Nature is for everyone and cannot be claimed, it is its very origin. I was sad to read this but happy to see that people are fighting for this, thumbs up for filming this and being part of that. We are nature. Loved the video! Lovely weekend 🪶

Hi. I think the right to roam is absolutely the most important thing. Also it reminds us how important it is to leave no trace & be especially careful with fires during the Summer months. I really hope the protest made a difference - it certainly looked very well supported.

@@jamesf8864 James i do not have a right to go on your property neither would i wish too unless our stock was out. Compromise needs to be reached and commonsense applied by everyone. Thats not happened and it needs too or this could end up with trouble on all sides. I think nobody should camp wherever they want without permission. Areas need to be discussed of whete camping may occur were all sides agree and this should if commonsense is appied by everyone. Sadly James commonsense isn't applied by many look at the politicians 4 parties Labour, Conservative, LD and Green all establishment look how few have done real jobs and come from like me blue collar background i still am. Lets hope this can be resolved by all for all.

I think this is so much more than the Right to Roam, as important as that is to me as well. Our inalienable Rights are being eroded day by day. Rights given to English people by our ancestors and clearly defined within The English Constitution. The last affirmation of The English Constitution resulted after uprisings by the people and resulted in The 1688/9 Bill of Rights that remains Law to this day. Unfortunately The State has now subverted almost all of our Rights and continues to enhance a vice like grip on us. The English rise up about every 400 years. That anniversary is fairly close. If we do not stop this process, future generations will have zero future. It is that simple. I am A Political; I despise all the Major Political Parties equally! Rise up, say no, or YOU will lose all of your Rights. Do we really want that for our children and grand children?

Our local council, Nuneaton us banning us from using any open water including the river, no swimming, no boating, no fishing. The river runs through the park, town and countryside. Not only is it the river, its the public lakes too. They're doing this under a public space protection order, which is meant to protect public spaces from persistent and ongoing issues, it's not meant to be used to deprive locals the occasional paddle.

I couldn't agree more when you said being able to spend time outdoors in the countryside is so important for both our physical and mental health. Having these rights to roam and wild camp being taken away from us is definitely a backwards step and makes no sense to me whatsoever. If anything, the right to wild camp should be extended in England not reduced. Scotland have it so right with this and England seriously need to catch up.

Great video, hope your video gets the attention that wild camping and the right to roam should have. The land should be respected by all and for all. Maybe a solution would be to introduce a wild camping licence system at a low affordable price to one and all. Funds raised could be distributed the help pay for upkeep of fences, gates, pathways etc, maybe the National Trust could administer that sort of system or possibly Forestry England. An online guide listing restricted areas such as MOD training sites and where landowners permission is required to camp or roam could be part of the answer. Just thinking out loud well on the keyboard!!

@@stephenholmes1036 from our understanding when we were at the protest itself, many of the local community support the action being taken. There were signs in windows, banners outside houses and people outside their houses supporting us as we walked past. Of course this is unlikely to be the case for everyone but I don't think you are right in saying that all the local community are against the strike action.

we've just watched this video, and whilst we agree with the principle I have to say I'm totally torn as to which way to go. I was a scout leader for nearly 30 years taking young people up in the mountains and teaching them the skills to wild camp and be self sufficient, the "leave no trace" being a huge part of the experience and teaching. The situation as it was where wild camping was technically illegal, but a blind eye was turned to it meant that it was valued greatly by the outdoors community who respected the privilege and did not take it for granted. So long as we left no trace and respected the land all was well. I for one have noticed in recent years a huge increase in what I'd call "cheap" camping rather than wild camping. People pulling up at the side of a road, throwing a tent up in a field or wood next to the road and thinking they are wild camping, and leaving an absolute mess resembling a festival site behind for someone else to clean up. There's a whole generation out there who think its someone else's job to follow them around and tidy up after them, and I suspect its the actions of the "cheap" campers who have brought this situation to a head. It might not be a popular opinion, but I'd prefer the situation to remain as it was before, the true outdoor community respected the landowners, who have to earn a living from the land, and we didn't expect them to follow us round to clean up after us. Perhaps I'm just old fashioned?
@ianroscoe2750
@ianroscoe2750 Жыл бұрын
The principles you refer to wild camping particularly 'leave no trace' still apply today for true wild campers. If there truly is a problem with fly camping on Dartmoor then perhaps the wealthy landowners and DMNPA could have worked together to ensure existing laws are used against such people. I suspect the motivation to control wild camping has little to do with the environment.

Problem is "rights" come with responsibilities. Never forget all land belongs to someone and should be respected. Simply put, people are NOT responsible and it's getting worse. The right to roam on enclosed land , especially in the national parks has been a disaster for those who make a living off the land------gates left open, frequent livestock worrying from dogs off leads, littering, idiots lighting fires at any time of year, off roading destroying ancient trackways, campers parked everywhere, human toileting! Where does it all end? A balance needs to be struck and the national parks to police wild camping so small scale back packers can still quietly enjoy the outdoors. Please please don't destroy what you've come to enjoy!

Lived in England many years and although I was never really that fond of camping in general, maybe once for just one night (love walking though ), it is depressing that the English people allowed their politicians to strike this blow to the access to nature for all. I can just tell you that in Portugal where I'm from, just the rights of way or to roam safely do not even exist as far as I know and even the level of protection of nature and of legally defined natural protected areas is just attrocious as we are sadly not really a people that has that much fondness and interest for our nature or in walking through our countryside therefore there is no such thing as rights of way through private lands and ALL land in PT is shamelessly privatised and in many cases illegaly built on, on the account of our ongoing corrupt politicians in the government and councils who do as they please ans sold most out our inherited pubic land. Therefore we have massive occupation of the soil by buildings of all sorts to the point of having currently the highest stock of urbanized land and buildings in the whole of Europe per capita. It is thus very difficult to find good long trails here without being fenced off by walls and barbed wire and ferocious dogs or people in most of the country especially towards the coastal areas. This passive and silly people of ours do not care if our land is being overbuilt on and sold in chunks to anyone willing to pay the price including many foreigners.

Up until very recently, certain parts of the Dartmoor national park (that were highlighted in purple on an OS map) were the only places you could wild camp, without the need to seek any permission. Now, it is a (civil) offence to wild camp anywhere in England and Wales. Scotland still has many parts where you can still wild camp.
