My friend and I spent 3 nights wild camping at one of the most beautiful places in Canada called Garibaldi Lake.
In August 2021, Parker Matthews and I made the opportunity to take a Canada Road trip and decided to go camping in Garibaldi Park. With advance permits required for the main campsites, we wild camped around the side of the lake. We hiked 5.5 miles (8.9km) from Rubble Trailhead to Garibaldi Lake and set up camp in the evening glow. The next day, we explored a bushwhack trail up part of Mt. Alice.
The next day aimed at summit The Black Tusk, also called Landing Place of the Thunderbird. Little did we know that as we made the final approach, it would be thundering hail down on us. Rather than attempt to climb a chimney in a storm, we retreated back to Garibaldi Lake to eat an early dinner and shiver until the storm let up.
The final day, we loaded up all our gear, climbed 2,700ft (823m) up to Panorama Point for epic views of The Black Tusk and the Garibaldi Range before descending back to Rubble Creek Trailhead for a total distance of 13.5 miles (21.7km).
