I get upset when people say this isn't the same without Jay Bennett. This is the greatest Wilco lineup ever. Jay was a drug addict who did weird shit so people thought he was a genius

Lots of great artists and philosophers throughout history were drug addicts. Jeff struggled with addiction too. Drugs don't turn an average talent into a great one, but they can certainly make a person unbearable to be around. Jay was great at coming up with unique and complex instrument arrangements and sound layering, thinking outside the box of straightforward rock/alt country. The process of curating every second of sound in a song is incredibly tedious, and ultimately destructive, when two strong personalities (under the influence of drugs) have opposing ideas. After Jay left, Wilco transitioned into a more straightforward rock group. Jeff seems to prefer getting as many ideas out as possible as opposed to creating huge overdubbing projects. He found what keeps him happy.
