I had hoped to head back there tonight, but every road was barricaded and closed off because of the snow. My camp tonight was not what I'd planned, but I'm happy to be out. Thanks a mill, I'm looking forward to seeing what happens this year too. I've plenty of plans but you know yourself 😄

Nice video Jason. That’s the kind of terrain you get around my neck of the woods. Great for hiking but sites for pitching are like gold dust. Good idea keeping a ready-bag handy. I’ve an old Scarab that’s packed, stocked, and ready for a quick flyer whenever the chance arises. Too many opportunities I let go cos I couldn’t work myself up to getting my gear together. Never happens now. Well, rarely 😂

I stumbled across your page. I have no idea why it was recommended to me...never been camping in my life, probably never likely to. I'm just a bored stay at home Mum from Surrey, England. BUT, I suddenly find myself addicted to your videos, I've watched them all in the last week. You have a certain calmness and adventurous spirit that I can only dream of having! My life is full of anxiety and imsomnia and I find your videos very soothing to watch at 3am!! My favourite bit quickly became finding out what was in the Military Ration packs😂.

😄You never know what sort of thing you're gonna find in them. I still haven't recovered after finding the pack of raisins. I'm delighted that you stumbled across my channel and thank you so much for watching all the videos. I'm in the middle of editing one at the moment. I hope the anxiety eases for you 🤞 I live with it too and if I could chose to have one or the other, anxiety or back pain then I'd rather have back pain. Small victories with it lead to bigger ones 🍀

My hubby had sciatica last year (operated on in June). It is nice when you can get back to some sort of normality. Onwards and upwards in 2025!!
@RamblingOn4 күн бұрын
I had an operation in 2016, strength training with basic calisthenics in the last year has helped me keep it under control and the low back ability dude or the knees over toes guy is great. I'm sure your husband will understand how good it feels to just feel useful again after being in pain like that. I hope you both have a great 2025 🙌 www.youtube.com/@lowbackability and www.youtube.com/@TheKneesovertoesguy

@RamblingOn, thank you for posting those links. My husband is heading for his 3rd spine decompression next week, this is the 2nd one in 2 years, the first was back in the 80s, mind that back, take no chances with it. Great video, continued healing to you.
@RamblingOn3 күн бұрын
I hope this one goes well for him, I had a decompression and a discectomy in 2016. The workouts are the only thing keeping me from another operation, my back flairs up when I don't do them because the muscles are weak. I wish you both all the best, take her handy 👍

Have to say, Jason, I'm surprised you don't use a Kelly Kettle. It would have been ideal for your wee bimble and brew break. You'd have been already carrying your water to make your brew, so wouldn't have had to go back to the stream to get any, and you'd have an abundance of fuel from all the deadfall in the wood.
@RamblingOn4 күн бұрын
I've thought about getting one but I've so many stoves, I don't think I would get enough use out of it. I'd like to see one in action though so maybe someday if I can find one second hand
@JTRavers693 күн бұрын
I have a Kelly Kettle and I find it brilliant but its definitely not something I'd take back packing. I mainly use it for fishing or if I'm not going to camp too far from the van. Just a bit bulky and it's a bit heavy. But that said, there is something really nice about using it. You do have to keep an eye on it and make sure you have plenty of fuel to keep it going. I have taken the hobo stove and left the kettle behind on occasion but it still meant carrying a pot and pan. I find the trangia is just so much easier.
@scotbotvideos3 күн бұрын
@@JTRavers69 Yeah, that was the reason I never got one. However, for wee short hikes such as the one in the video, the trekker version might make for a decent bit of kit; would just need to find a suitable bag to put it in.

I'm doing a lot of wild camping in weird places :)) I love being completely alone, no people passing by. I could do it at the edge of my property (I live in the mountains), but it seems fake. So I'm out there in deep bushes with bears. Just encounter a bear last week in a place where I usually go fishing, in a time when bears should be sleeping.
@RamblingOn3 күн бұрын
Fair play, I'm not sure how brave I would be if I knew there were bears knocking about even if they are supposed to be snoozing 😄

Hi how's it going... I got mine on Ebay, I don't think that guy is selling them anymore but let me try find a link... These seem to be the newer menus, slightly different but the same thing if you know what I mean.. I think I paid €150 ish for just 12 meals this is for 24 but check it out yourself and be sure you're happy before making a purchase. I have no connection to the seller or anything, I just had a quick search on ebay. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/146329638306?

Hey there, im sorry if this is off topic from the video, but i kind of just wanted to get your opinion and/or recommendations on something... I am about to order myself a new gopro (unless you have a better idea) to start filming a little bit on my hikes.. and i was just wondering what you would suggest starting off with? Like would i need extra batteries, and any other items (like what kind of tripod or anything else... I am a complete noob when it comes to all of the video and photography gear) Thanks a bunch@ Alex
@RamblingOn42 минут бұрын
The gopros are great little cameras and you'll surely find some good deals on them. I use a DJI Osmo Action 4 and I bought the adventure bundle that comes with three batteries. That's a strong point for the Osmo, the batteries are much better than the gopros. They last longer and perform way better in low temperatures. The gopro's onboard audio is definitely better, a simple foam windshield will do a great job. I don't think you can go wrong with either a Gorpro or an Osmo Action. If I were you I'd try find a good deal on a second hand one. You could be lucky enough to find one bundled with a tripod. K&F do good tripods and they're very reasonable, Joby are good too but it just depends on how you're going to film. You might not need a big tripod. It's a tough one but I'd say keep your setup as simple and compact as you can for as long as you can

@RamblingOn Ah yes I was thinking that . Yes I'm lucky alright where I'm located, the Knockmealdowns are a nice range aswell. Ah deadly, yeah I know it's hard finding time to get out sometimes. Photography is cool, I know some people don't do it but I like editing the photos. You just reminded me, I need to get to the knockmealdowns. I was told there's nowhere to camp there but I reckon I can suss out a few spots. Hopefully you'll be able to find time to head out with your camera 🤞

@RamblingOn Plenty of spots to camp there absolutely, you of all people will find a good spot Jason. Hopefully you will head there and make a video. It's a good hike Knockmealdowns to the Sugarloaf. Did a hike a camp a number of years ago , a few days of it , went from the Knockmealdowns to the Comeraghs, some lovely camping spots along the way .

Dear friend, I would not recommend sleeping in such a broken forest. A few years ago a friend died because a tree fell on him while he was sleeping in his tent at night. There is always a risk that a tree will fall right in your direction just because a slightly stronger breeze comes along.Please take care of yourself Friend!
@RamblingOn4 күн бұрын
I am so sorry to hear about your friend. I always check for dead standing trees or ''widow makers''. I'd never go near a woodland if there was high winds forecast but you just never know. Thanks for your advice, its something I always have in mind too

Am sorry to hear about your friend . But how come it was never on the news or newspaper a man died in his tent by a branch or tree fall .. very strange !!!

@ Why so skeptical right away? This happened here in Germany, and there are occasional reports about it. It's particularly bad when it involves youth hostels, where several children camp in the woods and such incidents occur.
