Even in a disaster you see the good things. You learn from it unlike way too many who would have just said "F it, I'm never going to do that again". And you were not ashamed to tell that part of the story. Keep up the great work you are doing Becky. I know you are inspiring and teaching many both young and old. *HUGS*

Becky i'm so happy to see someone your age engaging in this hobby with such passion and thoughtfulness!!! I totally cracked up when you and Harriet were lying there recalling your day and kept slipping into mini laugh spurts. I couldn't help but to laugh a bit too, ok a lot... It So reminded me of my best bud and i back in the day. So great. Thank you so much for reminding me of my youth and that bush craft is a hobby that can be more fun than serious discussions about methods for batoning small logs. And of course you're providing great content. Whole time i'm like, .... "wait for the coals, wait for the coals..." and you swooped right in and waited for the coals.

+Girl Outdoors Such an awesome trip for you and your Best friend Harriet. I was having an exciting time watching you both having fun and chilling on the river. That Island camp always had a mysteriousness about it even when you and Louise camped there. But that made it an exciting place for camp. I did become worried when the next morning you showed how much the river had risen. But i new the outcome must have been ok since the video had been uploaded. However did not expect how your video ended. Just know I'm truly happy your frightful experience tipping out into the river ended with you unharmed and with you and Harriet being finally safe back home. Glad you practiced safe travels by wearing your flotation vest. Be safe my friend and hope to see you and Harriet on a new adventure sometime. Thanks for sharing and thank God for keeping you safe.

Thanks for sharing your experience... it humbles one after taking a spill, but we're glad you're alright. It can happen when you least expect it, and it could have been a lot worse. You got a tiny taste of what it might be like paddling a truly 'wild' Canadian river .. no one 'maintains' our back waters.. it's all wild .. and navigating around fallen trees, rocks and branches is all part of the adventure.. eventually you learn how to handle certain situations before you get to them .. knowing it might get 'tricky' when there's an obstacle and a current to deal with. ... try white water sometime ...just for the thrill of it. Cheers to you Becky .. you're stronger for having this experience. Keep at it. We love what you are sharing with so many people. Glenn & Maureen... in the land where most lakes and rivers are still frozen, here in the woods of Ontario Canada.

Moving water is no joke! Glad you ended up safe. Was going up Yellowknife River yesterday with friends, and was amazed at how many people don't wear lifejackets! Good thing you had yours. Still ice on the lakes here. Even mid summer, in calm weather, our cold water kills. Just discovered your channel, and it's been great so far. Learning from adversity tends to make the lessons more easily remembered. I wear wool on the water, as even wet, it will still insulate half decently. Dry bags are worth every penny. Buddy system is a good idea, as well. Take care.

That was an excellent video Becky. The last time I saw you at that camp was with Louise. You and Harriet failed to mention how good the steak was with the wild garlic on it. I'm guessing that the craving for delicious hot Cocoa got the best of you. LOL! That was the first time I have seen that river with rapid current. I'm so glad to see that your weren't hurt. I think that you might want to add one item to your gear. A pair of goggles. Just a light pair that you can hang around your neck. That way if disaster happens, you can pull them up quickly and won't get poked in the eye by a branch. I feel that you and Harriet kept your heads together in this situation and both got initiated to the white water rafting experience. That puts both of you ahead of me when it comes to river rafting. I can handle the oceans rip tides but river rafting is scary to me. I think that the rocks and trees and other debris is what seems to worry me about it. I realize that you didn't expect this sort of disaster to happen but I am soooo glad that you and Heather kept your wits about you and you and managed to come out in flying colors. You girls are hard core and you probably don't actually realize just how hard core you are yet. I feel that (IF GO=PRO WERE SMART...THEY WOULD BE OFFERING YOU A CAMERA JUST FOR THE PUBLICITY THAT THEY WOULD GET!) But what do I know. I'm just a swamp dweller. Love ya Becky! Many years ago I experienced the same exact scenario. It's quite frightening but as you said. A learning experience if not a difficult one. Good for you. The equipment can be replaced. You can't. Since then I never paddle without everything being in dry bags. I find more smaller ones much better than one or two large ones. They are tethered to the boat but with long leads so as not to drag me down but also not to lose my survival gear. I also have a river/sailing knife ( I do both) attached to my PFD to extricate myself from the leads or any other obstructions. I hope to see you both out and about soon. You are only beginning your adventures and are explorers that will compliment each other with time and experience.

Last year I had some friends whose riverside campsite got wiped out in a flash flood and within 10 minutes the river has risen 3 feet and they lost most of their gear. I always recommend being dressed for water immersion if you are on the water i used to risk it often dressing in ord clothes but if you get caught out and get wet or go into the water for any reason you invariably dont get those clothes dry again theyre gone until you get back home or many hours later Sea water especially takes ages to dry out due to salt content So try to dress seperately before even getn on the water It will save on the changes of clothes less washing needed whenever you get back home Etc An immersion suit with light insulative layer underneath is very good or a comfy bolero wetsuit To allow freer arm movements As you paddle is a good idea Tie some knots in yer haul out rope or loops for pulling yerself out up bank of river Youll find it easier than straight ropeline If you slip you will go straight back in the oggin behinds you Very nice video nice trip Relaxing Its peaceful arounds water Even on claggy days Ive set out on bad days in bad weather bye midday its blown over cleared up Burst out in sunshine Many sat at home thinking its in for day Youve come back having had a great day cuz you launched on claggy day they regret it not launching At all Its always nice to do something go ahead if possible it toughens you up A bit and if weather comes out nice again then thats a bonuses too Also Many days get lost bye not launching onto water Cuz of not ideal conds Weather You just got to make yourself what you wear on water pretty bombproof water suitable As you can do most things on land dressed for the water in water clothes but you cannot usually do it the other.ways around wear land clothes often in the water As you invariably get them wet Just have to watch out for thorns if wearing expensive waterproofs For kayaking etc As.they will puncture a dry suit Expensive mistake :) Lol

Enjoyed that :) You should do more stuff with Harriet (or with your family and Harriet), that’s a nice format for an outdoor channel, two young girls doing outdoor stuff, enjoying nature. Guess that is more than rare these days than anything. Anyhow, keep it up :)

OH NO!!!! Thank GOD you are ok, Hon! Your gear can be replaced, you can't. So very glad that you are ok. I always worry about outdoors folk that camp close to a river. The risk of flash flooding and rapid water currents are nothing to mess with. I hope that whatever gear you've lost can be easily replaced. I've lost an acquaintance in a kayaking incident very much like yours. He, too, was capsized under a fallen tree and jammed into the trunk by raging water. His party could not get to him in time as he drowned. Hope you can get your camera repaired. I was enjoyed the good quality of your videos. Again, thank GOD that you're safe. I'll bet this story scared the willys out of Bushwacker Man!

Aaaaaaa what fun. You make it look so easy, you have skills girl. Nice job, keep having fun and making these videos for the rest of of us, that is when you get your cam corder back. Regarding your fall into the water, look at it this way "your skills helped you get through it in good shape". Gear can always be replaced.
