Yes it’s the “It’s not a Derby” Derby The animosity was built up from a game in 1962 which Dundee won and Saints lost resulting in Saints being demoted. Dundee would have still won the league it it had been a draw and Saints would have stayed up

As a Villa fan who was at the game at Villa Park against Hibs. The Hibs fans were incredible and were a credit to Scottish football. I went to my first Scottish match at the weekend, Raith Rovers v Queens Park. Great experience, especially the the fans who are fanatical about their clubs. You realise Scottish football is not all about Rangers and Celtic.

For years, when both Dundee clubs lorded it over St Johnstone, fans of both clubs would refer to it as a Tayside Derby on a regular basis. They would admit that the Dundee Derby is their biggest, and no Saints fan would deny that. But it was definitely classed as a derby. In recent years, Saints started to lord it over both Dundee sides. We started winning trophies, became established in the top league, whilst they yo-yo about the place, and now they are keen to deny it is a derby 🤣😂 Tells you everything you need to know. Great video, keep up the good work showing off our game at all levels. Some of the comments above show there is still a long way to go to make people realise that you don’t need 50,000 people to be a passionate support base.

If you’re a proper Dundonian it’s largely Dundee. United pick up a lot of support from surrounding places, often due to their success in the 80s.

Dundee United have always been a superior club in Scotland up until only recently. With Dundee and St Johnstone competing at a very similar level against each other, I believe this meant they bonded a much stronger rivalry over the years.
