As a Canadian, it's crazy to me that simply an ambulance ride can break your bank account in the US
@patrickgomes2213 Жыл бұрын
This is why I try not to use my insurance in America, even though my insurance company tells me it's a good insurance policy. I don't go to the doctor, or go to the hospital. Because the American healthcare system is neither healthy, nor caring, nor a system. And I think I'd rather die than go into a mountain of debt. And you know what the worst part is? Americans aren't up in arms demanding the a universal healthcare system. We will never get it. Oh, well. Life is short.

@sydneysomer9958 What? That's not true. A job doesn't mean you have insurance, and if you do get it, a lot of wages don't cut it, especially if you have a family to cover. Medicare does not cover everything. Full stop. All of that aside, insurance doesn't cover everything and that leaves millions of Americans bankrupt or drowning in medical debt, and worse of all, people not getting care they need because they can't afford it or don't want to leave their family with debt. Over 45,000 Americans die a year from not having insurance, leaving them unable to get treatment.
@Katrina-qs2rl6 ай бұрын
In the US, most working people have health insurance through their employer; the premiums paid by employers are tax deductible, creating an incentive that other countries don't have for employers to provide health insurance. Given this structure, US insurers cover vastly more services than socialized medicine like in UK and Canada. That's one reason why so many Canadians cross the border to seek medical care in the US.

My ambulance and ER were covered by insurance. But they tried billing me for the doctor and the nurses in the ER. An extra $5k, and they wouldn’t submit it to my insurance because they knew it would get swatted down as bogus. Love your stuff Mike!! Try to catch it most days. The last guy struck me. Been through it with my son. Seen pretty much all the things you might expect, sent to rehab, bailed him out, and later refused to bail him, kicked him out of the house (several times including in the middle of the night and it was raining), brought him home (including wife and kids), they moved out on their own. Had to drag his body out of his bathroom to perform CPR until paramedics arrived. Believe it or not the above is the short list, doesn’t really represent a life time of drug addiction which began around the age of 16, he died when he was 39. I have spent hundreds of hours trying to understand the addiction process. Eventually I learned enough to be able to talk to my son and other young addicts as well. I brought him home when he was in his late 30’s, not really expecting him to get clean, but knowing that life expectancy at this stage probably wasn’t long. If you think it was tough, well I can’t really tell you how hard it was. I would have to write a book. The marriage (1978 to now - 44 yrs and counting) survived, but barely, and time will tell if it lasts. I knew that insisting on bringing him home and refusing to kick him out again would be difficult, especially for my wife. I also knew that the drugs were likely to cause his death. So, wait for the call - come identify his body, or put up with his behavior- and at least be able to be around him. There was a choice to make but there were no longer any good direction to take. None of the answers was a good answer. All that said, I think that when the last guy said he was clean 5 days he wasn’t bragging about it, he was explaining that he was going through withdrawals and that was his explanation for his behavior, and he went on to say he really needed in-patient treatment. It’s just an opinion, you may be right, but after talking with quite a few addicts my impression is that you often have to decode what they are saying. A normal interpretation of the words they say and the body language they are using is often incorrect. It took me a long time to understand what they really meant. I would hear what was said, but after deconstructing what they were trying to express, I often times discovered that my initial interpretation was out in left field, maybe not even in the same ballpark. Sorry I wrote such a long comment. Hope this could help someone.

