Good to see you both out Roger. Yeah, a reasonable weather window - it's been wet eh? But here no wind and no rain, which is ideal for chilling and admiring the views. I imagine you were both very happy at the jaunt out. I'm heading that way Sunday myself. Good going. All the best. Mark

Yeah, we needed that. As I said in the video life has been a little complex lately. I think you could see how relaxed we were by the morning, nature doing it's job!. Thanks for watching, ATB, Roger

Nice one Roger. I have to say I'm rather envious watching you camp in decent weather, as each time I've been free lately, the weather has been dreadful and I've stayed home. I visited Llanthony Priory a few years ago and was very taken with the area. ATB, Chris

Thanks Chris. There were just two days of decent weather between stormy periods. That's the advantage of being retired - ability to pick our days. Llanthony has quite a history and is linked to Gloucester where there is a Llanthony Secunda.

You should. It's called Garn Wen. If you go in May when the hawthorns are in flower there are dozens of them as you walk up to the ridge. Thanks for watching, Roger

We've had many different forms of wildlife visit our campsites, but horses aren't one you see where we are lol. I'm glad "with a bit of encouragement" they wandered off and let you get back to your camping safely lol

There are a few places in UK where we have horses roaming the moors and hills. They're not wild, just pastured on the moors/hills so they are pretty friendly. They don't usually come that close though. Thanks for watching, really appreciated. All the best, Roger

@@thewanderingforester That sounds kinda relaxing, being able to watch the horses in the field while you're out.

Cheers Darren. Do like the Black Mountains. Guess who bought a RAB Electron Pro today? Been thinking about it for a while, found it 15% off from Go Outdoors online.

@@thewanderingforester well impressed with mine. Was outside in freezing wind for hours and didn’t feel a thing! An absolute necessity for winter! Just means you can stay out for longer instead of being cooped up in the tent for 14 hours!

Good to see you both out enjoying the great outdoors. Impressed with the tent. Could you please tell me where you obtained it? I'm looking to replace my excellent but heavy Hilleberg Nallo 2. Brian
@thewanderingforester Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. The tent is a Durston X-Mid 2P Solid from Durstongear in Canada. It can only be bought via their USA distributor Kaviso. (Durston's website links to Kaviso) So there is VAT and import/delivery to pay on top. There are lots of reviews on KZbin.

Good hike and camp looked at thise durston tents have you any recomendations on light set up as i struggle to carry much with health etc but want to be taking it up as hobby in retirement
@thewanderingforester Жыл бұрын
Not sure I'd recommend higher priced gear to someone just starting - there is always the chance that wild camping isn't for you after all. There are quite a few KZbin channels looking at the budget end gear - the 3FUL Lanshan 2 tent for example. I'd recommend buying the best inflatable sleeping mat you can - with a R value of 4.5 ish for spring/autumn, then a decent down sleeping bag with a comfort rating about 5 degrees below what you think you'll camp in. It doesn't need to be a "name" brand. Many people rate the Osprey rucsacs - the Exos is very popular., but make sure it fits you properly. All of that should be able to be sold on easily as you upgrade leater. As for the rest - pots/ stoves etc, get on those KZbin channels. The main way to keep weight down is to only take what you need.

No, not us. We've not been north of the border for some years now, though last time we did we climbed White Comb via the Gey Mare's Tail
