This song/album/band is just devastating in the greatest way.

This song is lovely.. so different from anything they've done before but also pretty freaking awesome! Wilco recreating their sound once again. I love this band so much, even my 6 year old is obsessed with them.

Something about Jeff's vocal delivery in this song reminds me of Tom Petty. It's nice, really touching.

A white, wooden cross by the side of the road One someone lost that I did not know What would I do? What would I do? If a white, wooden cross meant that I'd lost you I asked myself, "How would I let go?" And a thought appeared like a morning dew And my blood ran cold My blood ran cold As these sad ideas passed through Tell me no lies Tell me no lies Is it stranger to live? Is it stranger to die? What would I do? What would I do? If a white, wooden cross meant that I'd lost you Tell me no lies Is it stranger to live? Is it stranger to be alive? For all the people that I am not And all their prayers and all their thoughts There's so much more out there Than here where I stand I blow my horn for the whole band

I think there may be a larger metaphorical meaning here, but there doesn't have to be. This is an every person song. Every person who has ever passed a white wooden cross while driving on the highway most likely has their thoughts about it. I know I do. I wonder whose loved one was killed there, why they come there to put a t-shirt or flowers on the cross, why they chose to have a cross at the scene of the death, what they think when they pass it, which could be daily or could be only if they plan a trip around passing it. Whatever the case, I don't blow my horn, but I like that he does, if we are going to take the wooden cross literally, and I like that he does if we take it metaphorically and honk in whatever the way we honk in the presence of great loss. I am going to see Jeff and Wilso this Sunday at The Opry House. Looking forward to hearing some of the songs from this album.

The understated brilliance of OTJ shines thoughout. Glenn's live percussion with OTJ adds an extra dimension.

This song vaguely reminds me of music that would be in the movie Rushmore