@johnakajon3563 Жыл бұрын
@@Kthb80 Thank you for your reply, I really do want to help anyone that is wrapped up in this disastrous problem, you say that addiction all but ruined your life. At one point I had to tell my son I would no longer help him in any way, I would not give him money, fill up his gas tank, by food, give him a ride or even talk to him on the phone until he could be honest with me and was ready to get clean. It took two years before he called By that time he had at least two warrants for his arrest, in different counties, owed thousands of dollars to courts, not to mention hospital emergency rooms, and it seemed like it would be impossible for him to ever get a driver’s license again. That’s a pretty deep hole. It took several years but a lot of those problems were worked out in the last years of his life. There can be light at the end of the tunnel, but it really is up to the individual to make that decision and be willing to do what is necessary to get clean and stay that way. I make no claim to have been an angel. I made lots of mistakes in my life and I’m sure that some of that influenced my son. I certainly wish I could go back in, there are some things that I would like to do differently. I wish that I could give you the magic answer. Just do this thing or change that stuff. But I know better, and you do too. But I can say this to you, life is good, it can be anyway. You have a child, try to remember what it’s like as a child looking up to your parents. That little one practically worships you. Enjoy every second of that time that you can get. Pour some of your life into theirs. Hopefully you still have some family, I hope some of those relationships are intact, or can be repaired. You need to be able to have anchors in your life for times when you’re not strong enough on your own. I spent a lot of time getting to know some of my son’s friends. I found most of them hadn’t had anyone recognize the value in them for a long time, a few maybe never. Yet every single one of them had talents, and I’m sure you do too. But as you obviously know and don’t need me to tell you, it’s not gonna be a bowl of cherries. But neither is using. Almost all of the young people that I knew that were addicted were extraordinarily unhappy people. Whatever they were addicted to May have been a lot of fun at one time, but it sure didn’t seem like it was making them happy anymore. They were always sick, sore, in pain and if they weren’t complaining about any of those things, they got kicked out of an apartment, the cops we’re trying to get them, someone stole their money or whatever, their life just seemed to be one long litany of pain, suffering or oppression. It seemed like they would turn to their addictions for relief, but that’s what was the root of the problem in the first place and now it seemed like if it provided any relief, it was only fleeting. Having lived through this, and knowing some others who did as well, I have to try and tell you that the disaster that you feel in your life is not confined to just you. The wreckage probably spread far and wide. Family, loved ones and friends probably suffered too. You are responsible for a child. Totally, completely innocent and has no control over what happens to them when they are young. I would have jumped in front of a train to save my son. If you can’t hold on and keep your life together the wreckage that will be caused will impact the next generation in your family. Only you, no one else can do this, keep the train wreck from running your children over. They’re worth it. Spend some time with them, they pay you back. It won’t be cash, but it really is much more valuable.

What state was the ambulance bill from? I worked in EMS for 34 years and ambulance rides were ALWAYS billed to insurance. In CA, once a patient gives you their insurance information, you can't go after them until the insurance officially denies the claim. Also, it should be common practice, after receiving said rides, to DEMAND an itemized bill, because a 1/2 mile ride can generate a $2000 bill easily and SHOULD BE disputed. They're allowing the same with ER bills, because it was discovered that Bandaids rated a $400 charge.

It's sad how mental health is treated in this country
@jedidaforce2595 Жыл бұрын
As a therapist who used to work at a run of the mill clinic, I agree with you a little, but this guy’s complaints are unrealistic. Unless he goes to inpatient detox, there’s no reason for him to be at an inpatient mental health facility. Those are meant for people who are a danger to themselves and others, and for people with severe mental illnesses. That’s not him. He was able to go through a court procedure on his own behalf perfectly coherent, minus the damage to his brain from the drugs, and whatever mental health symptoms he may have, so there’s no point in keeping him at a hospital. He just needs to follow through with the services the court ordered him to do, and follow whatever outpatient treatment plan he gets. There are some crappy treatment centers, and it sucks, but the problem comes from both sides. There’s a lot of addicts and probationers who are court ordered to go to to these clinics, or OD and get referred there, and they’ll go to a few appointments and then stop going. Or you’ll have people like this guy who expect the doctor to give them a certain medication, or expect a service to given to them right away or their way, and if they don’t get it, they get pissed and stop going. Instead of the counselors being able to help people, they’re stuck playing pretend and rarely get to see their work pay off and it burns them out. It’s like running a race and having to start over again and again after only two steps. Sooner or later you get frustrated. At the end of the day though, when you’re an adult, if you wanna change your life around, even if you’re starting at the bottom, you have to find a way to make whatever options you have available, work for you.

The case at 10:30, Simpson is wrong here. The police can only enter a residence, without a warrant, under a few exceptions. One of those is the "hot pursuit" exception; the precipitating incident was 10 hours prior therefore the "hot pursuit" exception would not apply. There is quite a bit of Civil Rights case law on this very subject and the 4th Amendment protections for the domicile and the curtilage of that domicile.

