This illustrates what my gripe is with chrome plated pliers - the crome adds quite a thick layer of material and therefor dulls cutters and teeth making them way less effective. Granted, this isn't detrimental to all kinds of pliers, pliers wrenches and needle nose pliers for example gain more from the corrosion resistance than they loose imo, but with most gripping and cutting pliers I just hate chrome plating. Being an electrician I've had quite a few side cutters over the years and Wiha is ranked #2 for me. They hold up relatively well, good hard steel and decent joint rivets. My #1 is Knipex, although the joints are more consistent with the raw steel pliers vs. chrome. Many others did worse, Gedore has bad joints (develop a lot of play quickly) and fairly soft edges, Haupa are super soft, Cimco require break-in and the edge hardness is mediocre.

I had a set of these. I loved them. I got a knipex set for Christmas. I'm gonna tell you I really did not see a difference in quality. They were just as good as my new knipex 8 inch set. If this knipex set wasnt a gift id never got it., id be just as happy with my Wiha set. The review is right you can get a top quality set for less money with Wiha.
