When I heard this for the first time a wave of pure nostalgia hit me hard, I grew up with Mario Kart Wii and Maple Treeway was one of my favorite tracks. I was so happy to see it return and even more so to know it was done justice

I think it all comes down to preference, and nothing more. I like this rendition of Maple Treeway, but I still prefer how the instruments sound in the original version, and this is coming from someone who LOVES acoustic music. Even though it’s midi based, the original version has a deeper, richer baseline, more pronounced harp strings, and bongos (I believe that’s what is is), which sounds like it’s completely missing from the new version. Again, it’s just a preference thing. It’s still a beauty to listen to.

Sure, but it's perfectly possible to remaster a song without changing its core identity. Take, for instance, literally this song. All the instruments in Maple Treeway were redone and it was stylized more, and yet it still sounds true to the original. Mushroom Gorge received ONE (1) instrument, otherwise they straight up just ported the same song. I'm willing to bet that if Gorge received the same remastered treatment that this, Moo Moo Meadows, and all the other wii and other tracks received, then then exact same people who claim "Oh you can't change perfection" would be praising the composers for how much better the new Mushroom Gorge remaster is. Or, imagine it the other way around. What if Maple Treeway wasn't changed at all, and all they added was, say, a stringed baseline. The same people who are adoring this remix would say "I'm glad they didn't change it, you can't change perfection!" ...and yet in this case, they clearly did. If you take a step back and imagine what could've been, it isn't that hard to imagine how people would react given how they have reacted to such things in the past.