There’s a lack of opportunity to be safe, to be free, to be fed. A lot of them never really had a chance, but maybe they do have a chance, you have to fight so hard, if you’re dealt a bad hand from the beginning. Not everyone has it in them, and not everyone that does, will ever be able to make a difference, because they don’t have the tools, the opportunity, the circumstances, but you know that.

The whole witch and warlock thing sounds very familiar. My mom used to say things like that….she is schizophrenic.

I think Mr Mohney is stuck on contesting & so when he received information from the court prior to hearing, he likely round - filed it.

These people think that if they have a mental illness they can just run around breaking the law and they never have to be responsible for their actions. Smh 🤦♂️

I was just thinking how much her voice sounds like Joan Cusack as Debbie in Addams Family Values, and then she started talking about witches and warlocks.

I don't know how you can mistake that 1 judge for anyone else because every time I see him my head just starts chanting "Jerry! Jerry!" 😅

Thurston county district court is near Olympia which is the capital of WA state. It is very close to Lacey and Lakewood many many drug problems and large military bases full of young enlisted who get into many problems

The judge quashing the warrant is from Thurston County district Court in Washington State. I think this is Paul Wohl the district Court commissioner.

My nephew/son is going through this as well. He's od d many times! Actually been dead. I got a call (he lives in another state) a while back that his heart liver and kidneys are so damaged they give him two months to live. So I sit and wait on "the phone call" I've done as much as I can. Btw his drug of choice is heroin but he will pretty much get high on anything and everything. I miss him but we lost him 5 years ago. He wants nothing to do with us. So I was crying through the last part
@WonderWhatHappened Жыл бұрын
Not trying to be mean but your nephew is your son? Anyway, I had a friend who died from liver damage due to drugs and alcohol. He knew he was killing himself but just couldn't stop. He was the nicest guy and hate to have him go through that.

I feel so sorry for that last guy. Getting hooked on drugs is easy; getting off is extremely difficult. I thought I heard him say something about adderall being meth? I think he needs to be in a facility that can not only help him, but educate him. He needs a counsel who can be patient with him. I wish him well.

Yeah it's just methamphetamine versus amphetamine. Big difference in some ways but not a big difference in others. Definitely feel for the guy
@Michael-pt8cr Жыл бұрын
One fair point the meth guy made ...........homeless people often have nowhere to stay other than shelters filled with drug use. It makes it more difficult to get clean when you're in that environment. There needs to be more shelters that take a hard stance against using.

'Crazy' isn't exactly a static mindset. Sometimes, it's dependent on specific locations or situations. Crazy also isn't stupid. You can absolutely understand the law and still be mentally ill. When the devil starts issuing warrants, you might be a little unstable. I do think it's interesting that she understands that she is mentally ill and that that mental illness benefits her in all these ways, but she doesn't understand that the warlock-er didn't issue the warrant.

It sounds like that attorney needs to go back to law school. How neglect did he pass? And he'd better check that attitude with Judd Simpson.

The No Surprise Billing Act prevents your insurance for charging for ER/Ambulance/life flight/ life saving measures as well as out of network anesthesiology if the facility and surgeon are in network. I’ve heard some insurance makes you ask, but the one I work for v😅volunteers that information if it applies

Huge difference between being sober and being “dried out” as my old counselor called it. I have over 13 years of sobriety but I still remember those days of wanting a pat on the back for doing something I was forced into 😂

I’ve been clean for 10 years, it’s hard to watch these sometimes knowing I was that sick, unable to tell the truth or take responsibility to save my life. Exactly like you said, expecting a pat on the back for following through on basic things.

Re: the final clip: I can look out my window and see meth heads (zombies) just about any time of day. They try to break in to our building on the regular and they steal everything that’s not bolted to the ground. They are next to impossible to reason with when they are so deep in it, their brains are rotten, and they live with their delusions of grandeur. It is heartbreaking to see and so utterly frustrating because there’s nothing that can be done. Meth is the real epidemic these days. That being said, this judge is incredible. His empathy is commendable and his approach is above and beyond.

Hey, this is in my state of WA! cool to see. This is south of Seattle about 80 miles, close to the state Capital of Olympia. I have family that lives down in that area. It's a nice area to live. There is an offroad park down there that's an entire mountain for dirt bikes and quads to tear-up called Capital Forest. If you like trail riding, that's the coolest place to ride.
