I will always have Wild Arms 3 as the top in the series. It's where the story, battle system, and gameplay all hit it's high note. Everything from wandering around the world map looking for stuff, to the encounter system, to the battles all works ideally. It's also the game in the series that really nails the wild west aesthetic the best. The music and the world really all go deep with the wild west aesthetic in nearly every way, in contrast to WA4 and 5 which... really don't have it that much. Not to mention WA3 having the best intro in the series hands down. I'd also definitely rank Alter Code F as a massive improvement over the first game that it remakes. It basically just takes WA1 and puts it in the same system as Wild Arms 3 with some battle gameplay changes to accommodate how everybody in WA1 didn't have an Arm. I'd put Alter Code F just under Wild Arms 3 in quality generally, with WA5 bringing up the rear and WA2 just above it with WA4 in the middle. Tbh I didn't care much for the grid system in WA4 and 5 but it worked while WA5's story was just plain terrible. Especially the plot twist at the end. SPOILERS: A time loop story? Seriously? The only time a time loop story actually works is when the loop that the story takes place in is the one where the loop breaks. Avril gets stuck in a time loop for all eternity and she and Dean will never be together for real. It makes the whole game feel completely pointless. Everything you're doing has happened already and will happen and there's nothing you can do about it. Really, I put WA5 at the bottom in large part for this one plot point alone.
@luciusirving592611 ай бұрын
In other words, WA4 and 5 pulled a FF8. Why can't JRPGs just leave the sci-fi to Mass Effect? Mass Effect and Fallout are the only successful sci-fi RPGs that sell out millions of copies while getting a broad audience. FF13-2 did time travel too and now nobody cares anymore.
@immortalfrieza11 ай бұрын
@@luciusirving5926 To be fair, the whole series always had sci-fi elements. The problem is that they took away the wild west elements that made the series so enjoyable in order to lean into those sci-fi elements more and more and did a bad job with those sci fi elements in the bargain. Mass Effect and Fallout worked as sci-fi RPGs because they were designed as sci-fi RPGs from the outset. On a side note, the only thing really all that wrong with FF8 was how it was built on it's godawful junction system.

Erick Landon RPG The chaos rings games are practically traditional turn based RPGs that happen to be phones that got PS Vita ports in Japan. They are not gachas like Fire Emblem Heroes or Final Fantasy Opera Omnia. Most of the games follow the premise of couples being taken to a ark arena to do battle and having their bonds tested. There was gonna be a Crossover game with all games characters together called Chaos Rings Sigma, but was cancelled and there hasn't been a Chaos Rings game since CR3, which fans labeled it a black sheep for not being set in an ark arena for once.

As someone who loves this series its almost criminal that I have not played the 4th one yet but of not including that one my list would be. Wilds Arms 3 is my least favorite, I really wasn't very fond of all the characters except for Virginia and the game dragged on a bit to long for me. I still loved this game don't get me wrong but to me it suffered like so many series did in the transition to the PS2 era. Wild Arms 5 is next on my list, I can't really say anything bad about the game as it was really good but unlike the next two on my list nothing really stood out to me either storywise and had my heart racing. I think the perfected the world building of a 3d wild arms in this game as the world map and places were fricken amazing that is by far its best quality and I did like the battle system. Wild arms 1 is one of my favorite games of all time, I could see if you went back and played this game instead of playing it when it first came out how that might effect your perspective. But at the time its atmosphere felt so original with awesome music, I use to crank the volume of the begging movie every time heck I still go back and listen to it from time to time haha. The story might be a little generic at first as you don't have much of a purpose then like so many RPGs bad thing happens in said area and you quell the bad thing. But it really picks up later in the game and has some really great moments plus the music did I MENTION the music!! Wild Arms 2 is my favorite people who think this one wasn't all around better then the first one are crazy. Other then the music the story, character building, dungeons, battles, and other gameplay were vastly improved. I could understand if all you care about in a game is how wild west it feels and nothing else matters that this one might be considered worse. I can even understand if you avid Tim hater like myself and think he is sole thing wrong with the game since he is thrown in strictly for plot convenience. But if you didn't get chills when some of the main story plots were revealed and your heart pumping during other parts plus the end I just don't understand. I am not going to spoil anything but this is one of the few games that makes you feel like your main hero is actually a hero and not just some random generic story dude with overpowered stats who gets the girl. I think one of the best things about this game is you go in thinking its just another Wild Arms game almost exactly like the first one but it shows you it isn't as the game progresses.

