Daniel (Danny) Johnston was my childhood chum. It makes me sad to see how he is only a fraction of the person I knew as a teenager. I remember playing his songs and me strumming along on my guitar. Mental illness sucks. I wish I could bring my friend back the way he was all those years ago. I would sit next to him at his piano in his parents basement. His mother would make us lunch. I have a lot of memories of him. I remember those days like it was yesterday. Wilco did a great job on this song.

It’s ok to cry. I didn’t realize that I knew a lot of Daniels songs. I’m 48 . NPR had his tiny desk concert on my feed and I listened to it. I broke down crying like a baby cause I could relate to everything he was saying. I was beside myself. I felt better afterward. I told my wife about it today. She said it’s just necessary sometimes.
