It's very easy to talk shit on social media, especially when you have no idea how the business itself actually works. The pressure on these guys, even from family is crushing. The schedules suck, the constant travel sucks, kills marriages, kills confidence and health. It's actually very surprising that more wrestlers haven't died or killed themselves than the ones we already know about. It's a lonely life and most end up both broken and dead broke in the end. WOW that must have been crazy". Its kinda endearing, lol. Guys have image issues too, to which they get nothing but mockery and shaming for rather than a modicum of support or reassurance, and that's now, a bulimic (and straight... only mentioning it since I ain't and there's different "rules") man in the 80s wasn't going to ellicit any different a response. Its not surprising *if* its true. Only reason I stopped doing it was when it became apparent its a waste of time. You can only lose so many calories you've taken in through purging or pills. It amounts to about a third. Oh and forget about keeping your pearly white teeth when you're living that kind of lifestyle too. Ain't worth it. @samlott994 жыл бұрын
Most big stories like this do have multiple versions. People's memories aren't accurate, or some of what they say is second hand. My understanding is David was caught up in the pain pill crowd of wrestlers. Lots of them were, as they were always in some kind of pain. Totally understandable in that line of work. David took moderate amounts of Qualudes back then, and washed them down with whiskey. In Japan, he couldn't find any whiskey, and chugged a bunch of Sake that night with his Quaaludes. It triggered a gastric problem. Also, David wasn't found dead the very next morning. He had laid there dead for a couple of days, and swelled up to 3 times his size. It's easy to tell that Irwin is bullshitting his way thru a lot of this, making up a bunch of it.

@wrestlinghistorian40646 жыл бұрын
Never gonna happen it seems, unless it is a deathbed confession type of things. Still to this day, Kevin will acknowledge that the other Von Erich boys had drug problems, but not he and Dave. I've never ever heard him once acknowledge that he and Dave even touched a recreational drug. The closest he will ever come is saying that Dave popped pain pills and drank beers because of his stomach, but almost every wrestler from that period of time have confirmed that ALL the Von Erich's were heavily into drugs. I honestly don't know why, because no one cares if they did or didn't at this point. Hell everyone was into drugs in the 80's. The only thing I can honestly guess is that Dave's death was so painful to Kevin, and he has so much guilt over it, that it is easier to pretend it was something other than what it was, even after all of these years. That he died from something totally out of their control, rather than from the lifestyle choices he and Dave made. The alternative is that Kevin is completely nuts like his father and is still "working" for some strange reason, even though is no reason left to work. I've met Kevin several times, and he comes off as a nice guy, so I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Occam's razor would suggest it's coping mechanism for him.
