I wondered what other costumes for the Miis when we can might add with the other amiibos that we haven't saw in the trailer yet like Marth, Ness, Zelda, Pikachu, Shulk, Ike, and other characters to see what they'll look like in Mario Kart 8.

That could be a possibility when Animal Crossing x Mario Kart 8 arrives. I can sense expanded amiibo functionality for gaining more racing suits happening when Animal Crossing x Mario Kart 8. As for the characters you've mentioned, like Marth, Ness, Zelda, Pikachu, Shulk, and Ike, or characters like the Villager(obvious choice since it's ANIMAL CROSSING X Mario Kart 8), heck maybe even the Wii Fit Trainer amiibos could be possible. A Kirby amiibo can be used, and Kirby's not even first-party(He's second-party), so those characters are possible.

So we get the Blue Falcon, Mute City as a course, but no Captain Falcon to play as. Instead we've got two MORE variants of Mario and Peach. Makes sense... Beyond having cool figures of Nintendo characters, Amiibo isn't really impressing me here. They should let you play as the character themselves in whatever game they're compatible in.

Having Captain Falcon as a playable character would be a bad thing for F-Zero. Think about it. Having the only iconic character of a racing game that hasn't seen a release in years become playable in another, more popular racer would make it seem like Nintendo has given up on the F-Zero franchise, no?

If nintendo really want to sell these they need to find interesting ways to incorporate them into games like how it is being used with super smash brothers! Tiny bonuses like an extra costume isn't really going to make people want to buy these.

Amiibos work across Mario Kart and Smash. Therefore if you buy one figurine it will work across a load of different games. Sure the costumes in and of themselves might not be enough to make you buy an amiibo, but when you consider that with one purchase you get the costumes, Smash functionality as well as all sorts of bonuses later down the line it makes them worth the purchase.

Except that they were able to do that with Smash because these were being developed at the same time as Smash. Mario Kart 8 was already released by then. It was probably quicker to develop in time to limit it to just being able to scan in costumes. Considering future games down the line are supposed to be compatible w/ these things, it's likely that future games will have functionality similar to Smash.

You've got to remember though so far we have only seen footage for games that came before the amiibo's did, so they won't have as much content as the games in the future will have.

Here my better idea for using amiibos in mario kart 8:While being in race and placing the amiibo on your game pad you will get the special item based on each character but you can use a amiibo power only one time per race. List for abilities: (mostly based on ssb) Mario:Fireball Luigi:That missle attack Pacman: Turn into pacman and chomp enemies donkey kong:Big banana peel capitain falcon:falcon punch more coming soon

Looks like Captain Falcon will be added to my Amiibo collection along with Kirby, Sonic, and Duck Hunt Dog. I might also get Pacman Megaman and Shulk Amiibo's to have those costumes in the game. But the Costumes alone aren't enough to get me to buy every Amiibo. I hope Sonic Mii will look as good as Captain Falcon Mii in the game. I hope the Bowser Jr. Mii won't be the closest thing we get to Bowser Jr. in this game. Game and Watch Mii is going to look weird when its Amiibo figures come out.

No, but before the Direct, it was already known that the amiibos for Kirby, Captain Falcon, etc. were compatible with Mario Kart 8. A lot of people, myself included, assumed that this using those amiibos would unlock those characters in the game.

It doesn't really influence me.They feel like skins rather than full handcrafted costumes. (why can't I wear a tunic or Power Suit?) They had a lot of potential for amiibo use, but this just kinda sucks. :p

No, you don't have to touch it to the GamePad every time you want to wear a costume, it automatically saves the costume as you could see in the video.
