A fascinating video thank you John and Robbie. At the moment I've got 16 Red Mason Bees which have nested in a Bee Hotel my husband & I bought. Amazing to see them ar work!

Brilliant! I was wondering how to make bricks like this for the bees on my allotment (turning into more of a wildlife garden these days than a cabbage patch!). I'll definitely be having a go at this in the coming weeks....can dry them off under the benches in my greenhouse too.

I love this idea. I am in Torbay and was going to ask where yoy get the Loam from to make the bricks, but if you have a kit that would probably be better for a moment. Excellent 😁

Would thermolite blocks be suitable? I was thinking along the lines of that they are light & thermally protective, easy to work with & I just happen to have a couple laying around surplus . . . . Thank you in anticipation . . .

hello thermolite blocks will attract bees to nest in, the hairy footed bees prefer cob but others such as leaf-cutter and mason bees will use them, make a variety of holes from 3 to 12 mm diameter for the different species and put the blocks in a warm south-facing if possible spot with a roof over the top to keep it dry, also a good idea to put some pots with flowers attractive to bees near the bricks as this will encourage bees to visit them

Further thoughts that I've had while awaiting a reply: Because they are soft & easy to 'work', it would be easy to soften their appearance from 'block' form & to also paint them with natural yoghurt to weather them & also attract some fungal growth to further disguise their origins . . . . You can tell this is going to be fun😂👍 ps Have also just thought to make the holes with a slightly upward incline (5°) to reduce water incursion . . . watch this space . . . am on a roll 😂😂😂😂😂

This video was so poorly titled. Do you think anyone is going to search up "Wild bees part 3"???? Instead you should have titled it: "Building solitary bee hotel bricks" or something along those lines.

please don't put straw in the lembricks it's not good for the bees when he's grabbing .

Your supposed to put straw in these bricks it keeps the bricks together and bee do use them and love making a winter home in them.
