Are there any dangers from wildlife when camping overnight in Big Bend ? I’m going to be flying down to Texas to visit Big Bend in the middle of February. Wondering if there’s any good spots for some wildlife photography? I’d love to see some deer, Javalena, bobcats, sheep, bears. Thanks

We usually see a variety of wildlife up in the basin area. Cats, bears and deer. We usually camp up on the south rim, or at a site on the way, and we’ll see deer and bear up there.

I was there in November and a black bear (maybe more than one) showed up in the window view trail area, behind the general store, every night around sunset for 3-4 nights in a row. 🐻🐻🐻

I saw 2 bears . We were hiking Emory and took a wrong turn on the way down. Ended up on South Rim, I think. It was a long day. 😂 Bears in Big Bend behave differently than bears in more popular parks. Much more erratic in my experience. They saw us before we saw them and they took off running really fast. They scared me pretty bad. I was also pretty anxious because we were lost, the sun was going down, and we were miles away from the car. We saw mountain lion prints at Santa Elena Canyon at sunrise. We showed the ranger who confirmed.

This park is famous for being the darkest sky in America and it did not disappoint. I could not believe how densely populated the sky was with stars. You can even see the Milky Way during the new moon. I also really enjoyed all the opportunities to go to the border with Mexico. The Santa Elena Canyon is beautiful and my kids loved crossing the frigid water in the canyon so they could say they went to Mexico. There is also a hot spring on the opposite side of the park that also borders Mexico. If you go at sunset on a weekend, you'll likely get to meet some Mexicans who cross the border to relax in the hot springs after work. Truly a cultural experience!

Thank you for sharing such an exciting experience at Big Bend! 😊 Santa Elena Canyon truly is a stunning destination, and I can imagine how thrilled your kids were to cross the chilly water and proudly say they’ve “set foot” in Mexico. The hot spring on the other side of the park sounds equally special, not just for its natural beauty but for the chance to connect with locals crossing the border to relax. Moments like these are truly unforgettable cultural experiences. Wishing you more amazing adventures and continued exploration of nature’s unique wonders! 🌿🌅✨

Splendid isolation. If you want remote , isolated, raw natural beauty, away from the crowds. This is it. This place is without a doubt the jewel of the chihuahuan desert and the borderlands. I wouldn’t recommend visiting over the summer months as it can get dangerously hot. Bring your own water, leave your dogs at home, and stay off unpaved roads if you don’t have a 4 wheel drive . At the Rio Grande Village you will often see artwork made by Mexican locals from the village of Boquillas just across. They cross the river and leave the art work by the trail for tourists to pick what they want and leave some change. Border patrol strongly discourages purchasing this art work. If you want a souvenir you can legally cross into Boquillas and explore a beautiful part of Mexico, you will need your passport for that.

Thank you for sharing such detailed and helpful information! 🌟 The Chihuahuan Desert truly offers a majestic and isolated experience, perfect for those who love pristine nature. Carrying water and being cautious on the roads are excellent tips, especially for anyone unfamiliar with the harsh conditions here. 💧☀ As for the artwork, it’s true there are mixed opinions. However, legally crossing into Boquillas to experience and directly support the locals is a fascinating and proper choice. 🛤🇲🇽 Hope you continue sharing more interesting experiences from other incredible places! 🌵✨

It was overall a great experience. Only downside that came with it was that the guy working at the entrance was rude, but helpful nonetheless. The park is very clean. The weather was very inconsistent, it was cold as heck during the night and very warm during the day. It’s huge so make sure you have enough gas to explore throughout the park (gas stations are located inside parks).

Certainly one of the natural wonders of the world. The vistas seem like they go on forever, well beyond the eye can see. The environment makes for delightful feast for the eye around every curve in the road. While many of the major "wows" can be had in any vehicle, for the adventurous I highly recommend getting a 4 wheel drive vehicle with plenty of clearance to take the lesser dirt & gravel roads. I found it well worth the time and money. One word to the wise be sure to take plenty of water especially in the warmer months and to make sure you have plenty of fuel for you vehicle. Much of the park is very remote and gets little travel in the off seasons. Please listen to the Park Rangers for your own and others safety🎉🎉🎉

Thank you for sharing your experience and such helpful advice! 🌟 Big Bend truly is a natural wonder with its endless and pristine beauty. Exploring the lesser-known dirt roads with a 4WD vehicle certainly adds an adventurous touch, but as you mentioned, being well-prepared with plenty of water and fuel is essential due to the remote nature of the area. Listening to park rangers’ advice is always key to having a safe and memorable trip. I hope you have many more fantastic adventures and continue sharing your insights with others! 🚗🌄🎉

puma leaps 40 feet in one bound? thats gotta be ai hallucination
@wildnatureus20243 күн бұрын
Not at all! Pumas (also known as mountain lions) are truly exceptional long-jumpers in the animal kingdom. With their powerful muscles and highly flexible hind legs, they can leap as far as 40 feet (about 12 meters) in a single bound, especially when chasing prey or navigating challenging terrain. This has been documented in numerous studies and real-world observations. Pretty impressive, right? 🐾✨ Thank you for your comment, and I hope you'll continue to support the channel!
