Wild Camping in the Woods - British Army Basha / Tarp and Bivvy Bag

My first wild camp of 2022, It had been so long since the last camp i was itching to get out. So when the chance to camp in a brand new spot with Deano, TJ and Marcus came up, I was there!!
It was an amazing camp, lots of laughs, ales and some slightly burnt sausages : )

Some cool set ups there Jay, I've got an army basha but hardly use it and never set it up like you did, I might have to dust it off and give it go in that that configuration 👍 Enjoyed this, nice to see like minded people out for the night... you needed more firewood though 🤣🤣 There's never enough 👍😉😁 Lee

Nice. Used my MTP basha weekend just gone, on Dartmoor, for international bivvy night. Woke up covered in frost, but still great bits of kit! Can wait for warmer weather. All the best👍🏾🇬🇧

I’ve had a load of different basha’s and tarps ever since I was in army cadets, first was the good old 58 pattern poncho, but currently I’ve got both the DPM and MTP basha’s, but DPM is my fav : ) Thanks for watching buddy, All the best, Jay

Do any of you tenters realise that "Basha" is a urdu word, a Pakistani /North Indian language & it means house or home! A word picked up & used by the British army, so it's not just a brand name.

Yes I know it’s a word used by the British army and not an actual brand name. It’s what we always called them when I was in the cadets aswell, so it’s what I’ve always said. I think it’s actual name is Shelter sheet. Thanks for the comment though, all the best buddy, Jay

There are still many British Army names for things that come from the Empires days in India. Chit, dhobi, wallah off the top of my head

what are the dimensions of this basha?

I’d say it’s roughly 2.5 metres by almost 2metres. Not the biggest tarp in the world, but perfect for 1 person. Although, if your in a hammock it’s a bit too small. So I use a DD 3x3 then Hope that helps. All the best, Jay
