I pretty well agree with the rest of the listing, although I feel playing Suikoden 1 & 2 one after another is the best way to experience them and are my favorite. Suikoden 5 is good, but I hated how I pretty well needed a walkthrough on my lap in order to find all the Stars, although I really do need to play through 5 again. Suikoden 3 is easily one of my favorite rpgs, with 5 not too far behind. I did play both just last year as well. I like the combat system and the animations, but wish there was more of a challenge. I did appreciate the treasure bosses at least. Then magic does so much damage that you only need one or two spell casters. I also like the trinity system for allowing you to get to know more of the characters and see their interactions with their groups, instead of having the same regulars through most the game. Yes, I even liked Thomas's chapters for what they were. Suikoden 5 is an even easier game with boss bottles often being over very quickly. I also feel like the skill system is much more limited in 3. The animations and UI also seemed like a step backwards. That being said, there's lots of fun characters and mini games to be had here.

I like 3 more than you even while agreeing with all your points about it. Camera and back tracking are a pain in 3 too, but I like Luc’s story turn I think it carries the game, the tie ins to 1 and 2 are appreciated (less superficial and tacked on than say Chrono Cross’ tie ins to Trigger) and the characters are pretty solid, except for the ducks haha. For me 1, 2 and 5 are the gold standards of the series. Tactics, 3 and 4 are flawed but good enough... and I just dont consider Tiekries to be a Suikoden game. lol

I found Luc' motivations pretty stupid. Like they tried to make them deep but it's totally the opposite. Also, he wanted to get rid of the rune by destroying it, yet the franchise itself shows countless of times that there are many ways to relinquish the runes.

Looking back, Suikoden IV wasn't such a bad game. First of all, IV told the story from the perspective of the Mediterranean climate, which was a nice change from castles and a typical fantasy set in the Middle Ages. It was also nice to learn about Ted's fate and more about the rune of the punishment. The sea fights and voice acting weren't bad either. Of course, 2 is undoubtedly the best part and one of the best stories in the history of J-RPGs with an amazing OST.

My order of what games I enjoy in this series is slightly different. I would put either 3 or Tierkreis as the bottom. The Trinity site system really bugged me, got sick of it really fast not to mention all the other things you mentioned in the video. But I'd still put it above the DS game maybe if only because it fits into the main Suikoden timeline. I know I'm in the minority but I really enjoy 4 despite the fact that there's only four party members and the cruising around in a ship can get a bit tedious. Ultimately in my ranking I put four and tactics together as one game because they complement each other so well. I can't think of any complaints on tactics, and that's considering that I'm not usually super enthralled about Tactic Games. Then it's kind of a tie between 5 and 2. I'd probably put two above 5 from what I can recall since it's been a while since I've played both of them. Finally, one is still my favorite. It's the one I started with, I was pleasantly surprised when my friend bought it for me and it blew me away. I got obsessed with it and played through it several times in a very short time. And it probably has my favorite soundtrack out of the entire series. Absolutely loved one as number one. There's also the two Gaidens, Web of a Woven Century, and Suikoden Card Stories. I'm not big into card games and my understanding is that it's just a retelling of the second game. I do need to get around to the two Gaidens and the PSP game. Hopefully they all get a proper commercial remaster release at some point!

@SeventhheavenDK Жыл бұрын
Totally disagree, I found the ost of 2 completely superior to the ost of 1. And do not let me start on the battle music themes, because Suikoden 1 falls very short there compared to every other game in the franchise.
@usaskjock Жыл бұрын
@@SeventhheavenDK That opinion would be wrong. Objectively. Factually. Not even debatable. 2 has a few great tracks - Reminiscence, the opening movie, and Rokkaku are by far the 3 standouts. But most are pretty mediocre, esp the town themes. The instrumentation is nowhere near as lush as the first game and the melodies far less memorable and are far simpler. The other better tracks in the soundtracks are all tracks that are revisions of melodies found in the first game. Suikoden 1 doesn't have a single bad track in the game, and not only are the arrangments FAR more complex, longer in length before looping, involving more instruments (sometimes twice as many), have more variety in terms of world music influence, are FAR more memorable, but the number of top quality tracks is well into the double digits. And the overall audio quality of the first game is FAR better, the 2nd game is so squeaky and uses poorer sampling. Gregminster Palace Gregminster Mt Seifu Theme of Moonlit Night Theme of Sadness both version the incredble Lake Kouan town theme Village of the Elves, Dark Forest Theme of tension Sneaking into Lepant's mansion Both versions of the Home base castle theme Antei - village of the People Kirov's eastern european peasant village The prologue movie theme Forgotten Days - Village of the Hidden Rune (the best track in the game and the series) Warriors Village theme Neclord's Passacaria Knights of the Dragon's Den Ending credits All of these are stellar tracks and better than of track in Suikoden 2 except for the 3 I mentioned. And the battle them of Suikoden 1 is way better than the battle theme in Suikoden 2. Normally I'd agree to disagree but in this case you're just wrong dude. Wrong as wrong can be.