It is very exciting to engage in a fight with a foe who has something to say and is backing up with a personality of his own, istead of smack some big ass giant slime pallet swap!! Also the music is good too and the anime feel grabs me too! It lost its former position because I notice that some of the drawing NPCs has almost the same facial pattern! It has that "fanzine" edge to it that rubbs me the wrong way! Even women has the same facial pattern as male npcs! And this is something that bothers me.... But the rest is highly stunning for me!! 3 - Wild Arms Aler Code F ( up to this point I've never actually played any other game in the series, mostly because I am not too keen on the graphycs on these! Alter Code F stands out the most, because I very much aprecciate the movement the charcaters have on battle and the camera work! Also the music stands great!! 4 - Wild Arms 3 (Charming Cel Shading and awesome music as always! However I can not see myself playing it in the near future..) 5 - Wild Arms 2 ( Sprite work and aesthetic western convey some appeal to me! However The polygons on battle.... Dear God! I can not fantho, PSX polygonal graphics this days!! Few are the ones that could make me play the game!! Chrono Cross, Xenogers on the gear battles.... Vanguard Bandits (For some reason I "accept" plygonal psx graphics when it comes to mechas or machines and scenarios in general, but when it comes to HUMANS... yeah, it is a hard pill to swallow!!) 6 - Wild Arms (Ok here it goes even further!! It is umpleable for me! It requires a level of abstraction to hard for me to tap! It may be as well my own fault! But The in battle graphics with those ballonesc polygonal floating big ass heads characters fighting is umberable to me!! Outside battle, pretty charming 2d aesthetics. And Yet we have the opportunity to play the remake Alter Code F witch is a huuuuuuge improvement! They even maintan the top quality soudtrack! So.....

I've only played the first one and I really liked it. A nice and simple yet charming pick up and play JRPG with a solid yet simple combat system. Honestly, I think the game visually has aged pretty well when it comes to the aesthetics. Lot more than a lot of 3D games at that time. I didn't try out the remake. From the first glance, it looks like a low budget 3D JRPG with stiff animations and it kind of loses the aesthetic charm of the original. Few things that I wasn't fond of in it was a needless take of the main protagonist having no dialog whatsoever since other two protagonists that you can control as well are a talkative bunch and they didn't really capitalize on wild west elements enough. I really want to try out Wild Arms 3 at one point, mostly because it's more accessible to purchase compared to the rest of the series. Maybe I should try out WA2 as well, but on epsxe instead of the standard procedure.

Played Wild Arms 5 and the ending had me bawling and staring at the TV for a while feeling sad because the story and its characters had ended. I want nothing more than to forget that I played Wild Arms 5 and replay it for the first time once again.

I got into wild arms when my buddy and I played it on the PS mini. I never played a wild arms game even during the ps2 era, and honestly didn't know there were other guys in the series.

Wild Arms my favorite series, waited forever for Alter Code F to come out. And yes I miss used the grow apple trick like you wouldn't believe, game never got old, I still like going through and playing 1 thru 5 and Alter Code F. If I remember right Wild Arms had the misfortune of coming out at the same time as Final Fantasy 7, I think. While the rest of the world went nuts with FF, the chosen few got their hands on the uniqueness of Wild Arms.

Great video! Going forward, would really appreciate more detail (without spoilers) as to why you ranked the games that way though. For instance, you didn't mention the music AT ALL from what I could tell, and maybe music may not be that important for you, but for me and many other gamers it's almost as important, if not equally important, as the story, battle systems, etc. Also, since Alter Code F is so expanded from the original WA1, I feel like you cheated a little by giving them the same ranking. If you had to seperate them, what would the respective rankings of ACF and WA1 be?

