In the words of J. Jackson, lyricist and lead singer of APX... "I think this was the first time ApX recorded parodies of two totally different tunes with the same title. We came close to doing that in 2022, when we spoofed "Valerie" by Steve Winwood and "Valleri" by The Monkees. In 2013, we released "Child King," a parody of "Wild Thing" by Tone Lōc, (#2 in 1989); in 2024, we unleashed "Wild King," a parody of "Wild Thing" by The Troggs (#1 in 1966). Thematically, it's the sequel to "Nightmare Waiting." (Note: "Nightmare Waiting" is a parody of "Right Here Waiting" by Richard Marx.) Both are sung from the perspective of the prophet Daniel in the fourth chapter of the book that bears his name. "Nightmare Waiting" focused on the first part of the story, where Daniel interpreted Nebuchadnezzar's dream and warned what would happen if he didn't repent. As "Wild King" shows, the proud monarch didn't heed the man of God's counsel, and 12 months later, he literally started acting like an animal: "He was driven away from people and ate grass like the ox. His body was drenched with the dew of heaven until his hair grew like the feathers of an eagle and his nails like the claws of a bird" (Daniel 4:33). After a predicted period of seven "times" (which could be years, seasons, or months), God restored both his sanity and his kingdom. "Zoanthropy," the fancy word we use in the second chorus, is a term for the condition in which a person believes they have been changed into an animal and starts to act like one. If the title of this one reminds you of the old TV show Wild Kingdom, the feeling is Mutual ... of Omaha"