For me I've never played the spin offs, Suikoden Tactics, and the ones for the DS and psp. I'm kind of amazed to see Suikoden 3 at last place. I'd imagine at least the spin offs would be lower. But again I haven't played them. I will play the psp version eventually though as it has a translation and I hear it's pretty good. 5. Suikoden IV - It's kind of tough, I played through it and beat it once, I remember liking it, but honestly I don't remember much about it other than being so happy the battle system wasn't like 3. And that the voice acting felt kind of slow or off, and the ships being kind of annoying. But over all I still enjoyed my time with it. I'll have to give it a replay. 4. Suikoden III - I actually really like the story and the characters, the set pieces too. And that opening animation is still god like to this day. I didn't mind the multiple view points. I just found it slightly annoying like most games that switch between protags, where I'm super invested in what's going to happen, but I can't continue with that, and must play someone else instead. The only thing keeping it from being number 3 for me personally is the god awful battle system. I can't stand it, and is certainly the worst in the series. 3. Suikoden V - I'm actually playing this right now, the story and characters are quite fun. Battle system isn't annoying though the transitions entering and exiting battles can be a bit obnoxious. I haven't actually beat this game just yet. When I got it originally, I got to a point where I needed 3 different parties similar to Luca Blight, and only leveled my favorites. So I died, and I went back and leveled a bunch, got past it and my game froze. So I kind of gave up. Besides the battle transitions being a little time consuming, it feels like you need a guide constantly while playing it. It's so easy to miss stars of destiny, and some choices can simply lock characters out. I'm not the biggest fan of the war battles, they seem a bit chaotic and hard to keep track of at times. It's also probably longer than every other Suikoden combined...okay maybe not but it's long! I'm fairly confident though, that this is deserving of the number 3 spot regardless of the small gripes. 2. Suikoden - It's the original, the characters are fun, the battles are lightning fast and don't waste my time too much. The game can be breezed through pretty quickly. And getting the 108 stars of destiny isn't too difficult. Just a super solid, and quick rpg to beat. It may not have the deepest story of the franchise, but I don't have many negatives to say about it. 1. Suikoden II - Yup, I don't think this one can be topped. Characters are probably the best in the series, with one of the best villains in rpgs in general. The story is master class. Combat is short and sweet. The 2D sprites imo are also top notch. Music imo is probably the best in the series as well. It's longer than the first but still has a comfortable length. The war battles to me are the best in the series. It also has the best home base. And you can even go see the original Protagonist and fight with him. I've actually said that this is my favorite game on the original PS1, and I think that it still holds up.

@@davidvinc Everything you disliked about it is fair and valid. I just didn't dislike them for whatever reason. I put Suikoden III only behind Suikoden II. But I understand why Suikoden III can be overlooked. Great list nonetheless, keep it up.

Just here to show my love for Suikoden 3 so it can continue to be just as polarizing as it was when it was released. It’s the definition of a love it or hate it game. I’m one of those weirdos that loves it but definitely understands it is extremely flawed. It just hits all the right spots for me and I love the manga series that fills in plot holes and makes Luc’s motivations and emotions more well known and up front instead of putting them in the 108 star true ending.

I definitely agree with 5 being the best, it really felt like a culmination of all the series' ideas into a pretty perfect entry. And 4 wasn't completely horrible. I dunno about ranking Tierkreis above 3 though. 3 could be frustrating gameplay wise, but the story had more going for it. I could not tell you a thing about Tierkries.

I *hated* Suikoden Tactics with its unintentionally funny fish monster transformations and especially its creepy eyeless NPCs. Seriously, having to look at those freaky things completely ruined the game for me. Completely agree that II and V are the best games in the series.
@SeventhheavenDK Жыл бұрын
Even if I don't fully agree, I actually liked your Ranking, and despite I like Suikoden 3 I agree with your complaints. Overall, Suikoden is a great franchise. My rank would be most favorite to least. 1) Suikoden 2 2) Suikoden 5 3) Suikoden 3 4) Suikoden 1 5) Suikoden 4 6) Suikoden Tierkress 7) Suikoden Tactics

Suikoden 3 narrative structure is very similar to Pulp Fiction. They want you to see a point of view experience for characters around a central plot. Each character's experience is just a small piece of the overall plot. After beating the game you put all those pieces together. Speaking of Pulp Fiction. I watched it with three other friends in the theater. I thought it was a masterpiece. The others thought it was a waste of their time. I can see people that beat suikoden 3 having the same reaction. Love/Hate it.

