WILD CAMPING ON LEITH HILL

Күн бұрын

In the first of a new series of wild camps I plan to do, I was joined by an old friend by the name of Alex (he was in a few of my older videos), for a short walk up to the highest point in Surrey, Leith Hill.
It is also the second highest point in South East England (if you climb to the top of Leith Tower however, you are at THE HIGHEST point in South East England. But it was closed for winter!) and we decided to wild camp overnight on the hilltop.
It was VERY windy! But we had a great time! I used my OEX Foxx 1 man tent and I leant Alex my Jack Wolfskin Gossamer 1 man tent.
This was my FINAL wild camp of 2017, so excuse the pun, but I ended the year on a high!

Great to see some wild camping down in the Surrey area- we are almost scared to do this 'Down South', because most of the land is owned by so few down and there does not seem to be many places to do this. The people who do the wild camps up the country don't seem to have to worry so much and though I could be wrong, It seems that most of the wild camp videos I have seen are from 'Up North' (meant in the best possible taste) I might be brave next winter and see if I can do a 'winter' wild camp down here and post it- I know it won't match The Lake District / Scotland etc, but It's about time someone gave it a go.

Thanks for sharing Tom and I'll see you on your next one. Atb Sconja 👍

Tom, you ought to check in with Paul foxy51 and the camp bazza guys, then find out where they're doing a camp out and do a walk through meet and greet. that would be cool and if you do, have them add links to you and you each of them. Massive growth right there! Some of their meet ups hold over 100 guys! Many of them have great videos. Something to consider.
@TOM_OUTDOORS
@TOM_OUTDOORS 6 жыл бұрын
PHARRAOH cheers for the advice mate. They're more into bushcraft and prepping I think. Not too much walking. It's not a direction that I really want my channel to go in. But I understand where you're coming from. Cheers.
@PHARRAOH
@PHARRAOH 6 жыл бұрын
What I mean, is they plan to camp your area as well as many others and Scotland, Just walk through, spend a night, exchange links and move on, promote eachother and everyone grows. I do this all the time.
@TOM_OUTDOORS
@TOM_OUTDOORS 6 жыл бұрын
PHARRAOH I think I've got a slightly different motive for my channel then. Whilst the subscribers and views etc are nice, I'm more interested in just documenting where I go for myself to remember. And exploring all the places I have planned to see. If the channel grows it grows. If it doesn't but I get to keep my integrity and do what I want to do then that's great.

i can't remember the name of the car park but it was a free one in the woods at the bottom of the hill. we didn't do an actual circular walk on this one, we just followed the OS map from the car park and made our way up the hill to the summit. it didnt take us long even with camping gear, maybe 30 mins tops. it was a long time ago so i can't remember.

I've never tested this but if you read the National Trust byelaws the fine is £20 for infringing them and then an additional £2 for each additional day you're in breach. Not bad value I reckon, unless there's court costs etc. The byelaws made by the National Trust for Places of Historic Interest or Natural Beauty in pursuance of the powers vested in the National Trust by the National Trust Acts with respect to land held for the benefit of the Nation clearly state that no erections of any kind are permitted, this includes but not limited to tents, booths, windbreaks, poles, clothes-lines, buildings, sheds, posts, fences, and railings. To sum it up... basically you're only permitted to walk but only walk in certain places at certain times and be quiet about it. If you want to make a racket on National Trust land then you need to join a fox hunt or 'trail hunt'. No erections guys, be safe.
