This was NOT filmed in a storm or in conditions that would warrant a weather warning. Typical British weather! It was wet and windy, and the ground wasn't suitable for pitching a tent. It was fine for hiking but not camping. Embracing the elements isn't for everyone, I understand that. I always encourage others to take responsibility for their own personal safety based on their experience and competence. As a qualified Walk Leader with military experience and Steph being an Ultra Marathon/long-distance hiker, we know our limits. At NO point were we at risk, compared to any other hike we have previously done.
I've only added this short paragraph here because some people have misconstrued the situation. This was NOT a TSUNAMI situation. Yes, wind and rain are contributing factors that present additional hazards however at NO point was this a life-threatening situation, not sure how some people have come to that conclusion, probably because they didn't watch the whole thing and made an option based on the first 30 seconds. No need for drama, Llama!
Steph and I ventured up to the Peak District in early March 2024. The weather was foul but not in a weather warning zone, so we thought we'd see what the land is like up on Hathersage Moor. The ground was totally saturated and not suitable for pitching tents. Poor visibility with strong gusts of wind, however, not cold. This was our plan B after deciding against a camp up on Kinder Scout.
When we returned to the car, we booked into a local ale house called the Maynard in Grindleford. Got an excellent deal on www.booking.com for a twin room including breakfast. It's not something we'd normally do but playing it safe and following our gut was the best choice. The following day we did a day hike up to Kinder Scout from Edale.
A good Mirco adventure despite the last-minute changes.