My list is almost the same with you, just different in no.1 position, suikoden 2 is no 1, just because they have food competition!! Wow I love it so much, it even have own end credits 😂😂, too bad suikoden V doesn't have it, it would be perfect if the cooking mini games in it 😉

okay, i've been a fan of the series since the beginning, though i had my top faves reversed from yours. you may have changed my mind. after your assessment i have to agree that V took the series further than II as far as mechanics and overall game play. i still think the story of II is better, but may have to concede that V is an overall better game. well done.

Suikoden 3 has one of all time best character designs in a game. I've never seen anyone complain about the battle system. Story was good, and the trinity sight really got you to know a bloated cast. S4, ugh, random battles every few seconds, battle system from the dark ages. It just screams low budget and while low budget doesn't mean bad there was whiff from Konami that we don't care if its bad. I wasn't a fan of 5 that much, just little things. Loading screens for everything, even entering a house in a town. The art was a big step back from 3.

I'd like to know your thoughts on Woven Web of the Century. I'm almost through it, and while I do like it more than Tierkreis, I don't feel like it could touch Suikoden 3 or 4, much less any of the better games. I'd put it between "okay" and "good" (so...decent?).

You should do a video ranking either the true runes in order of strength or preference. Or, video ranking the protagonist. The latter might be difficult due to a majority of them being silent protagonist. With that said, I still have my favorites

I can see why many others prefere 5 over 2. My list would be: #7 Tierkreis (do we even have to call this game a suikoden game? ugh..) #6 Suiko 1 (i liked it, but for me, story was the real good thing about it, everything else wasn't that impressive, but it was ok). #5 Suiko 3 (if the battle system were different, and not that silly ''pair thing'' and the story weren't told with that ''trinity system'', it could have been one of the best, i mean we got A LOT of true runes here, and i really loved them in combat

I played all the games that made it to the US, and Suikoden is one of my favorite RPG serieses. I still remember first playing the original game during one of my early sleep overs at my best friend's house. My order worst to best would be Tierkreis (Which I don't think should have been a SUikoden game), Tactics, IV, III, I, V,, II. II and V are V aredull, II has more of my favorite characters from the series,. Plus some ofthe backstorythat led to the whole mess your character is having to deal with in V annoys me. One thing you didn't mention about III's battle system is how Fire spells can deal friendly fire damage. IMO that fact makes it the worst Suikoden battle system to use for the game focused on the True Fire Rune. I wouldn't be surprised if I dealt more damage tomy own party then too the enemy when using the True Fire RUne and I rarely used it for that reason..

5 is 3d graphic, but the detail is bad imo. You can see many merchant standing beside a pole with the shop sign, like at nirva island, port spinach, estrise, etc. Also S5 doesnt have weapon rune system. S2 was best for me although it has so many bugs. Edit: if you're using psx emulator, someone already make [bug fixed patch] version you can enjoy.

I've only played the first two, and Luca is a big reason for why I did not care for 2 nearly as much as 1. He felt too cartoony and like he was mostly evil for the sake of being evil, which also felt at odds with the world at large. Why is such an obviously evil madman getting so much support? Also I thought the tactical battles in Suikoden 2 were a real drag, they were slow and not particularly tactical. Even though the battles in Suikoden 1 were not amazing, I liked them more (and this comes from someone who normally loves tactical battles). Suikoden 1 is probably my favourite JRPG ever made, and this is not me being nostalgic, I played the game a bit over a year ago for the first time, Suikoden 2 is just really good.

Before I start. 'KZbin says the game in the video is Final Fantasy 5.' KZbin pls, your drunk, go home. 7. 'Worst to Best.' 'Suikoden 3 is first.' Ooph, that's a rough take. 6. If it was under a different name, this would have been received alot better. I think that gameplay wise, it's probably better than 4..........but it is not better than 3 to me. As a JRPG, it's one of the better ones on the DS honestly, it's a Good, possibly GREAT game. It is a poor Suikoden game. 5. Yeah, this feels about the right spot for the game. There was some good ideas.........they were not quite executed well. A Shame Really. 4. The game is flawed........and part of it is Probably because, if a certain Goon's theory is correct, it was rushed (Think bout it for a second, what did Eleanor actually do?). 3. I agree with this game's placement. It was the first of the Series, it has not aged well honestly, but it was the start of it all, and it's still a great game. 2. 'Is not number 1.' Wha? Really? 1. This game is kind of amazing given Murayama wasn't involved in it, and unlike the other games on the list didn't, this one somehow turned out to be one of the best in the franchise. 'Funky G' Lol wot?
