I am not an American and that may the reason I usually saw Native-american actors in very stereotypical roles of “bad or friendly Indians”. I only started seeing some good native actors in the past 20 years in much better roles but still not as the main lead.

@@MrMicronano don't mind them. Watched enough movies in the world, an so all the performances possible from top actors/actresses. Jesse has his unique style, but i don't like it. He looks like he isn't acting. It seems like that's just the way he is in his natural habitat and state. Just plain and average. And im glad he isn't a star in this movie.

@@claunko “He looks like he isn’t acting” is the highest compliment you can give and what most actors aspire to. It feels kind of callow when someone cares about range more than verisimilitude. The fact is, being a version of yourself with complete and utter believable is incredibly difficult. Also, as a director, I’d much rather cast someone who was organically closer to the role than someone who was simply versatile.

Personally I would love to see a film set in a time before Europeans came to North America. Similar to Mel Gibson's Apocalypto. Just imagine the story lines. And all done with actual Native Americans and fully accurate in terms of dress, speach, location etc. Would be a smash I'm sure.

@faceoffkang I'm sure it could be done even if it was difficult. Your suggestion sounds good aswell but, I'm sure, it would be a hard watch. I'd rather try and celebrate the vibrancy and diverse nature of the different tribes/Nations across the North American continent. The geography of the US is so vast. It ranges from the forests of the Pacific North West to the deserts of the South West. The extreme winters of the North to the mild winters of Florida. I could go on. These massively different geographies must have made for such different cultures.

Awesome film. Just saw it last night and it was incredible. Chaske played his part so well, that you really felt all he was going through, and seeing Michael Greyeyes in a role like that was Very Different. He was incredibly unnerving. I hope to see more films from Lyle Corbin Jr!!

When I see films like this, I always think back to college lecture about the Generational Psychological Damage of "conquered" peoples, there are those that overcome and lead relatively happy, successful lives but it's that damage that's still there and never really goes away.

I am extremely happy we have more Native American representation coming out. It’s extremely important. I do fear that this will be a running stereotype and I hope we begin to move away from having stereotypes as the base for character development. With that said I understand the very real reality of indigenous people in the Americas being disenfranchised within their communities. Slightly torn still going to see it though.

It's not. It's incredibly good, and far above anything else Hollywood has been doing for years now, when it comes to Native representation. Lyle Corbin Jr, who created this film, is a Native male, so it isn't stereotypical at all.

This story is based on MY families loss. This happened on the Bad River reservation in Wisconsin, based on my uncle's tragic death to make profit. This is based of a real families grief and Lyle corbine should be ashamed of himself.
