wonderful camping spot, really appreciate the footprint size of the Helm 1, not many tents would pitch where you were able to. It;s nearly bivy only ground

Thanks for the support Dave - appreciate it. I agree, I was pushing my luck with the pitch, just squeezed on, but it was worth it for the views. The Helm 1 has been great so far 👍🏼😊

Cracking vid Craig! Did Scaffell Pike from the National Trust campsite in September so this brought back some great memories of Waswater. Look forward to seeing more of your vids, ATB Steve

Hi Craig, a similar night to the one I had on Dartmoor! The Helm I is a cracking bit of kit isnt it. Great spot to camp Wastwater is on my list to come and visit for a wild camp . Cheers

Yes my friend. The weather on Dartmoor looked very similar to that experienced here. Nothing the Helm 1 can’t cope with - it’s a sturdy little thing isn’t it 😊👍🏼. You won’t be disappointed with a visit to Wastwater - it’s breathtaking. Hope I can get time to visit Dartmoor soon. Thanks for taking the time to watch and leave a comment 😊👍🏼

Hi there, I have just bought a Helm 2 as I like more space I wonder if it'll be as good in the wind? I do like exciting weather as long as the tent performs!

Hello Lesley, thank you for the comment and for watching 😊. I’ve took the Helm 1 out in torrential rain, gale force winds, and storms this winter - so I can vouch for its performance in those conditions (I’m not affiliated with the company in any way). It’s no Hilleberg in terms of spec. as you might expect, but it’s solid. I can see the appeal of the Helm 2 for additional space, but I’ve not had the pleasure of trying one out in the same conditions. My friend has the Helm 2 and says it’s performance is also good in those conditions. I hope to test it out in future, but it would be great to hear how you get on with it - please let me know 😊👍🏼

HI. I don't know whether to choose Helm 1 or MSR Elixir 1. So I'm watching all the videos possible. I'm trying to see which of the two is more resistant to wind and cold (I live in Sweden but I will use it more in summer). It seems to me that Helm Compact 1 is lighter but I don't know if it's worth it because if Elixir 1 is more resistant to wind and rain then it is better. What is your experience? I just received an Elixir 1 that I was about to exchange for a Helm 1...but I stopped to think and watch these videos.....I hope some "expert" can answer me.

Hello Elena, Thank you for the question. I’ve never owned the MSR Elixir 1 so it’s a tricky one for me to answer in terms of a direct comparison. I have lots of winter experience with the Helm 1 this year so I can effectively comment on that if it helps. I’ve used the Helm 1 on more than 10 occasions between October-April 2023-2024 in the UK. It’s performed excellent in heavy rain, light-moderate snow, and hail stone (and never leaked). All the seams are taped thoroughly and I recommend using the footprint too. It’s also performed really well in very strong winds and storm conditions (30-50MPH gusts, with driving heavy rain for hours) with no issues at all. In those conditions, its excellent. I wouldn’t want to push it beyond 50MPH wind (but I’d say the same for other tents in this price range). Other youtubers have named it the ‘tiny tank’ - I can see why. A positive is that the inner and outer fly are pitched together on Helm 1 (I think MSR is inner pitch first, which is more problematic pitching in rain). However, MSR can be pitch inner only (on hot days), and Helm 1 cannot. I believe that the Helm 1 pack weight (1.97kg) and pack size (35cm x 17cm)/ MSR Ex 1 (2.16kg) packsize (48 x 15 cm). I would wholly recommend the helm 1 for the conditions you’ve mentioned, but can’t comment from experience on the MSR Elixir 1. I hope this helps. All the best

@@craig-outdooradventure4632 HI After the question asked here yesterday, I continued to watch videos to compare them and I saw more things that support what you wrote. Yes, what you write helps me a lot and now. I have seen in the videos how Elixir bends in the wind, in fact, and I have seen how Helm is stable in the wind. And I also saw that the package size of the tent to bring with Helm 1 is half. I thank you.
