Well done to you both for standing your ground against that Chinese woman. I feel so sorry for the Laos mechanics who are forced to work for her, but they have to earn a living for their families and I am sure that mechanic jobs are few and far between in that area. As you so eloquently put it, "They are the filling ing the cheese and scam sandwich". It was good to see Nini laugh at that amidst her anger. Scammers will eventually get caught out and then they will have no customers. You certainly won't get caught out like that again. Hope you get the problem with your rear end sorted out soon. Oops that makes it sound as if you have piles, but you know what I mean. God Bless you both and keep you safe on your travels 😀❤🙏

The scammers from China have had to go to other countries to avoid the Chinese police. In the region Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, and Myanmar are favorites to avoid the law, and its questionable if they arrived their legally since the borders are porous. But most of time its big money, this is small time but still the same mentality. And they mostly prey on their own but this woman’s a bit greedy and preying on others. Good to stand your ground, she’s in NiNi’s country.

There have been quite a few reports of Chinese criminals being rounded up in Thailand recently, both high-end gangsters and more ordinary ones. While that's great for Thailand, it probably means even more of the criminal types will be looking for soft targets in other countries.

Hi Guy's One of life's lesson's it that money is a drug for some people, the more they have the more they want. I bought a couple of similar bearings recently for one of my projects, and they were around $1 each. Quite often just repacking the bearing with new grease will fix the problem. It is hard to let the anger go when you get scamed., but living in Lao a long time has helped me with the processes. One interesting thing was all those cars out the front had Chinese plates, so that is who is getting scamed mostly.

Your correct....if noise goes away when your foot is off the pedal (no load( then good chance is a universal joint in the drive shaft. It's a bit complicated in this circumstance. NOTE: before you leave home & trusted mechanic. Get a full check up. Compression test. Charge system test. All brakes / tyres/brakes / brake fluid/ cooling system / air-conditioning. Then your good to go a great distance with few if any issues. Note - battery life these days is about 2 years. Don't push your luck on that !!$$. All the best mate🇦🇺😎🇦🇺

Sad that you been scammed. The lady should have quoted a) firstly, for only the investigative job price, and then b) once the fault/s is/are identified, the repair cost (per side or per pair etc). It is fair that they need to charge for the time spent on the investigation and dismantling/rebuilding the car. The lady should not blindly quote you WITHOUT knowing how many bearings need changing, and then CHANGING the price when she realised (or pretended) the job was bigger. It is understandable that she needs to charge for the investigative task, as it is not just a simply look/see assessment, but involved dismantling time. Changing price midway through the job is not right; she needs to improve her quoting process. If she wants to charge a premium price due to her garage isolated location that’s fine - but her quoting process needs to be upfront, clear and fair. WE enjoy your video very much. Keep it up.

From what you described with the rear sounds like it may be the driveshaft U joints going bad.If it is it'd be best to do them all in that section of driveline. Did the noise in the front go away? When a wheel bearing goes bad it is best to just do them both. I actually have to do the carrier bearings in the front of my vehicle one day it's nice out.The way they design them anymore I have to pull the whole front differential out of it too get to the bolts that holds the cover on to even drain the gear oil.I love my '68 Bronco,it wasn't designed with that sort of idiocy. There's a good many mechanic scammers here in the US and is one reason I try and do all my own work if I have the time. There is a certification that "professional"mechanics must have to work on vehicles here,it's called an ASE Certification. It was started (quote from ASE) " created in 1972 in response to consumers needing to distinguish between potentially incompetent and competent automotive technicians"...... I think the majority of them only get their certs because they paid for the class...there's a lot of them I wouldn't even let change the air in a wheelbarrow tire. Most all of them are just plug and play mechanics, they have no diagnostic skills and only knows what the computer tells them.I just call them part swappers,as that's about all they do till the problem is fixed. I come from a long line of mechanics,my grand father was one of GM's first 25 Master Mechanics and did some R&D for them out of his own garage, his brothers all worked on cars,my father was a M48 tank mechanic in the Army from '57 to late 60's and later a heavy equipment mechanic on a large road construction company for another 40 yrs,and I been wrenching on anything with an engine and/or nuts and bolts tires or tracks since I was 7-8 (about 43yrs). The chinese,I'm so sick of their garbage here in the US breaking so much that I'll never deal with them let alone trust them.

Todd and Neenee, so terrible to hear this, even knowing it does happen to others sometimes, though it still makes it a bad thing when someone is taking advantage of anyone else. If it were truly a miscommunication, then it's understandable, but when it isn't because of that, it just makes it worse to have happen-especially when it's yourself-and you are both familiar with things like that and more experienced what to look for than those less 'aware,' and it still happened. Does prove "it can happen to anyone" just makes it a shame there are 'scammers' everywhere and they look like everyday people. Good news on getting the 4-wheel drive shift fixed at least, and it cost only 2.5mil, ouch! Another good news/honorable thing you did (prior video) to let the ladies browse-take some useful outfits/clothes for themselves due to you/Neenee's kind, caring, sharing hearts that won't be changed due to negative prior event(s). Stay Healthy, Happy, and Safe to you both.

Guess what, after they changed the oil, they said $150(just an oil change) and I paid for it and didn’t argue back because it wasn’t worth it (just don’t go back to his shop). This tin shack in northern Laos 30km from the Chinese border definitely doesn't have a problem with access to parts or the cheap labour. In comparison a professional workshop in Vientiane with high real-estate shop rental and city wages would have higher overheads than that shed. It's a blatant ripoff scam.. and to compare Aussie city vs remote country prices in parts and transport as it would work in Australia.. you can't compare those two.

I’ve been saying this for years. We let them come into Laos, and the government keep pocketing the money from them. This was gonna bite them in the arse. Cant really blame the Chinese. Blame the corruption in Laos government .

I'm sorry you both had to go through that, I was really pissed just watching it. I hope you're both doing well other than this bad experience.

Wasn’t there any people of authority in the village? I would have told that woman that I will file a complaint with authorities in the next town. Usually they want to avoid investigations and they would rather back down than to be in the sights of local law enforcement.

Good advice. Chinese in Lao country are very greedy. Perhaps this woman had no official registration and it would have been good to tell her you have relations on high level in Luang Phabang or Vientiane.

@@ayangdidi5524, sometimes a simple threat will make her step back if only for awhile. She may be having an illegal business or improper paperwork to be there and could possibly be sent back to China. As long as no one stands up to her, she’ll continue her shady business practices.
