Solo Camping in Freezing Temperatures in the Woods

A beautiful and relaxing lil solo tent camp on a hill in the woods, with temperatures dropping just below freezing and a sparkly frost in the morning 😍
I tried out my new lightweight titanium pan, new lantern (to replace the previous one which set itself on fire) and had a go with a trail cam for the first time in the woods :D

Nice creative little video. I love these Oaktrees. And the trailcam is very good idea. My Cousine Daniela is setting up 4 of them every week in northern Germany. She caught so many differant animals. Wolfes and even an Otter. You should keep doing that. It is very interesting to see the folks living in the woods all there live, while we are as guests there. No rain, no storm? Glad you got back out after the last one. Tip for the trail cam, break some twigs up and lay them on the ground as arrows pointing to where you set the cam up. A bit of red ribbon or similar in tree of the cam will help you find it too.

Showing my age here, I remember using those lanterns during the power cuts in 1973, we each got one to take to bed after an evening of dad telling us scary ghost stories in the flickering light. Funny how something so random triggers old memories. Great vids and they keep getting better, thanks.

Hopefully you don't mind answering a question. When I was in the military, and deployed to Norway, someone in our tent used one of those Zippo hand warmers. Shortly after we closed up the tent and turned the lights out, everything reeked of lighter fluid. Did you have any similar issues? Thanks, and I love your videos!

They are ultra light, less bulky, lasts all night long and some can even charge the cell phone. 2. Did you get my info on lanterns? I wrote to you on your video when your other lantern pooped out on you. I might not have pushed "Comment" and therefore, lost it. My main comments were regarding a great brand of lantern--"Feuerhand." They have been in business since the late 1800's. One of the models I have is a model 176 Super Baby. It would be GREAT for backpacking, as it is only about 7" tall. It is a vintage model, but there are a lot to choose from on ebay. The other thing is, don't over-fill your lantern; it is far more likely to leak. Thanks for another great adventure! Happy Easter to you and yours, Claire! ❤

Lovely video, Claire. But why carrying this heavy steel lantern with you? For additional warmth in freezing nights outdoors I simply heat water in a bottle to comfortable 50°C and put it in my sleeping bag. From my experience these heat packs are good for spotted heat in gloves or shoes but don't have the capacity to keep the whole body warm. The warm water bottle may last only for 3-4 hours but can give off more heat.

Hi Claire, are those bunny suits compulsory in frosty weather? I'm 65 and I would feel a prat jumping about in one😂wouldn't want to take it off if I needed toilet early hours. I've just bought lantern same size as yours it's L. E. D (adjustable brightness) and no flammable liquids. Just a thought, has anyone ever tried putting a tent in a tent to be warmer or would they be too heavy to carry? Maybe a tarp over a tent.

Found myself camping for a month , well if sleeping on just a straw mat on the ground and no shelter counts as camping, in cobra and scorpion infested jungle in Karnataka state India in the late nineties with two fugitives, a German woman and a Canadian guy, all three of us were travelling alone initially. To quell my fear of snakes in this area where rumour had it three people had died from cobra bites in three months, Tina suggested I think of pink rabbits whilst walking thru the jungle at night near our beach side camp unable to see our feet or what we were stepping on with foliage up to our faces many miles from civilisation. No phones of course. It really helped to get to sleep too, imagining a wall of pink rabbits around me at floor level somehow repelling the King Cobra and scorpions, well it worked ! and you've just reminded me of them . . ha thanks

Animal onesies are great for camping. They keep the heat in wonderfully. And when you get up in the morning for a stretch and forget you are wearing them you give the passing joggers a sasquatch signing they weren't bargaining for. Esp in rural England. Also top tip for runners: if you see a giant pink bunny on your run you have hit the wall and your blood gylcogen level has called too low for your brain to work properly. Slow down for ten mins or so whilst your system starts to convert to burning fat for energy . If you see more rabbits after that it's probably just a blogger. Slowly bring the pace back up.

Just a suggestion for you. If you set up your trail cam with a fallen log in shot, you can bait the log with jam or peanut butter to attract badgers or foxes. You should be able to get some good photos as they stop to lick the food off the log. Don't use loose food, the animals will just pick it up and run off with it. A Happy Easter to you and little George. You look very pretty in your bunny costume. The lantern gives off a nice light but I've always found them a little clunky to carry around and the smell of the oil is not for everyone. As for relocating your camera, a brightly coloured ribbon, fluorescent tag, or simple compass bearing twinned with the number of paces from your tent should help you find it easily. I look forward to seeing the footage you capture in future videos. If you feel the camera is safe enough to leave in situ for a couple of days, without being stolen, I would bait the location for a few days prior, to attract the kind of wildlife you want to photograph. I hope you get some great shots.

I have camped by game trails, and woken up to find rabbit and squirrel tracks in the show. They're curious enough to inspect your campsite. I even had a skunk visit me. He was wobbling along down the trail and smelled breakfast. I whispered to him to get his attention and made eye contact. I doubt he understood the word "go," but he backed away and continued down the trail.

I went camping with my brother yesterday near Windermere. The weather is getting better for it at least 😎. Ive started recording my trips and uploading them to my channel now but I think my next goal is getting better filming equipment and possibly a drone too..Big fan of this channel and the bunny suit too haha 😄
