I love how the Koopalings are presented recently. First, they make a surprise comeback in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, then they become playable in Mario Kart 8, Smash 4, and the Rio Olympics, and now they get more speaking roles in Paper Jam and Color Splash to give more personality to them. The Koopalings are here to stay, and I love that! It was worth being a fan of them since 2002.

Things I noticed: Mario does a wheelie at 0:10, wheelies confirmed. at 0:13, racing on a round track, clock face in the background. DS "Tick Tock Clock" confirmed. Items are held in players hands first instead of dragged behind kart. DK Jungle from Mario Kart 7 comes back as noted by those giant screaming stones at 0:22. Also, it has a revamped anti-gravity portion at 0:43. At 0:31 there is a SNES course but with an anti-gravity slanted portion. There are numerous Super Mario Sunshine themed things, so its possible that Delfino Island is a setting. (Also, Nintendo could be hinting at a SMS HD remake). At 1:08 and 1:45 it looks like this could be Grumble Volcano from MKWii. As for graphics: I'm noticing realistic lighting on every surface with reflections that move as the karts progress through the tracks. I'm seeing dirt accumulate in the tires of the karts as they drive in offroad portions. Karts leave realistic shadows now that move dynamically as they change their orientation from a light source. I see an increased draw distance with a field-of-view blurring effect that looks quite nice and very cinematic. As far as I can tell there is no anti-aliasing, but Nintendo is only uploading in 720p so it's hard to tell. Also, the number of polygons that characters are made out of has increased significantly from MKWii/MK7.

I believe in the last trailer, Mario held a shell on the back of his kart, so that might mean that you can choose to hold on to items or not.
