We came up to the Lake District to wild camp at the wettest location in the UK and it didn't disappoint! Personally, I don't mind wild camping in the rain. Wild camping in the Lake District is my favourite place in the UK. We came up here to go backpacking in the Lake District and take on some of the finest climbs to show that you can backpack and wild camp in the mountains.
The weather in the Lake District is well know for changing and we experienced this summiting Great Cable where wind speeds reached up to 70mph!
Our wild camping spot was the wettest place in England, Sprinkling Tarn, known for having the most precipitation of all of England.
After backpacking uk we pitched our Hilleberg Soulo and Naturehike Mongar 2 tents in a well sheltered part of Sprinkling Tarn but we were still effected by the Lake District weather.
Gear We Used:
Hilleberg Soulo Backpacking Tent
Naturehike Mongar 2 Tent amzn.to/3tUAq2m
OEX Fathom EV 400 amzn.to/3fsGusG
Naturehike CWM 400 Down Sleeping Bag amzn.to/3uhzFAA
Mountain Equipment Aerostat Synthetic 7.0 sleeping Mat amzn.to/3tQy7NF
Sea to Summit Etherlight Insulated Sleeping Pad
Trekology Pillow amzn.to/3ev9Jun
Osprey Kestrel 48 amzn.to/3sRvYA3
Jetboil MiniMo: amzn.to/2Pmv0y3
According to Wikipedia Seathwaite is the wettest inhabited place in the United Kingdom and receives around 3,552 millimetres (140 in) of rain per year. The wettest non-inhabited place is Springkling Tarn just one mile away!

Thanks. The weather in The Lake District is so changeable. We experienced all 4 seasons! Unfortunately backpacking and wild camping in places like the lakes means you have to take loads of gear with you, and therefore weight. However, it does mean you can handle pretty much any situation and also makes the trip more enjoyable too.
@DemiGod..
@DemiGod.. 7 ай бұрын
Just bought a Soulo BL as an alternative to using my Akto. The weight doesn't bother me as similar weight to the Nammatj2 I used to have and quite a bit less than my Tarra. Looking forward to seeing how it handles bad weather compared to the Akto which is a super strong with 2x10mm poles. 99% of wild camping videos are from the Lake District, you would think that nobody camps in the Scottish Highlands.

@BackpackingUK
@BackpackingUK 3 жыл бұрын
Not too bad considering the weather and it performed better than Mark expected. This was definitely 4 season weather so not really suited to the Mongar but it did ok. Cold drafts were the main issue. Where it really excels is in typical 3 season weather. Still a brilliant tent!

Where would you recommend someone for their first wild camping experience?
@BackpackingUK
@BackpackingUK 3 жыл бұрын
For a first time out I would recommend staying fairly local and somewhere that you’ve been before. Next go a bit further out and then you’re ready to hit the hills! Snowdonia and The Lakes are my most favourite places to wild camp. It’s a bit more relaxed there too. Just remember to pitch up a bit before it starts getting dark and pack up reasonably early in the morning and always take your rubbish away. The worse one is the first one and then you’ll be more relaxed and confident after that.
