpassed your Gigabit LAN connection a long time ago. Get with the times or pretty soon your going to find you and your Gigabit LAN got left behind.
@TurboSpeedWiFi2 жыл бұрын
Not true. Gigabit LAN is faster than 99% of real world Wi-Fi 6 deployments. As far as ping goes it is largely dependent on how many competing Wi-Fi networks are in the area. The RF environment where I live is quite noisy.
@qazwsxzwharp2 жыл бұрын
Wi-Fi 6 is not faster than gigabit ethernet in anything other than lab conditions.