"the characters of wild arms 5 were originals" they seems to be largely inspired by the skies of arcadia trio

Love this series, and i agree that Wild Arms 5 is the best. My list is pretty similar to yours, but i ranked them 4, 1, 2, 3, 5 from worst to best.
@mulletking9 ай бұрын
The ranking system for best to worst WA games is pretty simple. Evert single game was not as good as the one that came before it. 1, 2, and 3 are still good (though 3 was pretty short), and then 4 and 5 were easily the least well received. Honestly, ditch playing WA4 an WA5, and move over to Legend of Legeia after that.

This series clearly has strengths and weaknesses all over the place so it's hard to rank. Probably ACF and 5 are the best all around. Actually, ACF would be one of my premier choices for a starter RPG recommendation except for one huuuuuuge flaw (there are a few balance issues, but I digress). It's that the weather vanes (or whatever they're called in that game) do NOT protect against back attack style ambushes. The encounter rate is tuned way up because you can cancel- but you can't cancel ambushes... so all the other stuff gets canceled or blocked by the weather vane and you're left being constantly back attacked over and over and over. But as good as 5 is, the story and lead aren't very good. And while 4 is the black sheep, it more or less does the hex system better by making movement a little harder overall. Still, WA3 gets the Western influence down properly. I think while it has lots of issues in practice, it has the most potential.

is wild arms story connected or can i play any wild arms without any order?
@ErickLandonRPG5 жыл бұрын
They're not connected at all. Some characters make some really small and irrelevant cameos here and there, and they all take place in the fictional continent of Filgaia, but none are connected whatsoever.

I only played the very first Wild Arms game, and not for long too, but I've always wanted to get properly familiar with this series, and now, thanks to this great video, i have several more reasons to do so. By the way, I know it has nothing to do with the theme of the video, but what is your opinion on XF?
@ErickLandonRPG5 жыл бұрын
It's terrible. Difficulty spikes everywhere and a serious lack of good gameplay mechanics.

a wild arms list where the 'worst of the series' is still considered pretty good is the best way to make a wild arms list.

you forgot Wild Arms XF though. and i'd probably swap Wild Arms 3 with 2 on the list

Ah I love your channel but this time I so disagree with you. I love all wild arms but the 2nd is definitely the worst and the 4th don’t deserve to be the last. I think it’s matter of opinions

I loved the first 3 but did not like 4 or 5. I much preferred the boring classic battle systems employed by the first games. I also preferred art style of the first 3 games.

Never played any of them (yet). Maybe I play them some day even though my list of games to play is way too long. What I like to know, are they connected like they all take place in the same world or is it more like Final Fantasy that they only share the name?
@jennifer7147142 жыл бұрын
Wow, am I ever late seeing this video but here we go. My personal favorite is the first Wild Arms, I remember getting that right after it was released and immediately fell in love with it. That intro is a solid hook and I remember picking Jack first. His little intro into his beginning arc is priceless. Hanpan for the win. I have both soundtrack collections for this game to, best music in any game I've ever played, past and present. Next best to me was Wild Arms 3. Only flaw in my opinion was who the hell designed the Abyss dungeon? My god, 100 floors of random battles with no floor skips or save points. Toss in several bosses on the way down to the all famous Ragu Ragla (name changes slightly in every game but he's there in each) and he's a royal pain in the butt. Knock him out to finally go back to the beginning floor just to immediately fight him again to, but he's stronger. This guy can kill you easily, have those element wards is all I have to say. Personal tip I use, I go through that dungeon at the point in the story when there are no random encounters anywhere in the entire game, this includes The Abyss, makes going through the 100 floors only take a few hours instead of all day. And if you ever leave the dungeon, you have no shortcuts, you have to do all 100 again. Third favorite is WA2. Loved the ability to transform along with a solid crew. Forth goes to WA5 and last to WA4. These two were very similar in my opinion but 5 just polished up the new hex system better than 4, which is what gives it the edge.
